To be so embarassed! Said sex instead of 6

I feel so embarrassed. I called the estate agents to tell them I sent my ex-husband six emails but he’s not responding. It sounded like I said “sex” instead. I quickly corrected myself and said, “Sorry, six.” Now I’m worried the lady will think it was something inappropriate and report me, even though it was an innocent mistake. English isn’t my first language, and I feel so awkward and embarrassed. I’m really scared.

Oh I once sent a company wide email reminding people to apply for free eye tests and accidentally put ‘teats’. My manager made it worse by saying maybe my mind went to that because my dress was a bit low cut, and then he went puce!

He was mortified but we all laughed and I resolved to not wear that dress to work again!

Her thinking I was insinuating something sexual and reporting me to the police, when I actually wanted to say “six.”

You're allowed to send sex emails to your husband, some people even recommend it 😁
Please don't worry, at worst you have brightened someone's day

notwoke · 10/12/2025 12:07

Surely it will just be the best laugh she's had all week? We're not living in Iran.

Saying the word sex isn’t a crime so the police wouldn’t be in the least bit interested.

Did she even notice you said the wrong word? Did she sound at all upset?

I think you are massively overreacting and perhaps need some professional help for anxiety.

HowTheHellDidWeGetHere · 10/12/2025 12:05

Oh OP sorry but this is so amusing 😁😁😁 Thanks for brightening up my day all!

YABU to worry.

I once had a man giving me his postcode and for W he had ‘wankee’. They said “I don’t mean wankee - or wanking”. Then we both burst out laughing, and moved on. It still makes me laugh

I once signed off on an email to a senior consultant colleague 'kind retards' instead of regards. I was mortified, he either didn't notice or graciously didn't mention it!

Oh no!!! 😳😂

RocketPanda · 10/12/2025 11:51

Don't get stressed about it at all.
I once fucked up the the words 'familiarise yourself with the clear criteria' and came out with ' familiarise yourself with the clear clitoris' to a room full of senior management. I didn't even get a warning, just raucous laughter.

smallsilvercloud · 10/12/2025 11:48

English isn’t your first language, they would have just put it down to your accent and not thought anything of it.

Elsvieta · 10/12/2025 11:44

Pretend you're German.

Timebudda · 10/12/2025 11:40

What as the world come to, if people are getting stressed and worried about a slip up.

You're completely, irrationelly overthinking!

Pinkosand · 10/12/2025 11:34

I would say even if english was your first language they would just accept this as a silly mistake. As english is your second language, I'm certain they will just think this is a silly mistake.

HoppingPavlova · 10/12/2025 11:34

They will just assume you are a Kiwi, no probs.

Friendlyfart · 10/12/2025 11:30

why would anyone report you to the police? Is this what would happen in your own country? We all love an innuendo here!

I once inadvertently in my turn of phrase insinuated my then-boss had had a sexual encounter with the

CEO. Obviously it’s not what I meant at all but we were all hysterically laughing as the more I tried to explain what I meant, the worse it sounded.

Why would the police get involved- they’ve got bigger things to deal with and you haven’t committed a crime.

AHsiao · 10/12/2025 11:29

Thank you so much for those helpful comments. I’ve had a right giggle at some of the stories shared, honestly, it made me feel a lot better. 💐

I come from a completely different culture where sex is an extremely taboo subject. It’s not even a topic that can be openly discussed with a partner or spouse, let alone with anyone else. Even saying the word “sex” is considered completely unacceptable. To some, it may seem like I’m exaggerating; however, please understand that my background is very very different from that of many others.

Eh?

hididdlyho · 10/12/2025 11:11

I think Starmer 'sausage' clanger is far more random and embarrassing than your slip of the tongue OP. At least ex, sex and six are related words so I can understand how someone may get those letters jumbled.

LochSunart · 10/12/2025 11:10

I was a secondary school teacher. I was once dismissing a class, probably 13/14-year olds, and a lad was messing about, so I told him to get a move on. He said, "Two secs, sir," and I replied, "No secs."

Now that's embarrassing.

I was WhatApping with my daughter and after a while she said 'Got to go now and wank John [not his real name!] . Obviously should've been 'wake'. Autocorrect have a lot to answer for !!!

MLMsuperfan · 10/12/2025 10:57

I once sent a message to a new manager where I work which read "Are you busty?" Thanks auto correct!
