To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

I just googled that as I didn’t know what it was about.

It really is everywhere, isn’t it? So insidious.

It was absolutely shocking to listen to.

No implication. You only have to watch the councillors debating renaming Herzl Park to hear blatant antisemitism.

Well, I feel I have nothing new to add so I think I'll stop posting. I abhor anti semitism. I abhor october 7th. I abhor the ongoing genocide in Gaza. I abhor having human rights protests against genocide cynically rebranded as anti semitism to defend Israeli war crimes, which is defintely happening. I have protested against many other human rights infringements by many states and actors over the decades. This is only one of many for me, not a sudden interest in this conflict only.

Did you attend anything calling for the release of Israeli hostages?

I have protested and marched many times as well. And am horrified to see something I find so valuable co-opted by a minority of truly vicious hateful people surrounded by a majority of thoughtless ones. It’s isolating and lonely and very, very depressing.

You know, it really is ok to talk about antisemitism without mentioning anything else. You can just condemn antisemitism and leave it at that. "My condolences to the Jewish community at what is obviously a difficult time. Let's hope for a better future" and then leave it at that.

But you've chosen to repeatedly mention Israel and Gaza because you don't seem to think Jewish people are worthy of time to grieve. You've been asked to stop mentioning it but you apparently can't help yourself. You keep doing it. If you can't talk about Jewish suffering without mentioning Gaza, you are a part of the antisemitism problem whether you want to believe it or not. You might think you don't dislike Jews, but your repeated insistence on mentioning Israel and Gaza would indicate otherwise. It's really sad. We need allies and you seem to want to be one, you're just really far off the mark at the moment.

I can see your frustration and you probably mean well (sorry, that's not meant to sound patronising!). But to see you constantly repeating "genocide" in one direction, when it was the clear intent of 7/10 and all the media manipulation that has taken place so successfully since, as well as a clearly stated goal that long precedes the Israel-Gaza war, makes me despair. The truly genocidal antisemites are winning the propaganda war, which targets well-intentioned people with a liberal mindset. (Just to add: I have always had a liberal mindset! - but the past couple of years have made me very, very bitter and cynical.)

Also I think implyng protest is anti semitic

You seem to know all the definitions of antisemitism except the correct one.

singmoon · 17/12/2025 20:25

Kingscallops · 17/12/2025 20:21

You got it, whether directly or indirectly. I suppose being right on trendy is more important than considering the full ramifications of aiding the call for death.

But apparently no-one is saying that protesting against Israeli actions is anti semitic?

Gosh, well if you're happy with calls for other people to die, I'm not sure that makes you a good person.

And if you've heard those chants, you're marching alongside antisemites and supporters of antisemites. Well done.

Also I think implyng protest is anti semitic

I read this as saying pretty clearly that protesters are anti semitic? Everyone on the protests supports annihilation of another race?

In Ireland there is a long running and emotive support for the Palestinian cause because of a perceived affinity between Ireland's struggle against Britain and Palestine's against Isreal.

That, combined with the fact there is no Jewish population to speak of for anyone to get to know, means it can be an uncomfortable place to be Jewish, sadly.

This also implies support for palestine in ireland is anti semitic

singmoon · 17/12/2025 20:09

Kingscallops · 17/12/2025 15:26

Resistance and freedom fighters. The only freedom Hamas want involves the annihilation of another race. Anybody on the protests is explicitly or implicitly supporting that. Simple. That goes for many of the apologists and appeasers on here.

HappyFace2025 · 17/12/2025 19:56

I agree with your 19.44 post @Beachtastic
It was a war. The word genocide appeared in the internet before Israel even began its defence. A fact I became aware of when DD2's best friend from her days studying in Ireland, used the term when messaging DD two days later! Needless to say they are no longer friends.

HappyFace2025 · 17/12/2025 19:49

No, that is the excuse given. Antisemitism has always been around. Here in the UK security at Jewish schools and places of worship has been the norm for many years, a fact that many non Jews are unaware of. Disputes over Israel and Palestine have been going on for decades. The constant marches and protests organised by the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign have fuelled the upsurge in antisemitism and attacks against Jews, culminating in the Manchester synagogue terrorist attack only a few weeks ago.
There has never in Israel's short history (77 years) been such a venomous pogrom as happened on 7 October 2023. Their government did what they had to do to protect their citizens, whether we agree with how they did it or not.

Edited

It definitely is two years too late for the more rigid arrest criteria.

I’m aware of the history, thanks. It’s fairly obvious that antisemitism has risen in response to the current genocide.

The Met police are arresting pro-Palestine supporters tonight for calling for an intifada - Halle bloody lujah

I hope it's not too little, too late. The seeds are sown and have been readily accepted.

To me, it's clear that the word "genocide" has been turned in the opposite direction from the obvious intent of Hamas, who have manipulated the narrative ever since 7/10 and the so-called "pro-Palestinian" marches that were arranged for the following weekend in the UK, while the attacks were still unfolding in Israel. It was a classic DARVO move: if we keep shouting "genocide", no one will realise that's our own plan. And it's working so well... to the point where any attack on Jews is met with "but genocide in Gaza!".

I call it it a war; this does not make me a psychopath who wants children dead! - because it was fought against combatants who disguised themselves as civilians/medics/journalists, maximised civilian death/casualties by careful placement of strategic points, reported everything as a civilian loss, and then exploited everything for social media (as well as flooding social media, including MN, with disinformation). That it resulted in the death of ~3% of the population, in those circumstances, is nothing short of a miracle and does not point to genocide, in my view, despite the fact that the Israeli government includes some dangerous nut jobs.

Not in response to so you're aware of naff all. Blinkered in your self-righteousness that's only to make yourself feel morally superior. I don't think there's much moral superiority going in when you can't even mourn the loss of innocent lives without twisting events. The people on the beach had no connection whatsoever to Hamas and Gaza except to be a religion and ethnicity that can't be left alone, by fascists, inside and outside of Gaza and most certainly on this thread.

Yes, indeed; the bigotry and hatred of growing up in a death cult that celebrates the destruction of Israel and the sadistic murder of Jewish people, as evidenced by e.g. that guy calling his parents to gloat over having the blood of Jews on his hands, and their ecstatic reception of this news; the jubilation in the streets when Shani Louk's broken naked body was paraded to be spat on; the Gazan civilians who swarmed over the border to rape, mutilate, torture and burn alive. Of course the Israeli government has its nutters too, but I do find it odd that you only seem able to point the finger in one direction. Are you seriously saying that those attacks were a direct and understandable response to Israel's treatment of Gaza? That Hamas itself can entirely be blamed on Israel, without acknowledging their clearly stated goals?

Well said..these people always say they are equally horrified at both Islamophobia and antisemitism. Their posts never quite seem to tally with that.
