I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

One of my recurrent dreams is finding a secret room in a new place - attic, extension, cellar ...

Me too! My dreams are positive though, "wow looks at this amazing space that we can use, how am I going to decorate it" rather thank " shit, this is a bleak and scary sex den." I'm so disappointed when I wake up.

Happyher · 08/12/2025 19:21

I put it through google lens and there’s no salacious photos coming up. There are however lots of pics of similar small rooms, there for legit reasons. Ones an Airbnb room! Another is part of a house listing. Maybe some just used it to listen to music

Ohwhatswrong · 08/12/2025 19:09

I keep trying to load the photos but it's not working. I've tried them all and just 1 but it just has the loading circle.

Loving this thread, @Ohwhatswrong
I'm sure it was just office / storage space, but such a cool thread!

Btw I don't know why folk keep asking about a 'full survey' - the COST! Do people still have them in anything that isn't a grand pile? I've got eyes for cracks, a nose for damp, & surveyors won't remove anything to see behind carpets etc anyway!

This is the side, you can see a door to the room at the back

We need to see that pic too! From face on...

I literally just finished reading a book where a family moves into a new house, and the husband finds a secret room. There's an old armchair, a Welsh dresser, etc. in the room. And a bunch of momentos (glasses, wallet, watch, dog collar, etc) inside the dresser, kept by a serial killer, from the victims, who now wants the stuff back!

This is what I thought! I’ve just read this too and this was the first thing that came to mind 😬

Oldartist · 08/12/2025 18:56

I listen to far too many ‘Redhanded’ podcasts to make an objective comment 😳.

It looks super creepy but I reckon it was just an over occupied house where the occupants tried to create an extra space, either as a sleeping space or office space. The chair is just something random left behind. You have no way of knowing what else was kept in there along with it.

Springdaffodils1 · 08/12/2025 18:46

It’s a w**king chair. Definitely somewhere a previous husband stored and enjoyed his porn collection without his wife knowing about it.

KnitFastDieWarm · 08/12/2025 18:44

Crying at fucked up mr tumble!

@Ohwhatswrong are you sure there aren’t any other doors or hatches under the wallpaper?

GasPanic · 08/12/2025 18:41

I am being to feel it may be necessary to build one of these in my loft to creep people out in 50 years time.

There is quite a lot of space up there.

Sunshineo · 08/12/2025 18:39

Do the spotlights come on with the other lights in the loft? Or separate switch?

For the dreamers- dreaming of discovering a secret room in your home is said to represent untapped potential or feelings of discovering something new about yourself (mine is always really organised and tidy and probably represents the part of me that craves being less chaotic!😂).

nomas · 08/12/2025 18:33

I think the chair is one that they didn't know whether to throw out or not.

Throw it out asap.

ilovegranny · 08/12/2025 18:31

I found one in my bog-standard 3-bed semi, just over 100 years old. The landing had a false ceiling to accommodate spotlights, and as we had agreed not to use the loft to store stuff I never opened the hatch. Until we had new wiring and the electrician had to go into the loft…found a second hatch and a fully wallpapered room, carpet, aged computer screens, and cushions. There was also a door leading to the rest of the loft. It didn’t spook me but it did feel weird. He did what he needed to do, shut both hatches, and I’ve put it out of my mind. Until now…

Muffinmam · 08/12/2025 18:31

It’s a storage area. You’re overthinking this.

OMG me too! When I saw the picture that’s the first thing I thought. How very strange. Do people have the same dreams? Love to know, as well, what the “hidden room” dream means.

Judecb · 08/12/2025 18:30

You need to do some research on the history of the house. Previous residents etc. I think the chair is very odd.

Balloonhearts · 08/12/2025 18:29

Shamelessly bookmarking for when the pictures finally upload. It makes you wait a day sometimes before you can upload more.

ThisMellowCat · 08/12/2025 18:26

Call on the old occupant and enquire what they can tell you. Just say you’ve come across it and wondered what it was used for. I bet they’ve never used the attic, some people don’t, so won’t be able to tell you. I think it will be a previous occupant to them.

TanitaTikTokaram · 08/12/2025 18:21

Ohwhatswrong · 08/12/2025 12:45

Coincidence... Maybe not, my husband just got a voicemail from a funeral directors, about him coming to the chapel of rest! They have his name and number but he's never heard of them before!

Oh that will be penny wise. Try not to worry too much 😉

Teddybear23 · 08/12/2025 18:19

Nix99 · 06/12/2025 23:05

Yes, this is very strange. I'd be very intrigued what this was used for especially with just a chair in there.

Torture chamber 🤔

lessglittermoremud · 08/12/2025 18:19

Probably something really boring like a little office and I think there was a desk in front of the chair. We know someone who has made a sort of work space in his loft because he can’t work with the noise in the house.
It isn’t wall papered but similar sort of proportions nearish the loft ladder.
Im claustrophobic so wouldn’t want to do it and when I asked him what he would do if a fire broke out he cheerfully announced he’d hop down the ladder and out the nearest bedroom window.
They couldn’t afford to do a proper conversion so boarded out abit of it and made do!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2025 18:04

Magazines years old. Maybe they had an unwed mother who was put there if people came to the house

To work in private - or could have been one of the children attending online lessons. Bedrooms and shared spaces aren't always suitable.

Ah, I see what you mean - sorry, I misunderstood.

Good point: dealing with conditions because of covid, rather than the virus itself.
