To be so embarassed! Said sex instead of 6

I feel so embarrassed. I called the estate agents to tell them I sent my ex-husband six emails but he’s not responding. It sounded like I said “sex” instead. I quickly corrected myself and said, “Sorry, six.” Now I’m worried the lady will think it was something inappropriate and report me, even though it was an innocent mistake. English isn’t my first language, and I feel so awkward and embarrassed. I’m really scared.

😳😳 Sometimes when I read posts on Mumsnet I think I must have slipped into the twilight zone.

Me and you both

So what?
I believe Scottish people do that.
I'm not British born and some sound like that to me. 😁

noidea69 · 10/12/2025 10:08

Yeah best thing you can do really is say goodbye to your loved ones and turn yourself in a the police station. Admitting will probably get you a lighter sentence so maybe you'll be out in 10 years.

Thank you so much everyone for helping and for sharing your own stories. I thought she might misunderstand it and think I was thinking about sex when speaking to her, not that I was saying I sent my ex “sex emails.”

And you thought she might report you to the police for thinking about sex? What would the charge be?
Blimey, most of the country would be in prison if that was an offence!

3luckystars · 10/12/2025 10:05

It’s not a banned word that we are not allowed to say?

AnotherDayDawns · 10/12/2025 10:05

You're "really scared"??? Don't be ridiculous

3luckystars · 10/12/2025 10:04

Why would someone tell the police that you said the word sex?

Yes you've already said this. You're being ridiculous.

BauhausOfEliott · 10/12/2025 09:59

OP, I've heard a radio presenter who was introducing 'Jeremy Hunt, the Culture Secretary' accidentally call him 'Jeremy Cunt', so I don't think you need to worry about accidentally saying the word 'sex'. I doubt they even noticed.

marmitegirl01 · 10/12/2025 09:59

I was taking about my WFH day with my manager ( I plan one day a week) I meant to say my day at home and called it my day off ! 🫣
I do work when I’m at home honest!!

cakeinthecakehole · 10/12/2025 09:57

I once ordered sweet and sour penis instead of sweet and sour chicken in a Chinese takeaway in Spain 😆

This is preposterous.

For f s sake
Utterly ridiculous

Kokonimater · 10/12/2025 09:53

It’s not illegal to send sex emails anyway

MrBiscuits24 · 10/12/2025 09:52

This made me giggle, god how embarrassing but also they won’t care and probably giggled about it later anyway. It’s ok to slip up.

Yes? And you think thinking about sex is somehow a crime?

ForZanyAquaViewer · 10/12/2025 09:50

AHsiao · 10/12/2025 09:39

Her thinking I was insinuating something sexual and reporting me to the police, when I actually wanted to say “six.”

Reporting you to the police for what, exactly? What crime do you feel you may have committed? As I can assure you that crime doesn’t exist.

Is everything okay, OP? For most people, this would be a mildly amusing anecdote, but you appear genuinely worried about something.

Tighteningmybelt · 10/12/2025 09:49

Call 101 and log it. Best to be honest in these situations. You don’t want to be looking at a ten year stretch when you could just cough up ang maybe only get 8.

😁

She probably didn't even notice mate, there's so many different accents in the UK it won't have even registered. Why on earth do you think she'd call the police?

GlitzAndGigglesx · 10/12/2025 09:47

You're being really dramatic. The estate agent probably won't even remember come bed time

ProfessorInkling · 10/12/2025 09:47

“Hello, 999?
A customer just told me she sends her ex-husband sex emails. What should I do?”

My sister has a lovely Broom plant and I wanted one so I went to the garden centre and tried to impress the lady by using the Latin name Cytisus. I wondered why she looked oddly at me when I asked if she had any Cystitis plants. 😬😳
