Christmas card from neighbour..

Ive received a card from our neighbours two door down and it states all,the family’s name. To NewandBlue and husband from Pam, Pete, then also has their two adult children names on with their partners and kids names?

As it’s only Pam and Pete that are our neighbours I can’t see the point in putting all the families names on the card. Am I unreasonable?

OP posts:

A waste of ink? Come on, OP. What a silly post.

No, not new to the street. There are a lot of neighbours and their children’s and partners names (and their little ones names) so quite long to write!

It seems a bit pointless to me, also I don’t know their family.

My neighbours a few doors away sent one and included the names of their cats. I sent one to the neighbours, and one especially for the cats, 'allowing' them to show it to 'their humans' if they wanted to.
I don't really celebrate Christmas, but it seemed a nice/fun thing to do. The humans loved the gesture! (the cats didn't comment) 👍🐱

They'll be writing on autopilot, accept the nice gesture

This.
I write the same message in a bunch of cards, once they’re done, I then put them in envelopes and write the names / addresses on the envelopes. None of them are bespoke.

NancyMitfordsLeftGlove · 10/12/2025 07:50

What a thing to start a mumsnet thread about.

Cardomomle · 10/12/2025 07:49

"waste of ink"
😂
Merry Christmas to you too! 🥳

Apricotafternoon · 10/12/2025 07:47

It's a Christmas card - why do you care so much to post on here? Haven't you got much else to think about?

EstherGreenwood63 · 10/12/2025 07:46

It IS weird OP. Definitely.

TinselAndSparkles · 10/12/2025 07:46

You’re a grinch.

BeaLola · 10/12/2025 07:45

Probably not as weird as me writing my Dads card from him to my best friend and her family and posting it for him, the best friend he hasn't seen in 20 years and who I'm meeting next week- but my Mum always sent her a card and so my Dad continues the tradition (only I now write it etc as he can hardly see)

The things that people start threads about honestly

NewandBlue · 10/12/2025 07:03

Eh?

Just trying to think of reasons this is enough of a deal to warrant a mumsnet post. I don't think I would pay it nearly that much attention, personally.

The only reasons I can come up with are:

a) you want to receive more cards or
b) you want to sell more cards

38thparallel · 10/12/2025 07:42

Maybe it would be simpler if everyone just wrote “to you all - from all of us”.

Eenameenadeeka · 10/12/2025 07:38

It's just a Christmas card, it's not that deep.

iSage · 10/12/2025 07:38

I expect they've signed all their 'acquaintance' Christmas cards like that - probably had a pile of them, went through them, signed, signed, signed on autopilot rather than considering for each card what combination of their names to put on it.

This is such a stupid post. Sometimes when you have a thought, just keep it in your head, this is one of those things that absolutely doesn't need a group consensus.

It’s not stupid @JudgeBread ! This is trauma!! I mean ops had to start a thread about it!!
can’t believe nobody’s suggested to log this with “111”…. 😵‍💫🥹

You'd hate our neighbours, OP. They put their dogs' names on the cards too. But then the dogs do live there, so.

Our NDNs are friends as well as neighbours and we do dog walks together. Obviously the dogs' names are included on the cards. My dog waits in front of their door for the dogs to come out and yelps with delight when they appear. How could they not be included.

IstillloveKingThistle · 10/12/2025 07:34

Genuinely. You can’t be serious?
Of all the issues , worries and concerns that people have every single day, and you post this?
In the nicest way possible: you need to wake up and smell the coffee.
And equally - count yourself lucky that this is all you have to worry about.
🙄

ChubbyPuffling · 10/12/2025 07:33

I quite like it... we have a cul-de-sac of 10 houses... over the 35 years we've lived here, people have come and gone, kids have been added, grandkids, pets, in a couple of cases elderly parents have been added and gone.
Perhaps they are having a joyful houseful for the holidays.

AgnesMcDoo · 10/12/2025 07:31

If ever there was an example of massively overthinking this is it

sonoonetoldyoulifewasgonnabethisway · 10/12/2025 07:28

At least they got your name right, my neighbour 'changed' my name after 7 years living next door. Now I get a card to my husband and some random womans name & family lol. And to make things worse, shes told the other neighbours that's my name and then they all started doing it.

Couldyounot · 10/12/2025 07:28

SatsumaDog · 10/12/2025 07:27

Seems they went to a lot of effort. When we receive cards from neighbours it’s usually signed something along the lines of ‘The Smith Family’, unless it’s just a couple or they are close friends. I’m impressed they are still sending cards. The practice seens to have fallen out of fashion in recent years.

ThePoshUns · 10/12/2025 07:26

Christ talk about overthinking.

I think it's a bit of a minefield once circumstances change. Me and my NDN both have young adult children, hers slightly older than mine. Every year we'd send each other a card with the four names on it. This year her son has moved out and got married. They're not white British heritage and I don't even know their surname, let alone the son's wife's name. Now it's time to send them a card and I'm not sure what to write. It feels weird somehow to leave the son off, as I've always included him, but at the same time it would be weird to write his name and not acknowledge the wife. Do I put all their names and then after the son put 'and wife'? That seems even more odd. They haven't sent me their card yet so I'm unsure what they'll write.

I agree though, odd for them to include the whole family and their children if they don't even live there. I think once the kids move out they should be responsible for their own cards and dropped from the NDN card.

You just put 'To NDN and family'.
