Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

I think this works if two people work in the same / similar industry. I work in Finance and DP is a [type of] engineer and our pay scales and structures are vastly different, such that the senior people at his company earn less than some of our analysts and associates. Also bonuses are pitiful and there are limited ‘perks’ which facilitate having more disposable income (I have more free lunches than lunches I pay for). We don’t live together yet but I would have no problem in splitting shared costs proportional to earnings. Even if DP became the most accomplished engineer in his field, he would likely still earn nowhere near even mid-level staff at my firm. Enforced 50:50 would not be fair (and I would honestly see this as borderline financial abuse, especially if earnings are very different and both partners work full-time / there is no obvious slacking involved).

We are in the same industry. I don't think I'd feel differently if we were in different industries but then I wouldn't be with someone who didn't agree with 50:50 anyway.

I’ve never said I’ve found my crew/ posse on a post
i let my cats eat off of my plates
my husband doesn’t compete in a secret hobby that I can’t mention as it’s seriously outing
I have a loo brush
i tumble dry everything
I’ll change my sheets when I can be arsed but was my towels after every use

my husband doesn’t compete in a secret hobby that I can’t mention as it’s seriously outing

😆

And it's either golf, cycling or tennis which millions of people partake in.

I have seven children and I'm on benefits. I get £15000 per month.

I like to name my children after celebrities, so my youngest is called Nigel.

I'm also a landlord, so I charge myself rent. The benefits would be shit otherwise.

I'm NC with my eldest, who is 13, because her grandmother left her money that should have come to me.

I go shoplifting in my dressing gown and big fluffy slippers.

😂😂😂

Topseyt123 · 17/12/2025 15:53

I have two toilet brushes. Nobody has yet expired from this. 😃

I never really bothered limiting screen time for my children while they were growing up. They have turned out fine as adults.

We also wear shoes in the house when we want to and don't make a fuss if other people come in wearing them.

I regularly attempt to understand things from more than one point of view! 😄

Given the number of anti-Labour threads, I think that Labour is the least worst option we have, and I'm still hoping that they are playing the long game, and working to have something to show nearer the time of the election, instead of trying to provide instant public gratification, which was Boris Johnson's strategy (attempting to provide it, not actually providing it). But maybe I'm just still relieved that it wasn't the Tories or Reform who got in.

madaboutpurple · 17/12/2025 15:38

I sometimes call in at Bonne Marche mainly as I have seen critical comments on here about it.

I think you're right.

I earn more than DH and mortgage, nursery fees etc are all 50/50 but anything left over is ours and another unpopular MN thing is believing if he wants more 'fun money' after all bills are paid, he can earn it like I do.

Our dog is a very spoilt little madam and referred to as the 'favoured grandchild' - but I don't expect anyone other than us to take any notice of her (though I do judge a little if they don't as - well, dogs are just ace - and I judge anyone who doesn't acknowledge a dog)

We are shoes off - upstairs, downstairs is dogs and laminate - but don't expect anyone else to be - though if people are staying they usually get the message and use the provided slippers upstairs.

thing47 · 17/12/2025 15:12

OkWinifred · 17/12/2025 05:58

Doesn’t it bother you that they could have traces of dogshit, sick or gob etc on their shoes?

I have doormats in both my porch and my hallway, they are for the wiping of shoes.

I'm another who is supremely indifferent about whether people take their shoes off or keep them on in my house. Do whatever you feel most comfortable doing! I can't get excited by it either way.

Also, DS and DD2 shared a room until they were 10 and 8 even though there was another empty room available. Neither seems traumatised by this - now in their 20s they still see each other at least once a week.

And I'm delighted if friends or family drop round to my house unexpectedly.

Oh and I quite like dogs, but I don't want one in my own house because a) they smell and b) I have cats.

Barely breast fed DD1. Didn't even try with DD2. Weaned them on jars of Hipp Organic. Never once regulated their screen or phone time. They both got into grammar school, played County sport and went onto to good universities.

Married a DH who's never done any house work, ever (but happily pays for a cleaner and gardener, so everyone's happy).

Use bleach. Wash at 60 degrees. Tumble dry everything.

Never cook from scratch. We either eat out or have super easy stuff from M&S.

Fly on several holidays a year and would never dream of camping.

I spend far too much on presents for our DDs, but I love spoiling them.

Wear make up every day, get regular gel manicures & pedicures and Botox twice a year (I find my 'inner beauty' shines more brightly with artificial help).

I'm not a feminist. I consider myself a Realist instead.

Have friends of the opposite sex
Encourage dc to have sleepovers with their friends
Let the cats sleep on my bed
Still have photos of my late wife up
Eat pot noodles and other upf
Play sport regularly, can't say which one as it'll be outing

It's cycling isn't it?

I love my MIL, SILs, BILs and I love my son's partner as if she is my own.

I choose and buy all of my husbands family's Christmas presents - they're my family too.

My husband and I have a joint bank account and always have.

I never realised that meal planning, making appointments, paying bills, arranging social events, dealing with our finances etc were "life admin" and a "mental load". I just do these things and my husband does other things.

We both have friends of the opposite sex.

People on benefits don't cause me great anguish, I'm just grateful that I have never had to claim one.

My husband is as good a parent as I am.

I let everyone I know come to the hospital, then my house, after my two boys were born to meet them and didn't ask them to do my ironing!

I never moan about my husband to anyone - I will get over him annoying me, but they will always remember a temporary annoyance and judge him.

I have no problem with trans people using the spaces which corralate to their gender and never have considered public toilets as "safe spaces".

I like swearing - I'm Scottish.

HOWEVER, I don't have a toilet brush 😂

I thought in Scotland it was a gender neutral pronoun.

It comes out of funding specifically for carers. Social worker would need to apply for it.

Yes, that's already been explained upthread. As I said, it's a great idea. So many carers are doing amazing work, usually very undervalued.

It's to help carers from burning out. They do so much that would cost the taxpayers thousands if it had to be paid for.

An occasional treat should not be begrudged.

They do a great thing

Bingbongbangbop · 17/12/2025 11:37

RanyaJerodung · 16/12/2025 17:44

Right, so a social worker can give you money for a spa day? Not being goady, genuine question.

The problem is not that you use a loo brush, formula feed, answer the door, sleep train, eat massive salads or not etc. It’s that people are so arrogant, they think everyone should be the same as them and judge them for it.

This ⬆️. People get very angry and personal about it all as well.
