Fell over at work Christmas party

Today is the morning after of a very boozy work Christmas party and I need a good talking to. The day was filled with wine and Prosecco and not much food! I’ve recently started a new team and I’m a few years away from qualifying as a solicitor. I’m 37 and other women in the team are the same age and have children. I’ve sadly had 5 miscarriages - I’ve been asked several if I have kids and why not and it was on my mind that I would be asked last night so probably numbing it with alcohol. The whole team were also really drunk and I remember a vague conversation about children and one the girls pulling me to one side and saying sorry & that she is also struggling to conceive. I also lost my balance on a high stool, slipped and took a solicitor down with me. He’s been really kind and told me to forget about it and don’t worry but I can’t stop panicking. My manager had went home by this point so didn’t see but I am so worried about my unprofessional drunken behaviour. Desperately fighting the urge to text every individual on the team with an apology. Am I wasting my energy on this? I’m hoping people won’t give it an extra thought. Dreading work on Monday….

Solicitors are prolific drinkers, you will fit right in. Don't give it another thought.

babyspicydorito · 06/12/2025 14:06

Nothing worse than someone who got really drunk being overly apologetic afterwards. I’m sure most will have found you funny or had a bit of a gossip - either way just wait until Monday and say “oh wow I don’t know how I got that drunk”. Don’t overthink it - it’s just beer fear. Put a Christmas film on and chill.

officiallybringing · 06/12/2025 14:05

Wait until Monday to see if there are repercussions, if your manager or HR speaks to them be honest, your explanation here will make anyone feel for you. Christmas is particularly hard for those struggling to have children and sounds like you faced a lot of triggers there.

PoorUncleBarry · 06/12/2025 14:02

I promise that you are overthinking this. Everywhere I know that has boozy work parties for Christmas always has the same results; people bragging the next day about how blotto they were. Not even kids, these are adults in their 50s.
Did you steal a traffic cone?
Snog a colleague?
Shag in the disabled loos?
No, so relax.

BillieWiper · 06/12/2025 14:02

It was an accident. Drunk people fall over all the time! Nobody died.

Just forget about it. But is it true you've been drinking a lot for a while now? Do you think you might be using your pregnancy losses as an excuse to drink? Have you sought counselling?

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 06/12/2025 14:00

Do not send texts!! Just spend the weekend sobering up, and style it out on Monday. Realistically, noone gives a monkeys about a trainee who drank too much prosecco and fell over..

winter8090 · 06/12/2025 14:00

At least you didn’t insult anyone!

Smile and tell everyone you had a great time. It’ll blow over.

dottiedodah · 06/12/2025 13:57

Firstly sorry for all your miscarriages .I never understand why professional women need to be asked whether they have DC or not. It's rude and nosy .Regarding your fall from grace at the bar, you wont be the first or last to get drunk at the office party! I would not send texts .Just have a rest from booze over WE and relax .Monday there will have been a few sore heads I would think.Just act normal . It will be yesterdays news!

Indeedcorrect · 06/12/2025 13:57

I thought I recognised this user

posters, this Op is prolific on mumsnet as having a serious alcohol problem that has been on going for years.

this is serious and not a one off

FoxAches · 06/12/2025 13:55

Don't message; it'd make it worse. "Never apologise, never explain."

racierach · 06/12/2025 13:55

I remember a colleague at the time he was a trainee went to a law society do and there up all over the table in front of everyone.
he has now gone on to the president of the local law society. He joked about it at his speech.
style it out. It will he fine.

Indeedcorrect · 06/12/2025 13:53

What’s the relevance of you struggling to conceive?

you got very pissed and slipped off a stool

The whole team were also really drunk

drunk people always recollect it like this 😆

I wouldn’t text them. You’ll just have to style it out on Monday - if they were all really drunk, maybe they won’t remember the details of what happened 🤷🏻‍♀️

Usually a good idea to save getting falling down drunk for nights out with your mates though!

ByPeachPeer · 06/12/2025 13:50

We've all been there (or most of us have) do not worry! I'm sure it's fine. Its a boozy night out and everyone will have been drinking. You have just got the hangover anxiety it'll wear off in a few days and nobody else will be giving it a second thought!

JDM625 · 06/12/2025 13:50

I'm sorry about your losses. We TTC 12yrs and lost 3. We have no living children.
If everyone else was plastered, I doubt they would have noticed and even if they did, might not remember it unless you remind them of it.

One Christmas party, the head of HR was going around the room, sprawling herself across each table yelling out 'Who has some coke?' 😆

ElfAndSafetyBored · 06/12/2025 13:50

Don’t do anything, see if anyone says anything on Monday, then just style it out if they do.

In my (far too considerable) experience even if you’ve made a dick of yourself people just don’t care for long.
