Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

Nothing wrong with “casual cunting”. Sometimes you just have to tell someone they are being a cunt.

You do. And of course in Glasgow it can be good or bad

Nightow · 16/12/2025 14:25

I let my dog lick my plate clean and spoon her in bed!

I replace very regularly but what else are we supposed to use to clean the toilet? Never understood this on!

I'm also another one who loved having visitors when I had a newborn. You want to come to my house, hold my baby so I can go to the toilet, drink a coffee and have my arms free. YES PLEASE.

I was also delighted for my MIL and parents to come round and just and sit and hold the baby and to see them bond. I didn't demand that they (or anyone) do my housework or cook a meal for me.

I also don't do "shaking and crying" or at "my wits end" over the smallest inconvenience.

I'd never use the phrase "get your ducks in a row" in real life (or on here for this matter).

Edited

Agree with absolutely every single one of these!!!

I open the door when someone knocks on it..... even shock horror..... when I'm not expecting anybody.

I've also also shared towels with other family members. 😱

I do both of these too!

liamharha · 16/12/2025 14:20

I've never had a child that is exceptionally clever and so developmentally ahead that her preschool have commented in it 🫣😉,,that will be down to all the screen time and sweets I should imagine 🤷😂

Paisleybuddy · 16/12/2025 14:19

Oh just thought of other things
I sleep trained my formula fed children and never had play dates. Their friends called on them and they played outside from about aged 6.
I resumed sex before my six week post partum check up
My 16/17 were allowed small amounts of alcohol with meals
I’ve been to Dubai.
I don’t give a shit about my birthday

Oh god this. There was a recent thread about this and someone literally posted a 20 step process of how even booking something so mundane like a dentist appointment caused them so much mental stress. Things like "thinking about booking the appointment", "putting it on the calendar", "anticipating traffic".

Absolute madness, it's wonder some people make it out of bed in the morning if they can't cope with something routine like a kids dentist appointment.

The recent thread where a man (so off to a bad start right there) posted about what was clearly an extremely unequal division of labour and quite a number of posters instead said that they were sure his wife was buckling under the enormous strain of occasionally booking vet appointments and doctor's appointments and buying clothes online - utterly crazy.

I gave up my extremely stressful job to be a stay at home mum. Not all on Mumsnet are negative about that choice but there are a vocal few who absolutely foam at the mouth whenever a woman dares to say they have done this.

Basically on mumsnet you can't win whatever parenting decision you make! The only acceptable way to be a mum on here is to have two kids (boy and girl), two years apart, between the ages of 28-33 and work part time on a term time school hours job. If you don't then you either:

Are a stay at home mum- relying on your husband, financially vulnerable etc

Work full time - why bother having kids? Care more about earning shoes and handbags than your children.

Outside the acceptable time frame and you're either too young or too old.

Have one child and then you're selfish and they'll be lonely. Have more than two then you're also selfish, not thinking of the planet and they'll be deprived of parental attention.

Have more than a two year age gap and they'll never play together and have nothing in common.

TheMoanerLisa · 16/12/2025 14:17

I hate the use of DC, DS, DH, DDog etc
Change the bed linen and towels now and again
I welcome ad-hoc visitors with or without their dogs
Let workmen use my toilet
Front door is only usually locked at night
Cats sleep in our bed
Have done the "mental load" for 40 years without knowing it even existed
Remained happily married for 40+years despite blazing rows & disagreements
Believe many label their children ADHA/SEN/Autistic etc without due cause
Treat my husband's family as my own (as does he)

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 16/12/2025 14:15

Not always washed hands after a wee.

Sorry!

liamharha · 16/12/2025 14:15

I don't need to be awkward with my in-laws and go no contact even tho they can be a pain in the arse .
I don't feel the need to make my husband pick me and respect my 'boundaries .
I let relatives visit me after giving birth 🙄
I think 'therapy' is a load of old shite that validates some nutcases perspective on situations 😱.
Its ok I'll delete myself 🤣🤣

BettysRoasties · 16/12/2025 14:14

I drink too much wine
Im fat
I actually enjoy sex as a women
I don’t think all men are shits
No I don’t think mum is always better than dad
I don’t drive, no I don’t need a lift
I was a sahm who didn’t do night feeds
I work from home when I feel like it now
I don’t regularly check my teens phones
Have a pool and will use it at 10pm if I want

Don’t like the whole soft parenting crap, have your tantrum I’ll keep walking catch up. No I’m not carrying your backpack or your scooter.

I upgrade my phone every 24 months on contract because I can.

Think that’s everything. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

liamharha · 16/12/2025 14:09

I don't limit screen time or sweets for my kids 😱.
If a Pad and a bag of chocolate buttons gives me 30 mins of fucking peace then 🙌🙌🙌🙌

I also want to move to Dubai ever since I heard about my friends cousin who moved there and lived in a private apartment complex with their own bar and pool and that most people out there seemed to have a live in maid and nanny.

I'd love to just sit by the pool with a mojito all day while someone else did my housework and looked after my children. Sadly neither me or my husband have careers that will ever make this possible.

I thought of one last night while watching 'The Holiday.'

I answer my front door. Even if someone knocked it in the middle of the night and I was alone, I would answer it.

And because of this, I would get to shag Jude Law.

😍

When they were little my dc all had a strict routine and I sleep trained them at 5 months. I also used to make their baby milk up 24 hours worth at a time and keep it in the fridge, then microwaved it to take the chill off

Strict routines from birth here, and sleep trained even earlier than you, I think most aspects of my early parenting would be vilified by mumsnet!

Kevinbaconsrealwife · 16/12/2025 14:02

Peclet · 16/12/2025 11:51

Have a loo brush.

Me too my lovely…pair of dirty bitches aren’t we 😂xx

Punkerplus · 16/12/2025 14:01

I also say no to my child and I'm not afraid to not give in to something for fear of it causing a tantrum.

There's so many wet lettuce parents on here. People who seem genuinely terrified of their toddlers so much that they rule the roost. People keep asking for "gentle" way of doing things and have absolutely no boundaries in place for fear of upsetting their child or their them causing a tantrum.

Just say "no" and be done with it. Young children have tantrums, it's how they process and learn about emotions and behaviours. What tiny children can't process are these massive long conversations about "feelings" which some mumsnetters seem to be fond of having with their 18 month old.

RandomUsernameHere · 16/12/2025 14:00

Have a loo brush in every bathroom!
Have a hot tub
Had my children in my twenties
Don’t work full time
Haven’t divorced my husband even though he once left a sock on the floor
Have been to Dubai (more than once)
Have had a personalised number plate

Starlight1984 · 16/12/2025 14:00

Oh god where to start😂

I drink too much wine

Regularly eat a bacon or sausage butty for breakfast (instead of the MN go-to of yoghurt and a handful of seeds).

We get a takeaway once a week, usually a Chinese

I adore my DH, look forward to seeing him every day and love having sex with him

Me and DH share towels - we just use whichever is dry on the towel radiator (we also share a toothbrush if we go away and one of us forgets to pack one)

Both our front and back doors are unlocked unless we're in bed.

We let the dogs on the furniture - it's their house too. They also come to the pub and to cafes with us. They're very well trained and make no fuss whatsoever.

I love my PIL massively and get excited when we're due to see them.

One chicken is for a Sunday roast between 2 (and scraps for the dogs)

Also let workmen use the toilet AND the kitchen to make / eat their lunch (and I can't believe there are people who don't allow this!)

I'm not cancelling Netflix / Amazon / Spotify to save myself £8.99 a month.

Whatsthatsheila · 16/12/2025 14:00

Are we not supposed to answer the door?! Wtaf - good job I do! Completely forgot I arranged for a plumber to come and sort out some radiator pipes this morning.

house was a shit tip I was only half dressed and I couldn’t find my door keys. He was not impressed
