Is our postman a cheeky fucker?

I have just lost 3 stone in weight and decided to buy a new second hand wardrobe through Ebay. I will admit that I have been purchasing a lot of clothes etc.
Our postman keeps commenting to my husband about the parcels arriving on a daily basis. On one occasion he said to my husband "She must have bought the whole shop by now! The other day he said "There were no parcels for a few days, so I thought that things were under control!"
This is not even a postman we have known for many years, he's only been our postman for about 18 months.

I feel annoyed that he thinks that he has any right to comment on my parcels.
He's job is to deliver the mail and keep his opinions to himself.
Is he a cheeky fucker or AIBU?

Bless him 😭 poor postie under the cosh to get Xmas out and his customer getting offended! He’s only making small talk. Stick a tenner in a Xmas card as his tip in repentance

I think you've lost your sense of humour with your weight loss 😁 it's a joke just incase you need it explaining to you.

WilfredsPies · 11/12/2025 12:04

I wouldn’t like this at all. ‘Under control’? It smacks of misogyny and if you can’t see that, and think it’s all just a bit of banter, then you need to start looking a bit closer and engaging your critical thinking skills. He might not give a shit what’s in your parcels, but he’s willing to pass comment on the little woman’s spending habits with the man of the house? Nah, fuck that.

We have a local, regular Evri courier and she’s fantastic. She’s friendly, she’s chatty, she likes having a laugh with her customers and, weirdly enough, she’s managed to be all of those things without ever once commenting on what I’ve spent, what my DH has spent or how many parcels either of us have delivered.

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 11/12/2025 12:02

Gosh I bet you’re fun at parties 🫠

TrippingOverMyAssets · 11/12/2025 12:01

Well obviously you need to make a formal complaint to his employer so you can potentially get him sacked for misconduct on top of Christmas, after all it’s terrible that someone who delivers parcels for living should notice a sudden change of pattern and then harmlessly comment on it.

Honestly just lighten up. It’s hardly a big deal in the greater scheme of things.

I’m sorry but I don’t agree with the majority of the comments here.
I would absolutely fine and ‘having a laugh’ if the postman was saying these comments to my face, but not to my husband. It’s misogynistic. I love the MN double standards.

Whilst I would be inclined to agree with your sentiment, if it’s the husband answering the door then that’s who the postman will talk to - the person in front of them. If the comments were about op spending his money then absolutely it would be misogynistic but it seems he’s just commenting on the amount of parcels, neither are there any “women and their shopping” type comments.

ChristmasHug · 11/12/2025 11:59

I get loads of parcels and it's often the same guy since he seems to work for every company, ive made occasional self depreciating remarks and he's never once passed comment. Its his job, if he had a cafe and I was going in for coffee 3 times a day he'd love me!

It is really unprofessional of your postie and if you complained I'm sure he'd get into trouble. I wouldn't go that far but
I would expect DH to have shut him up by now.

That clip is soo funny.
We've had such a laugh watching this! Thank you.

It's exactly like that!
I feel that he's having a good look at the parcels and where they're coming from
and then making his comments.
I suppose that it's not helped by the fact that another neighbour referred to him angrily and in a clipped tone as "a gossip".
He does seem to spend a to of time talking to neighbours on his round.
Also, he told my husband that the lady who used to live here before us used to get a cake delivered every week and never gave him a slice LOL!

I’m a private person and would find this intrusive. Also it’s not really witty is it, if it was that would be different but it’s just rather dull and slightly unprofessional

Wexone · 11/12/2025 11:52

Sweet lord he only having the crack with ya 😝my postman best in the world and goes above and beyond his job
I buy alot online too and the rare time my husband gets a parcel he makes a huge deal about it 😂not for you this time wexone this is for Mr Wexone

Happyjoe · 11/12/2025 11:51

I had the same when I revamped my wardrobe a couple of years ago, spent a fortune! Postie remarked to DP that my better half must be very generous with his money to 'allow' me to order so much. My bloody money and no permission needed!

itbemay1 · 11/12/2025 11:50

Ours is hilarious. He goes through all the post - this one’s for Mr itbe, looks important, oh this one’s for Miss itbe ooh it’s from xx shop wonder what she purchased. This one’s for you! It’s HMRC oh dear let’s hope it’s a rebate etc etc…!

Everanewbie · 11/12/2025 11:49

Onwards the push to a humourless, sterile world.

thisoneiscalledbluebellsinpastels · 11/12/2025 11:48

OP- I used to order so many parcels that I knew the home address of my Evri delivery driver and would pop in to pick them up at times as coincidentally he lived round the corner from me.

The best thing is to laugh along with it. eg "You think this is a lot?- you should see the delivery truck coming later!" or "and these are all for me, I havent even started on Christmas yet!" with a wink etc

If it's just banter he will laugh along with you and if he's being deliberately cheeky it shows that his comments havent bothered you int he slightest. Either way it's a win/win.

People cant insult you if you agree with them and make it into a joke

Timebudda · 11/12/2025 11:47

Grow up and have a laugh.
My mail man said similar to me but I was buying book.
He once said you must have a whole library going on indoors.
Nothing for you for a week now I'm back.
Its breaking my arms carrying all these for you.
Any good reads so far.
etc etc.
Its just small talk banter.

Bigtreeesss · 11/12/2025 11:30

Furious & having words, might as well just jump to ltb 🤣

She should get her ducks in a row, pronto.

ClimbEveryLadder · 11/12/2025 11:43

I’m with you OP, he shouldn’t be commenting on your post and I believe this is against their code of conduct and training he’ll have received. Your DH should be shutting down this ‘banter’

Catpiece · 11/12/2025 11:41

I wouldn’t care less. One of our postmen said to me “you been slagging me off?” I said “what you mean?” He said the householders were asked to do a survey and my door number moaned about him. I said “nope”. Nutter. Bollocks to him.

workdilemma123abc · 11/12/2025 11:41

HerVagestyTheQueef · 11/12/2025 11:06

He’s trying to be friendly and establish a relationship and rapport with his “clients”.
Maybe ill-judged in this case, but I doubt he thinks twice about you once he’s closed your gate.

i love your username :D

Clicle · 11/12/2025 11:41

Our local Evri delivery guy used to do this to me when I'd been ordering a lot of stuff. It was just a laugh, he was being friendly and good natured.

We have a different delivery guy now and I quite miss the old one.

GAJLY · 11/12/2025 11:40

It's just a joke! He doesn't really care about the parcels, just making small talk. His job is posting in all weather's, please don't complain. He's just trying to lighten his day by socialising while he can, as he works alone. Mine told me last week that I looked cosy drinking my tea in the kitchen! He must have looked in on his way to the door! I just laughed because he was making small talk. It was freezing, he looked so cold, and just wanted a chat.

Francestein · 11/12/2025 11:38

I think he’s being a bit misogynistic speaking about you to your husband like this. I would probably mention that without people like you, he wouldn’t have a job.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 11/12/2025 11:37

*His job
he’s = he is

Yes the postman shouldn’t be commenting but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 11/12/2025 11:37

I doubt he really gives a shit. We have the same delivered driver a lot, he is always smiling, adding some light comments about my spends habits, I'll give him a tip on the last Christmas delivery.
