"We're pregnant"

I hate it so much. No he isn't pregnant. Not even a bit. Yes he's going to he a father. He's expecting a baby. His partner is pregnant. How lovely that he's excited about it. What an amazing dad he's sure to be, but he is absolutely not pregnant!

I'm as grumpy as a middle-aged woman can get but this one really pisses me off. Pregnancy is a uniquely female experience. Why the fuck do men need to lay claim to it?

Do they experience morning sickness? Worry about the effects of the pregnancy on their career and earning potential? Be judged by all and sundry if they decide to have a thimbleful of wine or a slice of smoked salmon? Go through the risks and pain of childbirth?

Is it just me? (I expect so!!)

This type of couple also "welcome" the baby rather than the woman giving birth. I absolutely despise the phrase. It completely erases the hard work a woman goes through in labour.

Exactly. Conception is fairly equal. Parenting can be (sadly often isn't) equal. Pregnancy is a woman/mother only venture.

I always think of the woman doing more of a complicated process to even get pregnant. Any man can ejuculate and dont 'suffer' with periods etc....

Jesus fucking Christ.

I'd ask what elimination communication is, but I think my blood pressure's had enough for one thread!

It's when you don't use nappies and i stead constantly monitor your kid for signs of wanting to go. Incredibly labour intensive for mum.

But same as being a 'little bit pregant' a person is either pregnant or not

No it isnt the same imo.

I agree that "a little bit pregnant" is bloody stupid. But heavily pregnant I feel is a more physical descriptor of how the woman feels (or at least I felt), she is literally lugging around a heavy load. The baby, the placenta, the waters plus any extra weight. Its HEAVY! So yes I think that heavily pregnant is ok.

bizkittt · 12/12/2025 04:44

Yeah let’s ignore the vessel

I always take something for the mum along with a new baby present and make a point of giving them some attention (and a well done) and not just goo-gooing at the baby (although there is a bit of that as well).

ItsNotMeEither · 12/12/2025 04:55

It’s just so cringeworthy. I’d never say anything to someone about it in real life, but I’m thinking it and judging.

PollyBell · 12/12/2025 04:50

bizkittt · 12/12/2025 04:44

Yeah let’s ignore the vessel

You mean different to ''you are just the sperm donor it is my baby you have no say''

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 12/12/2025 04:45

Omg I know.

bizkittt · 12/12/2025 04:44

PollyBell · 12/12/2025 04:29

Isnt it the baby that should be getting the attention?

Yeah let’s ignore the vessel

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 12/12/2025 04:43

What about "little man"? It's a bit creepy. Makes it sound like an old man 18 inches tall. Enough to give me nightmares.

NewNameforThisPost2025 · 12/12/2025 04:40

PollyBell · 12/12/2025 04:29

Isnt it the baby that should be getting the attention?

The mother deserves her gargantuan contribution to be RESPECTED and NO the baby shouldn't be getting ALL the attention! Expectant and postpartum mothers should be nurtured and given attention and have their gift of life acknowledged! Men are utterly useless in that regard - literally ALL they do for the process is get their end away! And I say all this as a post-menopausal woman who never had kids! It's utterly ironic that it's men who are the more respected ones in our society. They're the ones who start wars and commit violence and murder. They take life and we give life! WE should be at the top of the respect ladder, not THEM! Grrrrrrrrr! 😡😡😡😡

Anything to steal the limelight from the mother.

Isnt it the baby that should be getting the attention?

I will give you the BP friendly version......its when you read the signs that the baby is about to poo or pee so they dont need to be nappied. Katherine Ryan, who seriously annoys me at the best of times, did it apparently. Its bollocks. Yes you can predict it because a baby going red and grunting is a fairly big giveaway and they develop a natural routine just as we all do, but its just something smug "more free time than sense" people do to pretend they are better and more "connected" with their baby than the rest of us.

Edited

I have heard it all now. Good God.

"We're pregnant" seemed to start in the US like a lot of these things. I first saw it on US friends and family SM posts

First saw baby showers and gender reveal parties on there too. IRL I have heard of/been invited to 1 baby shower and zero gender reveals

I had one of these in my prenatal class. But worse because ‘we’ didn’t even want G&A. Poor wife had cascading interventions and a CS eventually.

‘We’ also decided on all natural clothes and toys, elimination communication (FFS) and all manner of bollocks. She looked so utterly miserable. Poor lamb. I hope she left him and they eat McDonalds now.

Jesus fucking Christ.

I hate it too. Also - is your husband babysitting? No he’s parenting his children!!

Have had MIL say this to me. DH piped up and put her straight
