Xmas nostalgia has been bad this weekend - why will someone not bring back mignons morceaux, cheese moments, worcester sauce crisps, cream and cheesy niknaks and those massive KP bignuts

It really is not Xmas without them!

York fruits - jelly sweets with a weird hard capsule of fruity liquid in the middle
jelly orange & lemon slices
Weekend chocolate boxes
Tunis cake and Dundee cake

They have the jelly orange and lemon slices still in some pound land shops

Lidl for both.

I'm not entirely convinced the M&S big mix tin thing actually exists, our local ones have the peppermint bark and some ungodly concoction involving cold popcorn, but the chocolate selection tins are nowhere to be seen.

The M&S tins do exist. I bought some but back in early November and then I had to hunt the shelves every couple of days until I found them.

Thank you, @Elmrosie

I’m interested @Elmrosie!!

Hopefully this is OK to post. The recipe isn’t on her website, I guess she thinks there’s isn’t much call for it these days. Interesting to see metric being provided as an afterthought!

That does explain it, thank you for confirming. Christmas won’t be the same!

I've been looking for these too! Oh well at least I know not to keep looking 😂

Thanks @FFSToEverythingSince2020

St Delia of Norwich (patron saint of Advent and Yuletide) has a recipe for buttered brazils in her original Christmas book, I can post it if anyone’s interested.

I am mourning the passing of Twiglets and am ready to join any protest against the current abominations.

madaboutpurple · 10/12/2025 19:31

Marks and Spencer big mix are far better than any other chocolate. They do tins as well as boxes.

Sortalike · 10/12/2025 18:18

...grumbles...

I get what you're saying about the alternatives to Mignons Morceau BUT I want the teeny tiny nubbly end bit which was like a little rock of garlicky crunchiness.

After Eight sticks, had them the last few years. Can’t find any this year, and don’t like normal After Eights.

Sadly, I can’t find that for you, but I can give you closure.

I've been looking for Maple Brazils and can't find them anywhere! They used to be pretty hard to find, but are now non-existent. Charbonnel & Walker did some (for a price) and Fortnum & Mason did some for an even higher price....But I haven't even seen those this year.
They were my Mum's favourite and I just fancied a few in her memory.

i just want a mignon morceaux

Gardetto’s Garlic Rye Crisps. Not quite the same but if you liked mignon morceaux, it’s about the closest you can get. Or garlic Melba toasts.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/12/2025 20:00

@lookluv I also want mignon morceaux. Soooo garlicky!

You’re in good company- The late Queen loved Charbonnel and Walker!

Garden centres or farm shops are good for these types of things. I was thinking of this thread today walking round a garden centre looking at marzipan fruits, various chocolate/sugar coated nuts, lots of different liquorice (school chalk anyone?), the crystallised fruits with the liquid centres and lots of varieties of bruschetta type crackers.

Chiefangel · 09/12/2025 08:33

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 08/12/2025 22:47

My mum used to make marzipan fruits.

Love the little liqueur chocolates in the bottle shape - I used to buy these for my dad.
I used to like Terry’s All Gold and Black Magic. Mum used to like dark chocolate so I think I got the taste from her. I’ve got an old Black Magic box with sewing stuff in and the fillings it’s showing on there are very different to the ones now. I bought myself a box a year or so back and they were disgusting.

Terry’s All Gold used to have a lemon barrel chocolate that I would bite the top off and ‘drink’ the contents. They were so lovely back in the day.

I googled it and it forgot about these. I remember them years ago.
Philips Fogg (garlicky crouton style) crisps 😋

You can still get those jelly orange and lemon slices in B&M.

And Grape Tree, I saw some on Friday!

Ooh Sobranie cigarettes - thought they were so sophisticated! There were the pastel coloured ones and the black ones. Love coffee creams too.

That brings back a memory of the late 60s. Mother used to have a silver cigarette case and when she and father went to smart parties/functions, she used to colour co-ordinate the fags with what she was wearing. I can see her now saying goodnight, sitting on the edge of my bed, in a deep pink frock and a beehive with matching deep pink little roses in the hair sections. The cigarette case would have contained pink sobranies.

Pastel ones, but Omg, rough as! Like smoking Marlborough red!

I still miss these too. What were they thinking when they discontinued them? 🙁

DM used to get them in for Easter as well
