Anyone seen woman arrested for saying f****t in a private text message?

This is completely bizarre. The news is thin on the ground so to see it I would have to link the mail or other obscure sites; but they are talking about this on Sky News abroad so assume it’s legit.

Apparently woman was arrested by 10 officers and dragged naked from a bath tub because she called a person who hospitalised her from assault a faggot in a message ranting to a supposed friend who reported her for using that word.

What is going on in this country?!

Yes sure that’s unpleasant. But is that really illegal? And if she has been hospitalised by this person then do I really care if someone uses bad words - even if they are hateful.

YABU - that’s a perfectly appropriate use of the law
YANBU - WTF is going on in this country!

I can only see this story on a Piers Morgan chat show. Have any news outlets covered it at all? Seems like large parts missing.

If it's only in one news source the other mainstream media attempted to get corroboration and either found it wasn't true, or found that the actual cause of the arrest was that as well as using the naughty word she also made a credible death threat against him or similar.

tripleginandtonic · 09/12/2025 11:44

She contradicts herself, it wasn't a slur it meant something else where she lives and then saying it was down to her brain injuries. Think there will be more to it than has made the media.

ThereAreOnlyShadesOfGrey · 09/12/2025 11:43

I give it 24 hours until social media catches up with her and the real facts about her are revealed.

Dollymylove · 09/12/2025 11:36

The MSM won't report stuff like this. For obvious reasons I wont enlarge on that, I don't want a jail sentence.
There may be more to it but I wijld suggest that dragging a naked female out of a bath by 10 officers is massive overkill unless she is armed and has dangerous weapons jn the house

It probably didn’t happen.

Shedmistress · 09/12/2025 11:40

A woman in posession of a mouth and using words in the dictionary IS the dangerous weapon...is it not why the Taliban have stopped girls from attending school? Don't want them females getting ideas above their station and using words they don't like.

"Convinced" of what.

We used to have free speech in this country. Which included the freedom to offend. What is happening these days is very scary. Combined with the attempt to restrict the use of juries, which seem to be the only thing stopping the state completely controlling what people can and cannot say.

She was convicted under the communications act. The slur was an aggravating factor.

I agree the proposed restriction of juries is problematic, but I don't agree that people should be allowed to go about being homophobic, sexist or anything similar under the name of 'free speech'.

I think she meant convicted.

But this is clearly a click/rage bate thread based on very few facts.

There is 100% no way that this woman was dragged naked from the bath and arrested over the use of one word in one text message. And anyone who believes that’s what happened is frankly an idiot.

But then what do you expect from people whose preferred news sources are Peers Morgan and the daily mail.

I think you should be able to call someone a faggot without being arrested for it,
I don’t like the word particularly, but if we arrest people for saying faggot, where does it end? When I call Keir Starmer a vanilla wanker? When I call Farage a white cunt?

Hate speech is such a road to hell

Agreed.

Clearly what she said is a criminal offence given that she was convinced.

Acafan · 09/12/2025 11:33

What she did is illegal. It's malicious communications under the terms of the 1988 act, because it's grossly offensive and it caused distress to the recipient, and the offense is made more serious because the language is homophobic. It's no defence that she didn't know it was a crime. FWIW, she plead guilty, from what I can understand of the reporting.

It doesn't matter if we don't care about this particular case: we accept that everyone in the country has to follow the law.

It doesn't actually matter for the purposes of the offense that she was allegedly assaulted by the man she's describing - though that's obviously awful. The recipient of the message reported it to the police and the police and CPS took action. If they haven't prosecuted the assault, that's a separate matter.

Snowonground · 09/12/2025 11:29

"There is no justification for her using homophobic language. She could have called him a wanker, said she hated him etc, why jump straight to homophobia?"

I don't agree with homophobia. But I also dont agree with this recent fetish of people monitoring other people's language and requiring them to "justify" themselves. We are talking about something that is either a criminal offence (in which case it is illegal) or not a criminal offence (in which case people can use whatever words they chose).

Clearly what she said is a criminal offence given that she was convinced.

The IB Times is notoriously problematic in terms of credibility.

The DM article makes no mention of what you claimed in your OP.

Yeah I agree the coverage is poor. I am going to watch Piers Morgan and report back.

I've read a little about this, but the information is pretty sparse.

If he assaulted her he should have been arrested and she should have been given justice for sure.

There is no justification for her using homophobic language. She could have called him a wanker, said she hated him etc, why jump straight to homophobia? Especially with someone that she doesn't know well, as they reported her (I think it was a colleague, but details are vague so that may not be true).

On the face of it, from the little that's in the press, it seems very heavy handed, but they clearly had justification for it or that amount of officers wouldn't have been approved in the first place.

From what I can gather the details have been put out by her and her friends so it's going to be very bias reporting.

KimberleyClark · 09/12/2025 11:29

I don’t see what being gay has to do with his having assaulted her. If I had been assaulted by a man gay or otherwise I would call him a lot of things but a homophobic slur probably would not be one of them.

AgapanthusPink · 09/12/2025 11:29

It’s reported in the down market newspapers and there’s a link to the Daily Mail.

https://mol.im/a/15302729

It appears the reporting is poor because the headline is click bait and less interesting with what I suspect is the truth. Reading between the lines she’s been charged with harassment but because of the use of that word it’s been upgraded to a hate crime and sentenced according to that.

If someone assaulted me I would not be looking to inflame the situation with them. If they are derranged or unhinged how did she think that was going to turn out? Getting in trouble with the police is probably the least bad outcome. She sounds like an idiot that needs to be told to stand the hell down.

Christ.

Yes lets make sure a woman who is attacked is calm and pleasant about the man who attacked her else...10 officers might come and drag her out of the bathtub naked. I mean, it's what she deserved for having an opinion about the man that attacked and hospitalised her.

Whywhywhyyyy · 09/12/2025 11:27

I she is calling someone a faggot to their face in an abusive manner then perhaps that’s abusive.

But to say to someone else who isn’t the individual - I didn’t think that could be a hate crime. No matter how offensive. And that’s without the assault allegation.

ShesTheAlbatross · 09/12/2025 11:27

She was reported by the person she texted, not the person she said attacked her. And the texts were not read out in court so I’m not sure how anyone can say it was an overreaction or not?
She was charged under the malicious communications act because the texts were abusive as well as homophobic and distressed the person she texted.

I saw it on sky news yesterday. And on googling I can find mail and other random sites.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15302729/Assault-victim-convicted-homophobic-hate-crime.html

I didn’t know it had been on Piers Morgan. Might watch that but that’s not going to give ‘any other side of story’ PPs are saying.

The lady's name is Elizabeth Kinney and she was convicted of a hate crime, her attacker was not arrested.

The only places I can find mentioning this are the outrage-bait accounts on X.

Would be prepared to bet quite a bit of money that's not quite the whole story.
