Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

I like my neighbours and I happily do favours for them (and ask for favours from them sometimes).

I don't own an iron.

I enjoy drugs on occasion.

I don't drive.

I like seeing dogs in cafes and out and about.

I support Palestinian liberation from Israeli occupation and apartheid.

I deeply value my relationships with my friends.

Gardenalia · 16/12/2025 19:31

I share my DP with his wife, she doesn’t know. Part-time relationship suits me far better than marriage.

I love my DC and my dogs but not interested in other people’s.

i get no satisfaction from volunteering, i expect to be paid (does not apply to DP, DC or dogs, just the rest of the world including friends).

Thepeopleversuswork · 16/12/2025 19:29

I can’t drive and have no desire to learn, ever

I’m not and never again will be married

I don’t change clothes to go inside or put towels on the bed before sex

I pay for private school

I have been known to use towels last seen on the bathroom floor

I let my cats walk on kitchen worktops and sometimes even on the table

FerrisWheelsandLilacs · 16/12/2025 19:07

Shower once every two to three days, wash my hands only a couple of times a day, use the same bed sheets for more than a week… and still have perfectly fine personal hygiene (and an immune system of steel).

Littlebuddh · 16/12/2025 19:05

I dont believe that every problem a woman has is the fault of menopasue or peri.
Some jobs are best left to the men.
Women banging on about womens rights dose my head in got the 50/50, but now most moan about it.
Your kids are not toys or your best friends.
Older mums 45 pluse with toddlers, you dont know it all so pull your nose in, if you see someone in their 20s and 30 with a kid.

Simonjt · 16/12/2025 19:04

I do things for my husband because I like him.

If someone knocks on the door I answer it rather than hiding and shaking in fear.

Blingismything · 16/12/2025 19:03

I cannot make a chicken last longer than a fortnight.
I don’t simmer the aforementioned carcass to make stock.
I enjoy blowing off and find it amusing even though my partner doesn’t agree.
Started weaning my children before the recommended age.

StripedVase · 16/12/2025 19:03

My husband left someone else for me
We got married with no guests and let my parents pay for the honeymoon
I had a C section
We sleeptrained our babies (total success, took 2 nights, perfect sleepers & happy people now)
I smoke weed in the evenings when they are in bed
I gossip like crazy
I really like my husband and trust him with other women.

ObelixtheGaul · 16/12/2025 19:01

I met the man who would become my husband when I was 18 and he was gasp 25. He wasn't a pervert or a man-child and we are still happily together over 30 years later.

So put that on your needles and knit it, MN!

Yes I know that but it's still got yucky stuff on it, even if it's sat in bleach. No judgement at all to those who use them, I don't think about how other people clean their toilets, but I feel nauseous at the idea of having one in my bathroom.

Me too. Exactly the same.

I’ve literally never seen that on MN. I think it’s a joke about what MNetters ought to be doing at Xmas but don’t. Because the reality is MNetters are proudly buying lots and lots of presents for their children. On that thread, I spotted posters who I always see on ‘peak MN’ threads proudly discussing the joy of the ‘big pile’ of presents.

There was a recent thread where the OP had spent most of her £250 budget for her teenage daughter and was saying that her gifts didn’t look like much. Cue lots of posters proclaiming £250 was an extortionate budget and their kids got half that amount and were grateful. Once you’re in the realms of teen years £250 doesn’t go far.

GreenWheat · 16/12/2025 18:50

I use the overnight delay on my washing machine, have done for 20 years, and have no worries about the house catching fire whilst I'm asleep. I also put the dishwasher on overnight.

Pluto46 · 16/12/2025 18:39

I once overheard a colleague say something that someone sensitive, somewhere in the world, might possibly have found offensive and I didn't report it to HR.

I am sometimes anxious/dis-organised/distracted and have not sought a diagnosis

Intothelight123 · 16/12/2025 18:30

Claim benefits and have a motability car

XenoBitch · 16/12/2025 18:30

I own a loo brush.
I piss in the shower.
I don't change my bedding weekly.
My dog is my furbaby and sleeps on my bed. She also goes to cafes with me.
I leave my washing out overnight.
I'm on benefits, and have Netflix. And Prime.
In cafes, I sit at the table whilst DP queues for our food/drinks.
The toilet/bathroom in my house is a downstairs one attached to my kitchen.

Of all the controversial topics that have arisen on this thread, I did NOT think it would be toilet brushes that derailed it. Peak Mumsnet.

You are so right 👍.
Peak MN 😂

I work in social work and it's local authority social work departments that fund carer support and in my opinion they deserve far more than they get.

Carers are woefully undervalued. Anything they can get which helps them in any way is a plus, imo.

Changingplace · 16/12/2025 18:24

I got married abroad and didn’t care whether most people came or didn’t.

My dog sleeps on my bed.

I wash everything together, if a tea towel needs washing I chuck it in the machine and it gets washed with whatever goes in next.

I’ve done drugs in the past, I’ll happily drink a whole bottle of wine to myself and not be even vaguely hungover the next day.

Crushed23 · 16/12/2025 18:24

Jellycatspyjamas · 16/12/2025 18:04

I see quite the opposite, anything more than a “thoughtful” gift and a satsuma is viewed as profligate and your child will grow up to be an ungrateful ratbag.

I’ve literally never seen that on MN. I think it’s a joke about what MNetters ought to be doing at Xmas but don’t. TinselTina · 16/12/2025 18:23

I prefer dogs to kids.

Littlebuddh · 16/12/2025 18:21

I have no interest in anyones kids their boring.
I pick the phone up when it rings i open the door if theres a knock.
I dont need to make an appointment to call or see family or friends.
I dont care about public loos.
I dont believe men are always wrong.
If i get hit, ill hit back twice instead of running to call the police first.
i wish world war 3 would start.

Coffeeishot · 16/12/2025 18:21

Lifelover16 · 16/12/2025 17:03

I liked my MiL

I liked mine she wasn't an easy woman sometimes but I liked and miss her, she was a fantastic grandmother as well.

BauhausOfEliott · 16/12/2025 18:19

I don't feel any need to remove my bra for comfort. If I'm pottering around the house, I'm more comfortable physically if I'm wearing one.

I don't care in the slightest if some total stranger owns a loo brush, wears pyjamas around the house, sleeps with or without knickers on or keeps their curtains closed all day. I also don't care how often other people change their bedsheets, how they pronounce 'scone' or what they choose to eat for their Christmas dinner. It affects me in precisely zero ways and I have no idea how people can be bothered to get worked up about this shit.

I use the word 'cunt' quite often, in both insulting and non-insulting contexts. In the bedroom, it's my preferred term for the body part.

I've lived with my DP for almost 23 years and I don't feel the need to get married to 'protect' my legal/financial situation in any way whatsoever.

I cannot stand the name 'Ottilie'.

I watch porn sometimes. I also follow loads of models/actors etc who I find attractive on Instagram for the sole purpose of ogling them. don't mind if my partner does these things either. I think it's perfectly normal and healthy and I wouldn't want to be in a relationship where it was considered OK to police each other's viewing/masturbatory habits.

I really like seeing my friends' holiday photos, updates, kids' first days at school etc on social media.

I've ghosted at least one friend.

I really love football and I shout and swear at the television when it's own.

I think it's fine to have friends of the opposite sex.

Lndnmummy · 16/12/2025 18:18

I don't log things with 111

I never drink 2l of waters. I only drink coffee and wine.

I have never had an issue with kids wanting boys toys, boys colours etc.

I don't think playing with Barbie dolls will make little girls anorexic.

I sometimes watched The Real Housewives of Orange County when I was on mat leave.

I let my children use their devices at the table sometimes.

I don't indulge people cooing over dogs and calling them 'their baby'. They are not a baby, they are a dog. I love dogs, but they are not children.

Punkerplus · 16/12/2025 18:17

RanyaJerodung · 16/12/2025 17:44

Right, so a social worker can give you money for a spa day? Not being goady, genuine question.

I work in social work and it's local authority social work departments that fund carer support and in my opinion they deserve far more than they get.
