Sky News segment on visa overstayers tonight

icannotbelievethis · 11/12/2025 22:29

One woman who came here on a 3 month visitor visa 12 years ago, who is a “full time carer” for her sister.

One man who came here on a student visa which was then cancelled because he stopped attending his lectures, who has been here illegally for two years and works cash in hand. Therefore not paying tax or national insurance.

Wtf?! Why did Sky News interview them (and no doubt pay them!) and not turn up with the border force to get them sent home?! This is baffling

BettysRoasties · 12/12/2025 19:28

All those who overstay should be rejected for future visas and removed. No but I have a baby here or a wife. You knew you shouldn’t be here when you did those things.

Need to stop being a soft touch as it just encourages more.

Hopefully the news has just put those interviewed right back on authorities minds. News can’t go handing everyone over though or nobody would talk.

BG2015 · 12/12/2025 19:13

My friend works for a university and says loads of overseas students come here 'to study' then just disappear. She says they just stop attending lectures, presumably because they either 1) don't like it and return home or 2) they use it as a route into the country in order to live here illegally.

Sorry but I do not care she has broken the law
If she wants to look after her sister apply through her legal route
Sick of hard luck stories

How's this lady affecting your life in anyway?
Presumably, if she's deported, her sister might have to go in care and cost the tax payer a £1000 a week in care home fees. Maybe the home office is aware of that fact and it's doing damage control.
Hard luck stories indeed.
You know no one stays poor or rich forever? If you look at history, empires rise and fall, look at the soviet union, look at the mighty empires of old.
In 100s of years Britain might become poor and some countries might become rich.
So immigration might reverse.
While its ok to have rules and whatever,
It costs nothing to be respectful of human beings.

Snakebite61 · 12/12/2025 19:07

I couldn't care less. Good luck to them. I'd swap them for a tory/reform voter anyday.

MoFadaCromulent · 12/12/2025 11:57

I am interested to hear what actual news is and how it would be reported on if reporters were expected to immediately burn sources.

NoisyViewer · 12/12/2025 11:35

icannotbelievethis · 12/12/2025 07:24

So? Maybe they could go back to reporting actual news. Not advertising to people across the world that if they come here they can just disappear and be illegal for life.

Like I said I don’t disagree with your anger at people being here who shouldn’t. I’m suggesting that a news organisation would soon have nothing to report if they grassed.

She has a point, British people as ex-pats and tourists have caused a lot of harm to the world, including pricing out locals from buying property and also white British male sex tourism / child exploitation.

That poster specifically referred to people who come on holiday. Not the ones who buy houses and form ex pat communities.

nomas · 12/12/2025 10:34

BerryTwister · 12/12/2025 09:27

@AlloaintheMiddle I think you’re struggling to understand the point being made. No one is saying it’s OK to break some laws but not others. They’re simply pointing out that destructive tourists who cause havoc for 2 weeks then go home are not the same as people who stay in a country illegally for years. Regardless of which of those 2 groups you think are “worse”, surely you can understand that they are not comparable?

I guess you watch the BBC as that has been shown to be so honest and unbiased
LOL

No one said anything about GB News being dishonest and biased?

If that’s immediately where your mind went, then it’s you who thinks GB News are dishonest and biased.

PopcornPoppingInAPan · 12/12/2025 09:42

AlloaintheMiddle · 12/12/2025 09:12

So YOU get to decide which laws are fine to break and where?
Sounds like you have more in common with the people you’re ranting about than you think. 😂

Let’s make sure everyone stays exactly where they were born forever, right? Including the Brits who descend on my home country every summer, get paralytic, act like absolute idiots and leave the place looking like a complete dump.
Or you think you’re somehow special and other countries can’t wait to welcome you?

What’s that got to do with illegal immigration? I think you picked the wrong thread.
Also, not denying there aren’t absolute arseholes holidaying abroad, but most of us aren’t. Don’t tar us all with the same brush.

WhineAndWine1 · 12/12/2025 09:21

@surreygirly10 years in prison for a visa violation? Rapists and Peados don’t event get 10 years.

surreygirly · 12/12/2025 09:21

nomas · 12/12/2025 07:42

🤦🏻‍♀️

Why are you watching it if you think it’s not actual news? GB News is available.

What would happen to the poor lady with a brain tumour if her sister leaves? The UK has not had proper immigration controls for many years.

Sorry but I do not care she has broken the law

surreygirly · 12/12/2025 09:18

It is beyond me that anyone thinks this is acceptable
Anyone knowingly employing these people should face a prison sentience of no less that 10 years
The people should be removed and never allowed back into the UK

AlloaintheMiddle · 12/12/2025 09:12

PopcornPoppingInAPan · 12/12/2025 08:03

I’m certainly not going to defend the behaviour of obnoxious British tourists or claim it’s not an issue.

But it’s baffling that you don’t think there’s a difference between this and immigrants who overstay visas/otherwise stay in a country illegally - who work cash-in hand, don’t pay taxes, may claim benefits, may well put huge pressures on the public purse in terms of the legal and administrative costs of immigration appeals and on the NHS.

Feel free to start your own thread about out the obnoxious Brits abroad (who may well be net contributors to your country’s economy, not that that’s a defence to the obnoxious behaviour and any damage they cause)!

So illegal immigrants now have a right to be interviewed on TV? It’s an absolute disgrace. Sky News was in the presence of criminals and they just shrugged and encouraged them to stay.

Which particular law are you referring to which gives illegal immigrants the right to be interviewed on TV?

icannot have you never watched the news or a documentary before? They interview criminals all the the time. Many of them are far more dangerous than these people over staying a visa.

Usually members of the former government, and the press spends a lot of time interviewing the convicted fraudster Donald Trump.

Yeah that's the logical upshot of this. Sky interviewing them has bestowed upon all illegal immigrants the right to be interviewed on TV.

And if the tv companies don't interview them it's a beach of their human rights.

And you go to jail if you even text someone privately that you're proud to be British

Everyone has a right to be interviewed for any reason. It's up to the media to decide if they want to report it.

And how are sky encouraging them to stay? They don't pay for interviews. Journalists don't.

Westfacing · 12/12/2025 08:25

I didn't see the programme.

OP, I can't work out why you are so cross with Sky News!

What's wrong with showing how broken the system is, the pull factor of once people are here it's very easy to work illegally, and how this has gone on for years?

If immigration isn't news I don't know what is!

It’s likely a condition of the interview.
