To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

The UN is demonstrably antisemitic so their classification is expected

The UN is not anti semitic. It rightly criticises Israel. That is not anti semitic.

We arm the Saudis. And China. It’s never mentioned though. This idea that all the focus on Israel is completely reasonable and justified just does not tally with the intensity and tribalism associated with it.

But regardless, the point is that the discussion of antisemitism always seems to come back to Israel even when people are saying that they completely accept that British/Australian Jews are not responsible for Israel. Which is strange. We all accept it isn’t relevant but people keep making it relevant.

I just think there is so much moral confusion. People are seduced by this Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela, IRA ‘freedom fighter’ bullshit. Just because in some cases they got what they wanted, it doesn’t mean what they were morally right. The principle is clear. Targeting civilians is always wrong. Always.

I absolutely agree with you about targeting civilians, this is why Israel is committing war crimes in doing so.

Great so you can be equally outraged at both. Hmmm

Yes. Both are outrageous. Anti-semitism and anti-Islam.

I might take a dash of bigotry over the murder of a 10 year old or a middle aged couple. Your priorities are clear.

Really? What are my priorities, enlighten me please?

Do we in the west arm and support Iran? Or Afghanistan? And call them democratic and legitimate states? The two states are not in fact comparable to Israel. Though, just fur clarity, I would not under any circumstances condone seeing Jewish people worldwide as responsible for the crimes of Israel. Or Muslims worldwide for the actions of rogue Islamic states either.

Two wrongs don't make a right. It's never ok to kill children/starve a whole civilian population. The UN commission classified what has happened in Gaza as genocide.

Reform is popular due to excessive immigration from a lot of different countries that have incompatible cultures to our own mainly vis a vis women and gay people (and Jews) and some of them seem to be unable to stop themselves attacking other people.

And that successive government don't seem to have the will to stop the illegal immigration of people coming in with those views or ability to chuck out any immigrant that commit crimes.

But Reform whatever other policies they have do have that will. And its the number one priority of the country. So thats why Reform are so popular.

Its not rocket science.

Can you share what you think would be a proportionate response to having your country constantly bombed and subject to terrorist attacks from people whose avowed intent is to eradicate said country from the face of the earth? And having thousands of evil men pour across your borders to perpetrate acts of such unspeakable and unimaginable depravity against your citizens that it defies the understanding of any normal human being?

What about the millions of Jews who are indeed Zionists and might even support the actions of Israel? (Not saying I'm one, just asking)... are they not entitled to the protection of their own countries? Do we have to prove we are worthy?

there are clearly millions of people of all sorts of religious and ethnic backgrounds who hold problematic views and yet they also deserve our protection. That's literally what makes us a democracy.

as an aside I would also love to know the correct response to October 7th. When Pearl Harbor was bombed the USA nuked Japan... twice.

And Pearl Harbour was a military target. Unlike the Nova festival.

PoppysAunt · 15/12/2025 11:59

What about the Iranian Mullahs and the leadership of Afghanistan who believe that no women should have civil or human rights?
Do we blame our Muslim neighbours for that? Say they've got a target on their back?

Unfortunately yes, lots of people do. Why else is reform so popular?

I’d like to hear the answer to this too.

How would people feel if this had happened at Glastonbury for instance?

Which country is the UK occupying in this hypothetical example?

HRTQueen · 17/12/2025 12:46

Upstartled · 15/12/2025 11:34

It is rife in politics, academia and in the unions. I don't know how we'd even begin to tackle it in the wider population when it is tolerated and encouraged within our institutions.

I agree with this

It is very disappointing to hear what my ds has been saying, he does not see his remarks as being anti sematic (owning banks, influence in media).

It is also shameful to disregard to anti-Semitism on the marches supporting peace in Gaza.

I’m just going to assume you didn’t understand the post.

Apologies I didn’t read your post properly and thought you were saying do they not care about Palestinians being killed - in my defence I am so triggered by constant gaslighting over this subject that I just presume people will justify Jewish peoples murders these days

Moomin88 · 17/12/2025 12:21

Wtf has that got to do with innocent Jewish people being shot to death on a beach in Australia? Look forward to your answer 🙄

There is a real issue with people conflating the actions of Israel (a state with a majority Jewish people) with all Jewish people worldwide. This is clearly absurd. Millions of Jewish people are not Israeli, have no family or connection to Israel, have never been there. Millions of Jewish people are outraged by the genocide in Gaza, and yet are subjected to anti semitism due to misplaced blame for Israel's actions.

Western governments should be shouldering blame for failing to intervene earlier when it was clear the response from Israel was disproportionate

Treating it as a hate crime.

You know, the same way abuse against black people or Muslims would be treated.

Why aren’t Jewish people worthy of the same protection?

Because right now they absolutely don’t have it and anyone who disagrees is being deliberately obtuse.

In that case we can agree.

Predictable 19% of MN jew haters disagree OP 😉. I haven't read the pages of your post yet but am guessing Israel gets brought in pretty quickly. Funny that, how the people that say you can't criticise Israel without being called antisemetic always bring Israel in when some are discussing jew hatred. Couldn't make it up really 😄

I know, at this rate you almost want them to come out and own it rather than spout rubbish.
