Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

I drive.
I’m happy to drive long distances - alone.
I am capable of going places without my dog.
I don’t infantilise my DH or my DK.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 16/12/2025 13:08

I drink half a bottle of wine a night and I've never considered I need to go to AA.

Lazygardener · 16/12/2025 13:07

I open the door when people ring the doorbell.

RubberyChicken · 16/12/2025 13:06

Only made a chicken last one meal

scalt · 16/12/2025 13:06

I wear trainers without socks.

I wear shoes in the house, and I don't ask visitors or workmen to remove theirs.

I allow workmen to use my toilet.

I poo in public toilets, with no shame or inhibitions at all.

I believe that germs are good for your immune system, and immaculately clean house = wasted life. I like seeing houses that look lived in.

I have a cat (a crime in itself to some MNetters), and I let him outside, although he is restricted to the garden by cat-proof fencing. He still brings in his trophies, though.

From the very beginning, I thought lockdowns caused much more harm than good (not merely the following year, when people saw the damage to their children and to many other things), and I think it was very wrong that the government's only method of communicating was to "frighten the pants off the public".

Dearg · 16/12/2025 13:06

Great thread. It’s life a confessional, but I am sober !

I love dogs

My dog sleeps on the bed, until recently we had 2 Labradors to cuddle every nite.

I take my dogs to cafes with me, and occasionally the pub.

You are generally welcome to bring your own dogs and children to my house, but do not expect me to banish my dogs

My older boy used to climb into the dishwasher for a prewash - and I let him

FlowersInPots · 16/12/2025 13:05

Oh also - swearing is a useful part of the English language and can convey a lot of feelings in one or two words.

And my house and clothes aren’t particularly tasteful. They’re colourful and I like them.

Coffeeishot · 16/12/2025 13:04

Oh I also don't mind Bayliss and Harding it has never given me thrush or a.rash it is just shower gel.

Sa11yCinnamon · 16/12/2025 13:03

Sleep trained my child.

Attended pro-Palestine demonstrations.

Supported trans rights.

Mumstheword1983 · 16/12/2025 13:03

I share towels with my kids. Sometimes. I believe this is the ultimate sin.

FlowersInPots · 16/12/2025 13:02

Oh god, loads.
I was a financially irresponsible but well travelled and happy adult until I was 30. And even now, my time and MH means more than pushing myself to make more money.

I reuse things until they break before I replace them.

Towels are changed weekly but beds, aim for 2 weeks but can be a few days overdue.

I send loads of Christmas cards and am disappointed that the amount we receive is dwindling.

I like the odd unannounced visitor.

I have a loo brush

I believe Christmas and birthdays should be fun and it’s fine to buy silly presents for children.

Punkerplus · 16/12/2025 13:01

I was actually thinking of this as a thread title OP, great choice. I have loads that are frowned upon 😂.

Like you I don't give a shit if you have a child free wedding or not. If I can't get childcare then it's my issue.

I had evening guests at my wedding. Nobody declined the invitation or stopped speaking to us!

I genuinely couldn't give a shit about UPF food. Don't get me wrong my children eat healthy homecooked food but they also have ready meals, pouches etc and I have absolutely feel zero guilt about this. I use supermarket pizza and bread and have quite frankly better things to be worrying about then analysing tinned tomatoes and fretting about using stock cubes.

I'd rather jump off a cliff than be a SAHM. My eldest went into nursery at 9 months and my youngest will 8 months. Zero guilt and furthermore I regularly use annual leave days for myself and keep them in nursery.

I use loo brushes. I hadn't even realised this was a thing until I came on here.

I have regular time away from my children and don't miss them when I'm gone.

I adore my MIL and in-laws but I'd rather scrape my own eyeballs out than entertain my own siblings.

I always answer my door.

I formula fed and made my husband share night feeds. Also absolutely love a dummy!

Me and my husband both have friends of the same sex that we meet for drinks and meals with. No issues with it at all.

I also had my children in my mid-late 30s. I'm fine but according to certain sections of mumsnet, having babies at this age means I should "be on my knees" with exhaustion and have been crippled by pregnancy of which neither applies to me.

I like getting getting drunk
I think hotel chocolat is nice
I'm 5 minutes late for pretty much everything
I probably go at least a month in between washing my bed sheets
I work full time even though I don't have to, because I like it
I don't believe that men 'don't see mess' or can't care for newborns in the same way as their mother can (bar breastfeeding)
I don't care if a he wants to be referred to as a she or wants to dress as a woman (access to single sex spaces is my line)

I'm chronically early and wash my sheets every week, but otherwise yes yes to all this.

Bloozie · 16/12/2025 12:58

Parenting
Don't regulate screen time. He has always done well at school/college - on track for triple distinction - he has friends, goes out, does his chores, has a part-time job...

Paid pocket money as an allowance, not against a list of chores. We don't get paid to do chores. We do them because we are responsible humans.

Swearing has always been fine if at objects or situations, but never at people.

Never set a bedtime. He has never had a problem getting up in the morning, if he's tired because he stayed up too late, that's a life lesson and as long as he doesn't take it out on everyone else, all good, For that matter, he's never had a curfew. He has always told me what time he will be home, he tells me if he's going to be late, he tells me if he is moving from one location to another...

Never had baby gates on the stairs or plug protectors. Taught him how to get down the stairs safely as soon as he could crawl (my childminder did this in fairness - genius move).

Co-slept until he was 6.

Life
I have two loo brushes

I don't think trans women are evil

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/12/2025 12:57

As new babies, dds were BFed 4 hourly - 6, 10, 2, 6, 10, 2.

It generally worked very well.

They both slept in cots in their own rooms from the time they came home from the hospital - in those days a 7 day stay for dd1, 4 for dd2.

I have loo brushes in all 3 loos.

When we had a dog I used to let her lick plates/dishes/roasting tins etc. - before they went in the dishwasher.
DDog often slept on our bed.

I change bedsheets etc, only when it occurs to me that it’s probably high time I did it.

We are and have always have been, a shoes-on house (except when wet or muddy, obviously)

BashfulClam · 16/12/2025 12:55

I have loo brushes, I use a towel for at least a week before getting fresh one as it’s only used to dry water from a clean body, I eloped and didn’t have any family at my wedding, I changed my name to my husbands nicer surname and use the title ‘Mrs’, I wash my hair every day(there was a big post about that one), I don’t have a bathroom bin, I don’t iron anything unless it really needs it…

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/12/2025 12:54

Has a child free wedding.
A couple of people kicked off like some suggest to do on here, so they were told they were welcome not to come.

I'm not married to DP
I forgave an infidelity
My children sleep in my bed regularly (one is year 7)
I tell my kids some food is bad and some food is good (because it's true)
I used to take drugs and I don't regret it

SouthLondonMum22 · 16/12/2025 12:53

Where do I start?

I formula fed from birth
I had a short maternity leave by choice and put my babies in nursery full time
I have never and will never co-sleep
I sleep trained
They were in their own room by 8 weeks old
My 3 year old has his own Ipad
My 1 year old twins know what chocolate is

SharpBrickMaker · 16/12/2025 12:46

Let my kids have greggs sausage roll

I've taken mine to McDonald's!

JudgeBread · 16/12/2025 12:50

I don't hate men and think they're all lying, cheating scumbags.

I drink quite a lot of wine.

I don't actually mind Bayliss and Harding.

I have been on and enjoyed an all inclusive package holiday.

I have a dog, I love her, she's part of my family and I let her sleep in my bed.

A chicken would not last my family a week. It wouldn't last a day.

I have no desire to wear a shapeless colourful sack to my events.

I am size Walmart.

I do not have a penis beaker.

Eastie77Returns · 16/12/2025 12:46

KittyFinlay · 16/12/2025 12:40

I let my 5 yo out to play unsupervised.
She doesn't go to sleep before 9pm.
I don't regulate her screentime (except not at bedtime or mealtimes).
I drink alcohol around my daughter.
We eat UPFs.
I never lock my door when I'm in during the daytime.
I let anyone who asks use my toilet.

Oh I drink alcohol around my DC and have several glasses a week.

According to MN folklore this means I am a) an alcoholic and b) the worst kind of mother because you should never drink when home with children - you might have to drive them A&E.

NimbleHiker · 16/12/2025 12:46

I like a glass of wine. I never iron. I don't eat every meal at the table.
