To wait until he comes around for his parcel

It’s not the first time. It’s just ramping up closer to Christmas and I’m annoyed.

Over the last fortnight we have had several parcels for him which he never comes to collect, so me or DH end up taking them over just to get them out the house.

Last Friday DH took one over (I told him not to!) as it had been with us 3 days. I made a point of asking the postman if he gets notified we have his parcels and was told he does.

To my annoyance DD took a parcel for him Monday (she said the postman just passed it to to her whilst half asking /telling and walked off so it took her by surprise) so we now have a huge box in the hall. I am adamant no one is taking it over and if he wants it, he can bloody well walk a couple steps to get it!

Just for context, he is not physically disabled, or elderly. He is always coming and going (we’ve seen him leave and come back to the house several times today, so he could easily have knocked!) I refuse to go hand it to him!

AIBU to just keep it until he comes to get it? I’m being stubborn but he’s taking the piss now and we’re not his personal depot! DH says we should take it over on the weekend if he’s not knocked but I say no or he’ll keep just assuming we’ll bring it to him like his own personal assistants. AIBU?

Why would I have his mobile number? 😭

Ask for it then. Give this as the reason

Halfquarterbag · 05/12/2025 21:48

Throw the next one in the canal.

I always get food deliveries for the flats across the road from me with the same door number. I’ve even bought a sign with my street and number and put it on my gate so they can see they’re about to deliver to the wrong address. Has it worked??? Has it heck they still knock my door.
I’ve said to my dd that from now on I’m going to accept it. I won’t eat it I’ll keep it on the table until having had the phone call about the missing delivery they come back to collect it, until it clicks with them what’s happening and then maybe they’ll actually make double sure that they have the correct address.
I wonder how long it will take them to figure out what’s happening.
Yep I’m that petty.

Accept all deliveries.
Deny all knowledge.
Sell everything on eBay.

🤣

TwinklySquid · 05/12/2025 20:07

My neighbours kept getting my parcels. I put signs up so there was no doubt where my house was. They still got them.

I don’t always get notifications the parcels have even been delivered. So my neighbours run them over to me. I feel awful but don’t know they’ve been delivered. I have also complained to the delivery companies .

Are you sure he’s just not aware they’ve been delivered?

AhBiscuits · 05/12/2025 19:44

I would just drop it round. No skin off my nose.
People love to get het up over non-issues. So he's a bit lazy collecting parcels, so what? Is it really that much of a big deal? You'll be happier if you don't stress about irrelevant shit.

Speckly · 05/12/2025 19:37

I’d put a note through his door saying “There’s a parcel for you at ours but I’m fed up with bringing them round. If you want it, you can come and get it. You have 24 hours before I send it back!” Now that’s truly petty because you’ve gone round to his with the note, but not taken the parcel 🤣

WonsWoo · 05/12/2025 19:37

May I be the first to say ……… Cancel the cheque.

Have you spoken to your neighbour about it?

Tape a clearly visible notice to your gate/door stating that you do not accept deliveries for xxxx xxxx address.....

I agree it's really annoying. We always take in parcels for next door and I always took them round as soon as I saw the car. Then I thought, why, she has a note through the door. She can step straight back out and collect the parcel before they get in front of the tv with her microwave meals. He works away during the week
I didn't take the next parcel round. 5 days later he popped round, apologised for not collecting earlier as he's working away. He said he'd spoken to wife and she does now come round to collect parcels.
New neighbours. Courier dropped parcel in pouring rain in full view of the street and left it. I put a note through their door, took parcel in, dried it out. Didn't collect when they got home. I took it round. Explained about rain, wet parcel etc. Note had been picked up off doormat so I know they had received it. No thanks.
Wont be taking any in for them again.
Still taking parcels for first neighbour now they are collecting them.
Nowt as queer as folk.

I wouldn’t necessarily realize the package was elsewhere. I get nearly 1000 emails a day to my shopping account. I definitely don’t bother opening all of them. I also do almost all my shopping online because of disability and successfully receive almost every delivery. It’s only the very rare parcel that doesn’t make it to my address directly. So it can take a few days for me to realize there is a problem and go hunting for information.

This. He probably doesn’t know he even has a parcel. Hardly anyone leaves cards any more, and I wouldn’t see an email for at least a few days (if at all) as PPs have said. I’m surprised that they are bothering to deliver to a neighbour though, all delivery companies just leave them on the doorstep round here; they rarely even knock so you have no idea it’s arrived, sometimes in the pouring rain. TBH I would just pop the parcels round, it’s neighbourly and you might need something from one day. I find it’s best to help out neighbours either small things and keep them onside. No one needs neighbour bad feeling.

@quietmagic Why do you keep taking the parcels in?

Her daughter was caught on the hop and accepted it. Ffs

ACynicalDad · 05/12/2025 17:53

You say you see him come and go, next time I'd shout that you have a parcel of his clogging up your hall, please come and get it.

my postie says he leaves notes too, he never actually does.
just ask him if he’s getting the notifications in a pointed way,

ensayers · 05/12/2025 17:49

As you have previously delivered them, maybe he thinks that this is the procedure that will happen every time.

To make the situation clear, I'd put a note through his door saying that you have a parcel and it needs to be collected straight away.

I definitely would not be delivering the parcel to him again.

Chonkers · 05/12/2025 17:42

OP, if it is a big box, maybe take it round in a few days for your sake. Obviously don’t take in any more parcels. If however your daughter takes one in again, if it’s small, hold onto it and never give it back.

Chonkers · 05/12/2025 17:41

Bookpage · 04/12/2025 15:05

I think it's really odd, the things that make people cross.

I have safe places set up for all the delivery comanies, but they don't always use them and sometimes go to a neighbour.

Yes, they notify me by email, but I don't often have any reason to check my emails, so sometimes I won't realise a neighbour has my parcel until I start wondering why my delivery hasn't turned up.

Hold onto it or take it round, but dont waste so much energy on it.

If you can’t check your email for delivery updates, maybe online shopping is not for you. You sound like a very irritating neighbour.

How strange to be left wondering where your parcel is and it doesn’t occur to you to check your emails.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 05/12/2025 17:27

I had a parcel delivered on Wednesday but I was at urgent care following a fall down the stairs. Got home no message, no photo, nothing. Seller said go looking round gardens and knocking on neighbours doors. They got told that's not my job.

Neighbour came across earlier with said parcel snd was puzzled why I hadn't collected it. I told her I didn't know. If they'd just let me know where it was I would have collected it sooner. I profusely apologised to my neighbour. She was OK about it your neigh sounds like a pratt.

Bluedenimdoglover · 05/12/2025 17:06

Put a note through his door. Pickup your parcel tomorrow. By the way, we can't accept any more of your parcels in future, you'll need to make other arrangements.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 05/12/2025 14:45

If you have seen him coming and going multiple times today why haven't you just stuck your head out the door and called him over

Lurkingandlearning · 05/12/2025 14:29

This has pissed me off hugely in the past. They’ve known their box was dry and safe, cluttering up my home. They’ve been at home. I can hear them. Yet they feel it’s perfectly fine to leave their crap in my house until they feel inclined to spend that one fucking minute out of their much more important life to come and get it.

Yeah, I can get a bit of rage about things that some people think are fine and dandy. I can also get quite petty.

Please go and knock on his door and tell him that if he wants his parcel he needs to follow you there and then all that long trek to your house to get it or you will smash the fuck out of it with a club hammer.

mondaytosunday · 05/12/2025 14:15

Why accept in the first place? I only accept fur my direct neighbours and they usually have asked if it’s ok ahead of time. My visiting son accepted a large box for a neighbour up the road and it sat there for days. When they came turns out the don’t even live there anymore. Then I kept getting attempted deliveries fur these people but I refused and the guy said that I was down as the alternative address! I’d only met these people when they came to get the first box. I think they got the message.
It’s sad that he took advantage but you should not have accepted any parcels after the first failure to cold t.

Fionasapples · 05/12/2025 14:08

We had a neighbour like this. I started refusing to take his parcels. One day DS took a parcel in, saw the driver post a note through next door, but he didn't come to collect it. I waited a week and then left it on his doorstep.

houseofisms · 05/12/2025 14:02

I used to live at the top of a culdesac where most people work. I was home all day with the car on the drive so delivery drivers always came to me. One Black Friday weekend my hallway was full of huge boxes! After that I only took parcels in for my 2 neighbours and refused to take any for anyone else

Be warned! If you name a safe place and your parcel goes 'missing' from it, the company are not liable. Heard that on tv the other day.

Amazon have sent us pictures of parcels stuck half way in the letterbox.

This is not proof of delivery.

We have a Ring doorbell. (Not used). Parcel disappeared.

It's a known scam - delivery driver nicks. Especially if they are temps. Especially in Black Friday week.

As told to us by.....

.... A professional delivery driver.

After TWO HOURS speaking to Amazon they eventually agreed to refund and send out replacement goods (to half the delivery. The other half was irreplaceable invite only goods).

Lied and said they would resend both items the next day (obviously bollocks when told - was clear the customer service person couldn't be arsed but you can't do shit at that stage)
Only refunded one item.
Then they'd tried to issue a return to get a refund (how can I do this when I have not received the goods?!)

Fuckers.

Unless you put the item THROUGH the letterbox it has NOT been delivered. Sticking it half way through is either your driver nicking it or asking for someone else to nick it out the letterbox.

We are in the house 90% of the week so it grates even more. Item that went missing wasn't supposed to be delivered until next Wednesday.

Don't except the bollocks. They clearly have targets not to issue refunds until you have gone through so many minutes of being asked repeatedly "you have checked X place?", "you have checked with your neighbours?"

No I'm not a scammer. I just wanted my bloody parcel and now have to explain to an 11 year old why I couldn't get the present he wanted because the delivery driver nicked it. Cheers for that.
