Is our postman a cheeky fucker?

I have just lost 3 stone in weight and decided to buy a new second hand wardrobe through Ebay. I will admit that I have been purchasing a lot of clothes etc.
Our postman keeps commenting to my husband about the parcels arriving on a daily basis. On one occasion he said to my husband "She must have bought the whole shop by now! The other day he said "There were no parcels for a few days, so I thought that things were under control!"
This is not even a postman we have known for many years, he's only been our postman for about 18 months.

I feel annoyed that he thinks that he has any right to comment on my parcels.
He's job is to deliver the mail and keep his opinions to himself.
Is he a cheeky fucker or AIBU?

I would find this funny and tell him he’d better hope I don’t stop buying stuff or he’ll be out of a job. He’s only trying to have a laugh with you. My postman is a miserable git, I would love a postie like yours I can actually have a chat to.

WildFlowerBees · 11/12/2025 17:09

I told our postie the reason I order so many parcels is so I can get my actual mail as they no longer prioritise letters. Have a joke with him, life’s too short he’s just thinking he’s being funny not judging your shopping.

Ponderingwindow · 11/12/2025 17:02

I’m disabled and get almost everything in my life delivered. I also need specialty medical supplies and household items that are not available in brick and mortar stores. I got 6 parcels yesterday. This wasn’t even that unusual of a day.

im not that much of an outlier in my neighborhood. Online shopping is common. You can watch the delivery trucks literally stop at almost every house on the street some days.

your mail carrier has it easy if you have just been buying more clothing lately.

Ah, it was a joke and some of us just didn’t understand it. Great. Perhaps you could explain it? Which bit of it are we supposed to find funny? Was it the bit where he implied he’d thought that the OP’s husband had managed to get her ‘under control’? Was that the funny bit?

No where did OP say the postman said anything about her DH having her under control, she said he said ‘things were under control’. He was obviously joking about the amount of parcels, when we do a lot of something sometimes people have a problem, this case maybe a shopaholic and because there’d been no parcels he thought things were under control, could be that OP now has her shopping addiction under control, he didn’t mention anything about her DH having her under control…… so yeh if you take it for what it is it’s a joke… not the funniest but still a joke

BeanQuisine · 11/12/2025 16:51

Well, looking at the results, 77% think you're being unreasonable and I'm inclined to agree.

He's being cheeky but he's not being a cheeky fucker. There's a difference.

WilfredsPies · 11/12/2025 16:34

Coconutter24 · 11/12/2025 16:24

Saying things are under control was clearly a joke

What I mean by this is I’m shocked by large numbers of seemingly intelligent women who don’t see any issues with the OP’s postman making comments like this to her husband and who are telling her to calm down, or suggesting that she gets a sense of humour because ‘it’s only a bit of banter’. It’s shocking to me that these women are happy for us to regress backwards, like they think sexism isn’t a thing anymore.

This. ^ This thread is batshit. So many posters telling the OP to 'get a grip,' to 'lighten up,' and 'unclench,' and claiming she's miserable, and she has no sense of humour, and there have been some nasty remarks too.

I refuse to believe anyone who says they would not get annoyed by this. It WOULD get annoying, every fucking time he comes to the door he makes the same inane, dull, unfunny comment. 🙄

As has been said, the odd comment now and again, is fine, but when someone keeps repeating the same shit over and over again, thinking they're hilarious, it gets tedious and annoying. In my experience, people who continually come out with the same comments about a particular thing over and over again, and keep repeating the same unfunny shit, often don't have a high I.Q.

Sam9769 · 11/12/2025 12:27

I can see the funny side but it was the comment about thinking that things were now under control that got to me!

Saying things are under control was clearly a joke

Zov · 11/12/2025 16:16

HeadyLamarr · 11/12/2025 15:01

Lost any sympathy with that comment. There is no hierarchy of getting healthier. However anyone does it is fine. It's the outcome that matters.

Specifying that you did it 'no jabs' is small minded and implying you are better than others who used jabs.

Now THAT is an overreaction. Anyone who loses weight without the weight loss jabs SHOULD be proud of themselves.

Sounds like you're projecting.

@Sam9769 Bloody well done on your weight loss. I have lost weight this year too, not as much as you - about a stone and a half - but I have also done it WITHOUT THE WEIGHT LOSS JABS. I am proud of myself too. And why shouldn't someone be proud of losing weight without using the jabs? It's much harder to lose weight without them. As I said @HeadyLamarr it sounds like you are projecting.

@Sam9769 I have a great sense of humour but wouldn’t be amused by your postman either. He should be getting on with his job and keeping his personal comments to himself

Do NOT annoy your postman or make him unhappy - Apparently £millions of parcels go missing. I myself did not get over £300 worth of stuff - never arrived.

Everything is electronically tracked, your postie can’t just take your parcels or make them “lost”

SparkleSpriteDust · 11/12/2025 15:57

Banter innit?

Sassylovesbooks · 11/12/2025 15:57

He's trying to be funny, as in humourous! He's not trying to offend you or your husband! When I moved back to my parents after a relationship break-up, I opened the front door to our postman who was only a few years older than me (so probably very early 30's), and he said 'Morning sexy, you look gorgeous'!!! I was so shocked, I stood there doing goldfish impressions!! 🤷

My dp is a postie.... He's always chatting to his customers, they absolutely love him.

It sounds like a bit of banter, but I can also why it's getting on your nerves. And I doubt he'd say that to man. But when you do the same round day in and day out you get to know your customers, who has a lot of parcels (me!), where they like them left, and who's up for a bit of banter. Your husband has obviously responded the first time, and now it's become a thing the postie has picked up on. Just get your husband to ignore him or say something.

Alternatively, RM is busier than ever. This is my dp's 3rd Christmas as a postie, and it's the busiest ever. So your postie may be hoping that you've finished clothes shopping!!

He should be grateful that RM is busy

Goldwren1923 · 11/12/2025 15:53

He needs to shut up and mind his own business. His comments are rude.

Summerunlover · 11/12/2025 15:47

Oh bore off he is having a laugh. My postman just grunts at me.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 11/12/2025 15:15

The banter police have arrived. You must be fun. Try laughing.

What exactly is the OP supposed to be laughing at? I don't think it's highly offensive (although there is a tinge of misogyny in the postman's comments), but they're really not remotely funny.

tara66 · 11/12/2025 15:45

Boomer55 · 11/12/2025 15:44

Chill - I’ve lost 7 stone since my DH died a couple of years ago. I’m having to buy clothes a lot as my weights gone down.

It’s a standing joke between my regular courier and me. 😉

Americano75 · 11/12/2025 15:41

That's some pretty shit 'banter'.

Yamahahaha · 11/12/2025 15:37

Why do people keep writing "humor"?

I think this might have been mildly amusing the first time, but would get old pretty fast.

WilfredsPies · 11/12/2025 15:27

Bambamhoohoo · 11/12/2025 14:52

But what do you actually mean by this? OP can tell him she’d like him to stop making jokes to her husband. She hasn’t done that. What else can she do?

it’s so trivial to get worked about up about something but only online- what’s the point? Unless she’s going to take action it’s a waste of emotional energy (which is, as we all know, the exhaustion of women in our world)

What I mean by this is I’m shocked by large numbers of seemingly intelligent women who don’t see any issues with the OP’s postman making comments like this to her husband and who are telling her to calm down, or suggesting that she gets a sense of humour because ‘it’s only a bit of banter’. LBFseBrom · 11/12/2025 15:16

Just ignore. Some 'customers' like the cheeky chappie approach from a postie, others don't. If neither you or husband engage with him, just smile and say, "Thank you", he'll pipe down.
