Just for fun.

What are some things that you have done in the past or do now that you know most MN’s would find you unreasonable for?

I’ll go first:

  • I’m so unbothered if you choose to have a child free wedding and my children aren’t invited. Even close family weddings. It’s your day I’m not going to kick up a fuss that you haven’t invited to my children. You’ve probably given me at least 6 months to a year notice, I’ll just arrange childcare. If I can’t - then I can’t come and you can’t be mad at me!
  • Chose to have 2 elective c sections for no medical need.
  • Given my children chocolate occasionally before the age of 2.
  • Son slept in a cot until almost 3!

Worked part time instead of sticking my kids in wraparound care.

Echobelly · 16/12/2025 16:00

Left my kid as baby or toddler sleeping in locked car parked next to door when nipping into boots to get something, or to pay for petrol.

No, never on a hot day, no I was not going to forget they were there and go off to do something else and no, there was never a person who wanted to kidnap a baby happening to walk past who decided to look in all the cars and then break my window to abduct my child.

I have a lot of male friends, dh has some female friends. Mostly we socialise together. I have liked or disliked both men or women equally in my life. I tend to like about 90% of people. even those I don't like, i tend to like initially until they show me reason to change my view. I like meeting new people and I happily engage in small talk.

I take my small child to places. Think of the horror of seeing a toddler in a restaurant 😮

I’ve taken mine to places too. My eldest was 2 when I took him to The Louvre and he was very well behaved and quiet.

I have occasionally leafed my way contemplatively through specs of bathrooms with carpets.

Too far?

Oh I remember in the 80s we had a bathroom carpet! My friends mum had a sunken bath and it was carpeted right up to thr outside edge

Just looked on here. I do all sorts if ' terrible' things. People on MN are tiresome bores, aren't they. Must take a lot of bandwidth having to show off your ' virtuous living' all the time. Since when did raising kids become an Olympic sport.

My dog sleeps on... And sometimes in... My bed with me. He's a pug and although he isn't my 'fur baby', he's definitely like a child to me. We have an amazing bond and he's the 'little spoon' at bedtime, I cuddle him in all night (at his insistence!). I'm very aware of dog smells so he gets bathed after any walks that aren't on dry, paved paths and I wash my bedding weekly.
But I'd rather know he's had a comfortable, happy life than have a dog smell free home. He won't be here forever so he gets to have the best life while he's here. Couldn't care less if anyone thinks it's filthy 🤷

I adore my little dog he does sleep in a crate in my room he has a great life and mostly socially acceptable and doesn't bother anyone outside, he isn't a "furbaby" but he gets away with much more than other dogs i have had.

1.I love receiving Bayliss and Harding gift sets. In fact I buy B&H liquid soap myself.

2.My front door is always locked but should there be an unexpected knock at the door I'm happy to answer it without shaking and spiralling.

  1. Bedding is changed once every 3 weeks or so and towels are shared.
UneAnneeSansLumiere · 16/12/2025 15:48

I employ a cleaner. I have a toilet brush, in fact, 3! One for each bathroom in my house. I say 'pardon' not 'what'. I know it's non U/lower middle class but I can't help it. 'What' just sounds uncouth to my ears. I do say 'napkin' rather than 'serviette' and 'scent' not 'perfume' and 'pud' rather than 'dessert', so I hope I'm forgiven!
I love being online and am always buried in my phone.
I think children should be seen and not heard, not in their own house but in public.
I prefer cats to dogs and think extreme dog lovers are cultists who mistake dogs' submissiveness for adoration.
While I don't think anyone can change sex, I think that some gender critical people are too tolerant of weird behaviour of people on our side, like Glinner. Just because he's right on that one thing doesn't make him a decent person or a feminist.
Talking of feminism, I think some feminists take their dislike of men too far. To be more precise, I think that they conflate 'men' and 'patriarchy'. There are men who work to dismantle patriarchy, and women who staunchly uphold it.

Oh and I do the majority of the housework, my husband works fulltime, I work parttime so why wouldn't I.

I have a younger woman on my.fb and she had "her little family" for 8ish weeks after her baby was born, we got glimpses of back of head or a little hand, it was really odd and bloody annoying!

Was she a friend? Or a random person? I'm confused 🤣

BunnyLake · 16/12/2025 15:45

HappySonHappyMum · 16/12/2025 15:40

I used the Gina Ford books to set up routines for my babies and both slept through the night at six weeks. I worked from home for mu children's entire childhoods and never put either of my children into daycare - just taught them to be quiet when the phone rang.

I didn’t use for general stuff but her toilet training book was a godsend!

Go downstairs in my own house wearing - brace yourselves - my pyjamas!!! Sometimes I even wander about in my underwear. I also answer the door in my pyjamas or dressing gown.

I keep my toothbrush in my ensuite and not in my kitchen.

Another person whose (older) children are allowed to swear, but not with aggression or at (as opposed to "to") other people. (They may tell me to fuck off, but only if they use my first name so that we're all clear that it's intended with some irony)

Serve my family a hearty lunch and still expect them to want a normal dinner, and not consider this to be in any way strange or excessive.

Erm, why would people keep.their toothbrush in the kitchen?😳🤔

I keep mine in the en suite too... is this wrong? Lol 😆 🤣 I'd never have known, so I've been doing my toothbrush locations all wrong this time haha 😄

I genuinely never knew there was etiquette surrounding this until now. I’m surprised I’ve not been chinned. I thought the point of having children was to dispatch and secure seating whilst I queued!!!

Yes that was my kids job and it was mine when I was a kid 😁.

noramoo · 16/12/2025 15:42
  • I don't send my DD to nursery and don't plan to
  • I have a toilet brush in each toilet!

I let my 8 year old sit in the house alone for ten minutes if I’m popping to the shop. She has also, today, gone to the shop on her own for the first time!
