Watch me do my morning routine!!!

Lay in bed this morning and it’s all coming up
on my Ig feed. Mums with huge houses, gardens & cars. Waking at 5 am, getting dressed, taking their huge water/juice/coffee bottle flask thingies and driving in the cold and dark to the gym, working out then doing pilates in the morning. We see the step by step account, the perfect outfits, the perfect skincare routine, back home making eggs & pancake and fruit for their child/children.

Whose morning routine is like this? Am I just failing at life 😂

My morning routine today-Dd woke me at 7, I stayed in bed for ten minutes later as didn’t want to leave my warm bed, then felt guilty as Dd desperate to see what the elves had done
Came down-coffee, Dd opened advent calendar & watched tv. Made Dd Ready brek and a banana, scrolled my phone. Pulled on leggings and fleece, sorted Dds bag, did her hair, droped her at school, back home, lay on sofa-(work in evenings)

Me too. I love watching peoples routines with animals to see how they do it.

There’s a lady in America somewhere who has to round up all her tortoises every night - it’s oddly fascinating 😂

You’d be surprised! I get tonnes of videos like that on my FYP.

That “morning routine” was probably filmed over a week.

People like to slag off this sort of influencer but honestly, viewers also need to use some
judgement as well. It’s no more real than a vogue photo spread. If you can watch it and enjoy it while understanding that then great. If you can’t and find it makes you feel bad or inadequate, then stop watching.

I love these. They're so fake! Who the fuck is willingly getting up at 5.30am to tap their nails on serum bottles in front of a camera?!

Argh the tapping of the nails on everything makes me want to scream!!!!

Starlight1984 · 17/12/2025 09:27

bonquiqui · 16/12/2025 14:50

You’ve also got to remember they’ve had to set up every shot to film their so-called routine. So you see them skipping merrily along loading the kids into the car, they’ve already been out and set up the camera, pressed record and walked back out. It’s all fake and utterly ridiculous

This. And also when you see them stretching and yawning in bed with a face full of make up and perfect lighting 🙄

Pricelessadvice · 17/12/2025 06:44

My morning routine involves getting pissing wet on the yard doing the horses. Not much fun to watch I don’t think 😂

I get up at 6:45 and make coffee and take it back to bed. I nudge DP out of bed at 7:30 and he goes in the shower whilst I make teen DD some breakfast. I go in the shower at 7:45 and then at 8 DP and I take the dog out, DD sorts herself out and then walks to school. At 9 I sit down at my desk and start my day and I sometimes eat breakfast in my first meeting and sometimes just wait for lunchtime. On the weekend the time stays the same as does the dog walking but I feed DD when we get back instead of before we go out. Dog likes his routine.

You can get up at 5am, I don't give one tiny shit

😬 You do seem to care quite a lot by the way you are responding to the pp.

Everyone should just do what works for them.

Obviously I am responding to the fact I am being told I am sneery and judgemental, not what time she gets up

MusicWars · 17/12/2025 08:59

popcornandpotatoes · 17/12/2025 08:52

Quite the opposite in fact. I was saying that these morning routine influencers are presenting that this is the best way to stay on top of life and keep fit, it is literally what they are 'influencing'. I don't need to do that and I don't find their videos aspirational or make me feel 'influenced' to take on such a routine.

Yes I imagine people with lots of kids do need more time in the morning. I had one kid, by choice, because, back to my original point, I would fucking hate to get up at 5am everyday.

I am simply talking about my preferences and choices. Absolutely embarrassing yourself by getting offended over it. You can get up at 5am, I don't give one tiny shit

My morning so far. Woke at 8. I am still in bed. Sent a couple of work emails. Titting about on my phone. My first meeting is at 10, so I will definitely get dressed before that. But will undoubtedly join it from my bed as it’s cold!

MusicWars · 17/12/2025 08:55

GreatestDay · 16/12/2025 20:20

Great, but you saying you ‘somehow’ manage sounds very sneering. Other people may need to get up earlier to achieve what you do or maybe they have different circumstances to you. Maybe they don’t have any other opportunity to go to the gym or exercise at home due to having children and no childcare options, maybe they spend more time exercising than you, maybe they want more time to make their hair look nicer, maybe they have more children or children with different needs etc

Yes, I agree. It’s strange that some people seem annoyed that others get up earlier to get things done.

I get up early to exercise, then sort our animals, shower and get ready for the day, make breakfast for everyone, take youngest to college and then start work. Although I don’t put it on social media, my ‘routine’ isn’t fake. I know loads of people who do similar to me, mainly because we are morning people, we function better in the mornings and it helps our mental health. I like to be organised but I also like to have relaxed evenings so this is how I do it.

Picklejuiceleak · 17/12/2025 08:54

It’s fake. The entire thing is staged. That’s obvious.

I’ve never liked influencers. I despise the whole thing. The only one I like is a horse influencer who is completely chaotic and hilarious. But she also works a full time job. It’s when they give up their job that it goes to shit.

I highly recommend checking out Kiki Chanel on YouTube for anti influencer content. Tides are turning and people are no longer enjoying this bollocks content.

FWIW, my morning is this:

Husband wakes me at 8 with a coffee. Takes me 40 minutes of scrolling before I can even keep my eyes open. Get up at 9 and take meds. Greet daughter and dogs and sit down again while I wait for meds to kick in. Thursday- Saturday I have to turn out our horses. I do this in PJs half asleep.

10 - my daughter wants lunch (yes, lunch) so I make a full meal. Then I get dressed and do hair and makeup.

I then do housework etc.

Very aesthetic.

But after that, you then wrote ‘Somehow I still manage to exercise, work, parent and keep my house nice without doing so.’ which is definitely sneering at others. Saying ‘somehow I manage’ is saying others doing it differently and who need/want to get up earlier to fit everything in are somehow not managing as well as you, but as I said, maybe you have one kid and they have 4, maybe they have kids with SEN and you don’t, maybe they exercise more, maybe a million reasons. There is nothing wrong with your way of doing things and nothing wrong with someone else doing it different.

It doesn't sound remotely sneering

She's just pointing out that getting up at 5am isn't the only way to do this stuff, despite insta waffle about golden hours

Don't be daft

For some people, getting up early is the only way they can fit everything in. I don’t think anyone is saying getting up at 5am is the ‘only’ way to do it for everyone, just that it works for them.

She wasn’t just pointing that out, she was sneering with the ‘somehow I manage…..’ People have different lives and however they do things is ok, no need to sneer at someone because they get up early or late or anything else.

Funny how I clearly put 'for.me' and yet you still.manage to get offended by me not being an early riser.

Wake up at 5.30, severely pissed off that I have lost an hour of sleep for No Obvious Reason AGAIN.
Alarm goes off at 6.30. Roll around a bit not getting out of bed because it's cold, but if I set the heating to come on earlier it will wake me up even earlier sweating like a pig.
6.40 Drag self out of bed, put on huge shapeless old hoodie. Make lunchboxes for kids and coffee for me and DH
7.00 drink coffee and eat biscuits of various kinds
7.30 should get up but cling on to last remaining minutes in bed scrolling Mumsnet
7.41 bollocks still in bed on Mumsnet and kids are still asleep. Get up disturbingly rapidly. Give kids their clothes to put on in bed
7.50 do kids hair
8.00 get frustrated with youngest for doing thousand-yard-stare about breakfast choices again
8.05 sort out minor argument between kids
8.10 growl "ask your dad I need to LEAVE"
8.15 Leave for work too late and have to leg it all the way.

There are loads of people that do their morning and night routine with horses on SM. They get a lot of views.

The irony of posting that on social media 😂

Or maybe they actually enjoy what they do and not having to deal with people making sneery comments like yours.

I'm not sneering at them. I watch them because I like what they do. I also didn't say they didn't enjoy it. I'm sure they do, for all the reasons I mentioned. I think it's great if they can't get out much to have found a job they can do from home and it can be lucrative too. It's just an observation from the ones I watch that mental health issues and a resulting nervousness of socialising/leaving their homes seems very common amongst them, as does episodes where they're down and can't really do anything and their lives seem to fall apart a little. Some of them have even mentioned in their videos that they started social media because they couldn't face any other kind of job. These aren't mental health channels and they don't make a huge deal of it, but when you watch them long term they're mentioning the odd thing here and there. It paints a picture. Frequently one of the reasons they're going to the gym at 5am is because it's empty and they can avoid being around other people, they literally say this, I'm not making it up.

I am aware those routines are often fake and filmed over many days (there is a youtuber that did in-depth analysis of those videos, showing that often time stamps and locations do not make sense) however, I do find them oddly motivating. I have my own routine, but sometimes I need a kick in the butt, and watching those videos works for me.
