To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

Predictable 19% of MN jew haters disagree OP 😉. I haven't read the pages of your post yet but am guessing Israel gets brought in pretty quickly. Funny that, how the people that say you can't criticise Israel without being called antisemetic always bring Israel in when some are discussing jew hatred. Couldn't make it up really 😄

What Hamas did was clearly wrong. I said earlier that targeting civilians is always wrong, whether it is Hamas, other terrorists worldwide, or Israel. All three groups I mention here have done this, and are continuing to do this, and are all equally wrong. I can't see how you could disagree with this.

I didn't ask you what you thought of the wrongness of Hamas/terrorist groups/Israel's actions.
You said that Israelis' collective belief system is built on lies and they'll have a long and painful journey towards accepting the truth that the Israeli government and military's actions were indefensible. Do you agree that Palestinians also have a collective belief system based on lies and they will face a similar long and painful journey to confront and accept the same truth about their own leadership and armed forces?

Treating it as a hate crime.

You know, the same way abuse against black people or Muslims would be treated.

Why aren’t Jewish people worthy of the same protection?

Because right now they absolutely don’t have it and anyone who disagrees is being deliberately obtuse.

And before people start jumping in with clever remarks: yes, I know that officially antisemitism is a hate crime.

But officially and in reality are two different things.

You can’t equate Israel or even the Israeli government with Hamas. You just can’t.

They are not ‘all equally wrong’.

How can you honestly believe that?

In fact, there was significant anti Irish racism, and many innocent people were framed and imprisoned. As well as torture of prisoners. And widespread human rights abuses in Northern Ireland. Just for the record. And, why on earth would Catholics in the UK be targeted? You clearly have no knowledge or understanding of the conflict in your own country, assuming you are British.

I was responding to the poster who referred to ‘Muslims’, not ‘Syrians’, Afghans etc. I was deliberately using a religious term.

From the latest PCPSR (Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research) survey in October:

53% of Palestinians thought Hamas' decision to launch the October 7th attack was the correct one.
39% of Palestinians thought Hamas would emerge victorious in the war.
69% opposed disarming Hamas to permanently end the war in Gaza.

When asked if Hamas had committed the atrocities seen in the videos shown by international media displaying acts or atrocities committed by Hamas members against Israeli civilians, such as killing women and children in their homes, the overwhelming majority, 86% said it did not commit such atrocities, and only 10% said it did.

This is also a collective belief system based on lies. Do you think the Palestinians will one day have to face the truths of the October 7th atrocities, Hamas' strategy of deliberately maximising Palestinian civilian deaths, stealing billions in aid from their own people and violently quashing dissent in order to move forward? As with the Israelis, would you require them to accept that the actions and choices of their government, its military wing and members are totally indefensible?

While you're here @singmoon I'd still like to know your thoughts on this.

singmoon · 17/12/2025 11:37

Maray1967 · 17/12/2025 10:48

Agreed.

I don’t think anyone made comments about ‘Catholics’ after the IRA bombings in NW England thirty plus years ago.

I am sick of encountering blatant anti-semitism dressed up as concern for Gaza.

There is a real issue with people conflating the actions of Israel (a state with a majority Jewish people) with all Jewish people worldwide. This is clearly absurd. Millions of Jewish people are not Israeli, have no family or connection to Israel, have never been there. Millions of Jewish people are outraged by the genocide in Gaza, and yet are subjected to anti semitism due to misplaced blame for Israel's actions.

Western governments should be shouldering blame for failing to intervene earlier when it was clear the response from Israel was disproportionate

Yes, always important to differentiate between the good Jews and the bad Jews <sarcasm>

What about the Iranian Mullahs and the leadership of Afghanistan who believe that no women should have civil or human rights?
Do we blame our Muslim neighbours for that? Say they've got a target on their back?

Do we in the west arm and support Iran? Or Afghanistan? And call them democratic and legitimate states? The two states are not in fact comparable to Israel. Though, just fur clarity, I would not under any circumstances condone seeing Jewish people worldwide as responsible for the crimes of Israel. Or Muslims worldwide for the actions of rogue Islamic states either.

Can you share what you think would be a proportionate response to having your country constantly bombed and subject to terrorist attacks from people whose avowed intent is to eradicate said country from the face of the earth? And having thousands of evil men pour across your borders to perpetrate acts of such unspeakable and unimaginable depravity against your citizens that it defies the understanding of any normal human being?

I've been asking this same question for over two years and not one person has come up with a viabe answer.

I’d like to hear the answer to this too.

How would people feel if this had happened at Glastonbury for instance?

The government couldn't even send a senior member of the Cabinet to the memorial for Bondi victims on the second night of Chanukah. If Keir had any bxlls at all he would have attended himself. After all, one of the rabbis murdered was British!

He is so spineless I’m surprised he manages to walk upright.

I see Sadiq Khan or at least his office tried to stop the vigil for Bondi. I can’t imagine the motives were anti-Semitic, more for safety like the Aston Villa shenanigans. But of course this just sends the message that we must capitulate to those who mean us (Jews and the general public) harm. Look at NYE in Paris - cancelled. I guess we’ve accepted we have to surrender to the enemy within.

Spot on. The only violence we really need to be protected against is Islamist.

Yeah the rabbi at my congregation knew him as do most of the Rabbis in the UK as they all go to school together at some point. Am sure there are other victims with connections here too.

This isn't about the Palestinians, it's about an unrelated murder of innocent people celebrating on a beach. Why dont you just admit you're a racist. Don't bother to dress it up because you clearly wear it as a badge of honour. You actually hide your bigotry behind the millions of other bigots who feel proud to hate Jews. You're nothing but bullies feeling emboldened but heaven forbid anyone be so bold to do the same with Muslims. Bloody hypocrites. The lot of you. Cowardly hypocrites.

Well said. Far too many of them.

Coachbella · 17/12/2025 10:53

Snowonground · 17/12/2025 09:58

Why are you conflating issues? I thought we were talking about anti semitism in the UK. People who bring Gaza into their arguments are just trying to make excuses for being a racist.

You are correct , some people always draw the ‘ but what about Gaza” to derail the conversation about horrific Jew hatred as they can’t seem to acknowledge that just maybe their morals are compromised
