Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

I live my life without the burning resentment of the 'mental load' every time I have to spend 5 mins online updating the car insurance or similar.

Greenfinch7 · 16/12/2025 12:12

Sleep with my kids
Have no routine with young kids, including lots of travel in different time zones from an earl age
Use and share towels until they are about to start to smell
Don't always change sheets between guests if they are clean single people and close friends or family, (especially duvet covers)
Didn't have any screens in our house until kids were 12 and 10
Have hardly worked (for money) since having kids (they are adults now) I am not happy about this, but it is just how it happened and financially it was possible

Cynic17 · 16/12/2025 12:12

Not had a child.
Don't "do" Christmas.
Barely do housework, and don't care about it.
Don't track my nearest & dearest.
Think friends are more important than family.
Never use hand sanitiser or wear a mask.

Notmyreality · 16/12/2025 12:11

My kids and I regularly eat beige food especially chicken nuggets. Yum!
My kids watch screens sooo much.
I sometimes flush with the toilet seat up
Ive lived in Dubai and thought it was great
I don’t think all men are useless wankers
My DH carries the mental load and does a far better job than I ever could.
i do OnlyFans not because im desperate or even need the money but because my DH and like it.

whentwilightfalls · 16/12/2025 12:10

I have a son, who loves trucks, tractors and cars, and a daughter who loves dolls, princesses and fairies.

They both forward face in the car and have done so since around fifteen months.

They attend(ed) nursery part time.

K0OLA1D · 16/12/2025 12:10

I have tattoos and wear leggings

TittyGajillions · 16/12/2025 12:09

I let my cat sleep on my pillow with me and I kiss him on the nose all the time.

I love dogs 😱

Alwaysoneoddsock · 16/12/2025 12:09

I love unannounced visits. I hate booking in a visit. You find me as I am and I’m confident enough to be happy with that.

I open my door and I don’t know who’s there.

Front door is often unlocked.

A chicken is eaten at one meal. Salad is a side dish.

I love dogs.

Some people’s take on gentle parenting is not parenting.

Edited to add more - this is cathartic OP

I use fabric softener and have a blended family, I didn’t stay single until my kids were at least 30 so I’m selfish.

Ooooh, same! And my family is happy, which MN firmly believes to be impossible for poor children from a broken home with a selfish mother...

KStockHERO · 16/12/2025 12:08

> Use human cutlery to serve the dog's food. Wash the dog's stuff in with ours - knives, forks, bowls, towels, bedding, everything.

> Sleep in bed with the dog every night.

> Don't like children and have no desire to spend any time with any of them.

> Love Christmas and go massively OTT with decorations, tree, food, drink, presents for DP.

> Swear a lot

> Don't work very hard in my job and couldn't give a shit.

> Never been to, or seen the appeal of a spa.

Backtorealityerr · 16/12/2025 12:08

I got on really well with my MIL and I welcomed visitors with my newborns and was absolutely delighted to hand the babies over so I could have my arms back for a while.
Only use the word boundary when talking about land !
Call my friends for catch ups ,answer the door to unannounced visitors because a reasonable person will understand if I am busy.
I have a great relationship with my family and enjoy their company.
Was a very relaxed Mum of teenagers and picked my battles.
Drink more than a thimble of wine when socialising.

SeaToSki · 16/12/2025 12:07

When they were little my dc all had a strict routine and I sleep trained them at 5 months. I also used to make their baby milk up 24 hours worth at a time and keep it in the fridge, then microwaved it to take the chill off

LostittoBostik · 16/12/2025 12:06

I let my kids eat UPF snacks like oat bars and all that stuff.
I let my primary age kids have about 2 hours a day of screen time (but no more than 1 hour on tablet/games, the rest is tv)
I feed them chips at least twice a week. At least that way they are actually consuming SOME carbs (they hate other potato and rice and pasta)
I don’t send Christmas cards and I don’t make my children send them either.
I phone people when I need to speak to them without sending a text first.
I breastfed my children long after they had teeth and could talk.
I only change my own bedsheets about once a fortnight.

SparkleSpriteDust · 16/12/2025 12:05

I thought of one last night while watching 'The Holiday.'

I answer my front door. Even if someone knocked it in the middle of the night and I was alone, I would answer it.

And because of this, I would get to shag Jude Law.

TaupeRaven · 16/12/2025 12:05

Go downstairs in my own house wearing - brace yourselves - my pyjamas!!! Sometimes I even wander about in my underwear. I also answer the door in my pyjamas or dressing gown.

I keep my toothbrush in my ensuite and not in my kitchen.

Another person whose (older) children are allowed to swear, but not with aggression or at (as opposed to "to") other people. (They may tell me to fuck off, but only if they use my first name so that we're all clear that it's intended with some irony)

Serve my family a hearty lunch and still expect them to want a normal dinner, and not consider this to be in any way strange or excessive.

Fbfbfvfvv · 16/12/2025 12:04

I love elf on the shelf.

I very rarely iron, maybe one item a year. So no, if I’m low on money I definitely won’t be taking in other peoples ironing!

My house is never “visitor ready”.

Pyjamas are an option for day wear on a day off.

Watermelonsugar345 · 16/12/2025 12:04

Another one, me and DH have separate holidays occasionally. I’ve been abroad with friends despite having children, I know shocking

I love Christmas. I enjoy giving and receiving presents, I like buying extra treats for myself, I enjoy cooking Christmas dinner and love festive baking. I also am aware that a lot of the work I take on at Christmas is entirely optional and that I am doing it mostly FOR MYSELF and so I don't get annoyed with other family members or my OH over it.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/12/2025 12:02

I too have a loo brush in each bathroom - to date I have not suffered revilement, or been shunned, because of this!

Watermelonsugar345 · 16/12/2025 12:02

Shoxfordian · 16/12/2025 11:58

I like giving and receiving stuff for Christmas

Oh yes to this one, I actually do not mind receiving toiletries or candles!

I have a bathroom bin and a loo brush. But hands off my towel!

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 16/12/2025 12:01

Never use antibacterial wipes

Allow unannounced visits

Catpiece · 16/12/2025 12:00

@Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere Yes to the dummies and the swearing! 🤣

RanyaJerodung · 16/12/2025 12:00
