Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

I used the Gina Ford books to set up routines for my babies and both slept through the night at six weeks. I worked from home for mu children's entire childhoods and never put either of my children into daycare - just taught them to be quiet when the phone rang.

Wynter25 · 16/12/2025 15:40

My son is over 3 still in cot
Had chocolate before 1
Went in his over room at 12 weeks
Drink too much wine

Don't really regulate my teens screentime, they're doing well at school, they both play in teams and go to training and matches, they have friends and socialise with them, so what they do in their free time, I don't really mind.

Same.

And I have a loo brush.

And I don't care at all if people request money in lieu of a wedding present.

CoralOP · 16/12/2025 15:39

These are amazing, I now know that they are normal people on here amongst the opinionated, men hating, how dare your children watch screens crew!

OK so mine would be

  • I put my son in his room at 3 weeks, he was noisy as hell and I constantly woke me up grunting.
  • I don't monitor screen time, he's always doing activities so he can go on his computer if he wants.
  • my dog is my second son, he can lick my face, sleep in my bed, whatever her wants.
  • I've tried drugs and it doesn't make me an addict, just someone doing what almost every other teenager and 20 something was doing.
- I fart my head off at home, I don't care one bit if someone farts around me, its funny.
  • I see people as good or bad not men=evil, women= angels, I know a lot of women who are completely dickheads.
  • we eat as many snacks as we want.
Coffeeishot · 16/12/2025 15:37

I have a younger woman on my.fb and she had "her little family" for 8ish weeks after her baby was born, we got glimpses of back of head or a little hand, it was really odd and bloody annoying!

Eastar · 16/12/2025 15:37

I have fairy lights and twiggy shit, although no inspirational quotes, so I might squeak under the MN radar.

forthisobpne · 16/12/2025 15:36

Fed my children solids from 10 weeks old.
Let them sleep
in their own rooms from a week old.
Bottle fed them.
Told a loud child off who was shouting in a museum presentation.
Put lipstick on someone's car once.
Threw coffee on someone's car once.
Kept a fiver I found.

Muffsies · 16/12/2025 15:35

Ate snickers bars whilst pregnant, let my babies eat peanut butter with finger food.

For context, this was back in the early 2000's when it was recomnended that families with severe nut allergies (and even eczema) avoid nut products during pregnancy & bf. It was done as a social experiment, rather than based on any clinical evidence.

My family didn't have any nut allergies, ecema or asthma. But that didn't stop the criticims and "what ifs" that i was being reckless or not following advice..

Turned out it was the wrong advice anyway.

Bonjovispyjamas · 16/12/2025 15:35

I read the Daily Mail 🙈

BunnyLake · 16/12/2025 15:33

When I read threads on MN about things that have upset an OP I realise I just don’t care about a lot of things. I couldn’t care less about going to a wedding or who’s not at a funeral or if my mum gave my kids sweets when they were young without asking me first and a million other things that seem to get MNers upset. And yes I was happy for any amount of family and friends to see my newborn babies and cuddle them, this was before SM when it became a ‘thing’ to just have ‘our little family’ for 6 months before anyone was allowed a peek.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/12/2025 15:31

I go out and walk the dog in my pyjamas
I flush the toilet with the lid up (and my toothbrush in the same post code! Have not yet died of 'germs')
I let the dog lick my dinner plate when I've finished eating
I let the dog in my bed in the mornings
I wash everything in the machine together at 40 degrees. Whites, coloureds, running kit, everything.
I regularly eat food which has passed its sellf by or use by date.

Am prepared to hold my hand up to being something of a household slob, but on the other side I am very rarely ill!

Flatulence · 16/12/2025 15:31

I don't have handsoap in the kitchen; I use washing up liquid instead.

I don't use "antibacterial" anything unless someone in the household has had a transmissible disease; I just use normal detergent and scrub.

I don't care if my neighbours see my underwear drying on the line.

I don't keep my front door locked if I'm coming and going between the house and front garden/bins or working at my desk in the hallway. I don't live as if every other person wants to burgle my house.

I have lots of straight male friends and my husband isn't jealous. My husband has lots of straight female friends and I'm not jealous either.

I actually speak to my neighbours and ask them politely if I need them to do something (e.g. move their car for access). They do the same towards me.

I love my job. I significantly outearn my husband and we're both very happy with the set up.

I drink alcohol several times a week. Sometimes I get drunk.

I like cycling and hate driving.

I regularly do stuff on my own: cinema, meal out, coffee, weekend away. Not because I haven't got anyone else to go with or because I'm sick of my husband but simply because I'm happy in my own company.

I clean my toilets no more than twice a week unless something disastrous has happened.

I wear fresh pyjamas every night.

I shower at night, not in the morning (unless it's very warm).

I choose to spend a lot of money on myself (hair, clothes, hobbies, holidays etc.) rather than save every penny. I'm happier having nice things and nice experiences but a smaller pot of savings than squirreling away everything and living a sad, beige, lifestyle.

Letthemeatgateau · 16/12/2025 15:30

When I met someone special, I didn't wait a year /2 years/forever to introduce him to DC. I said he was my friend, he was. Decades on, here we all are and I don't regret the early introduction.

I don’t like working with women a lot of the time and would much rather an 80/20 or at the most 70/30 ratio male/female co-workers.

I really like both my sons’ girlfriends and they like me. I’m going to be a well liked mil 😊

Edited

I find some women quite tedious to work with, I find with most men you can just get on with work!

babasaclover · 16/12/2025 14:23

I replace very regularly but what else are we supposed to use to clean the toilet? Never understood this on!

They are either donning the rubber gloves or have a cleaner ! I have neither so brush it is 😀

BackToLurk · 16/12/2025 15:26

SunnyViper · 16/12/2025 15:25

I leave the door unlocked during the day when I’m in.

Happyholidays78 · 16/12/2025 15:25

Let me son have a dummy until he was 4 & he slept in our bed until he was about 10. He's turned into a decent 18 year old without protruding teeth!
Also told family & friends to stop buying us Christmas presents & vice versa as our kid's got older.

CandidRaven · 16/12/2025 15:23

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/12/2025 12:02

I too have a loo brush in each bathroom - to date I have not suffered revilement, or been shunned, because of this!

Are people on here against loo brushes?! I've got them in my bathrooms oops 😅

everdine · 16/12/2025 15:21

I didn’t get married when I was going to have children, I had savings and I wanted to keep them just in case things didn’t work out! We have since had a civil partnership (once it became legal for heterosexual couples.) We did it purely for legal reasons, it wasn’t a celebration. We had two witnesses and didn’t even have to speak, just sign a copy!

Paisleybuddy · 16/12/2025 15:20

spookysoul · 16/12/2025 14:03

Strict routines from birth here, and sleep trained even earlier than you, I think most aspects of my early parenting would be vilified by mumsnet!

ha you and me both

Muggletum · 16/12/2025 15:16

As a family, we eat beige freezer to oven food four or fve times a week, usually with tinned beans or frozen peas to make it healthier. And I hardly ever properly mop the kitchen floor, I just take a wet tissue to any spills or marks and it looks fine...

secretllama · 16/12/2025 15:13

With both my children, i started having child free nights out from when they were around 3 months old and didnt feel guilty at all.

BountifulPantry · 16/12/2025 15:10

My OH doesn’t have a penis beaker.
