To wait until he comes around for his parcel

It’s not the first time. It’s just ramping up closer to Christmas and I’m annoyed.

Over the last fortnight we have had several parcels for him which he never comes to collect, so me or DH end up taking them over just to get them out the house.

Last Friday DH took one over (I told him not to!) as it had been with us 3 days. I made a point of asking the postman if he gets notified we have his parcels and was told he does.

To my annoyance DD took a parcel for him Monday (she said the postman just passed it to to her whilst half asking /telling and walked off so it took her by surprise) so we now have a huge box in the hall. I am adamant no one is taking it over and if he wants it, he can bloody well walk a couple steps to get it!

Just for context, he is not physically disabled, or elderly. He is always coming and going (we’ve seen him leave and come back to the house several times today, so he could easily have knocked!) I refuse to go hand it to him!

AIBU to just keep it until he comes to get it? I’m being stubborn but he’s taking the piss now and we’re not his personal depot! DH says we should take it over on the weekend if he’s not knocked but I say no or he’ll keep just assuming we’ll bring it to him like his own personal assistants. AIBU?

That's really bad - I'd never expect a neigbour to bring me the parcel, I always feel bad enough for inconveniencing them because they had to accept the parcel in the first place.

Just leave it and wait - it might take him a few days to realise where it is. But definitely don't bring it to him.

How kind you are!
After the first time, I’d leave it outside MY front door to be collected or stolen…

Why would I have his mobile number? 😭

Would it not be on the label from the retailer?

katekins · 13/12/2025 14:54

Put it in the garage or shed, when he eventually comes round for it tell him , he'll have to come back later when you've found it, as it's been here so long it's been misplaced 🤣. one of my neighbours does this, but not for days on end

TheLoneRangersHorse · 12/12/2025 10:55

It's coming up to Christmas, so assume the parcels will stop coming so much in a couple of weeks.
I really don't think your neighbour is being purposefully irritating. Go round with the parcel and explain you would prefer him to pick up any parcels at hour house promptly as its causing you to feel a bit put apon.
When you've gone round to give him his parcels in the past did you not mention it would be more preferable for he to come and collect?

OneOliveDuck · 10/12/2025 18:22

Simple...Stop accepting parcels. Once in a blue moon; no problem. If they get through on the odd occasion and he does not collect put a note through his door. If he still does not collect, return to sender. He is using you as a sorting office.

Gossipisgood · 08/12/2025 14:39

If you see him coming & going why not just pop out & say 'we have a parcel here for you come get it please' Explain when he does come to get it the you won't be accepting any more going forward & ask him on the off chance he get's a note through the door saying his parcel is with you, can he collect it straight away. If it's not collected by the end of the day it's delivered you'll be leaving it on his doorstep.

Emlouhar · 07/12/2025 22:08

I think you're being unreasonable. I know I'm in the minority and I don't care, why you all nearly crying over dropping a parcel off? I'd prefer my neighbours never took them on if they're gonna create a big song and dance about it. You want to do someone a good deed by taking in their parcel when they never asked, then you're not happy with they're not licking your arse about it. Just move on with your life, it's not important. Stop making jobs for yourself then being mad no one cares.

SnappyMoose · 07/12/2025 19:29

Everything you do is unreasonable until you speak to him honestly. It's kind of your family to take him his parcels and take them in, and he probably feels grateful and unaware of your seething issues with it. You have a right to be upset, annoyed, etc if they know and are taking the P - but if they don't know, you are just not a nice person. I have people who communicate with me if I do things wrong. Being on the spectrum, I am not always aware of their social expectations of me. It makes a world of difference to be told! GO SPEAK TO HIM and try to remember its Christmas fgs.

LT1982 · 07/12/2025 17:18

YANBU but Ive had several parcels recently that I genuinely didnt know neighbours had as no card was left so he may not know. One was a birthday present which I knew nothing about until a friend asked if Id received it, another I only found out when I tracked online and a third was left on a neighbours doorstep after I received an email from royal mail saying it was left on my porch when I dont even have a porch

Bunny65 · 07/12/2025 16:48

Have you asked the manor partner why they never come to collect them? Tell them they are welcome to come and collect the parcels but you are not delivering them any more and if they don't get them within a month you're donating them to charity.

NoisyMonster678 · 07/12/2025 16:19

Put a sign on your door saying

PARCELS FOR THIS PROPERTY ONLY

Hand written or printed large capital letters.

Make sure your DD is aware she must not take in any parcels for the nieghbour from now on.

If this issue has been going on for some time, contact RM customer services, who should be able to confirm with a yes or no answer, wether a nieghbour has chosen your property to deliver to as a default......They would not be able to say too much due to data protection reasons but this suggestion may give you an idea of what the cause of this is, in which case Rpyal Mail customer services should be able to stop the constant interruptions as you are not a sorting office for your nieghbour.

Hopefully he is a reader of the Mirror, sees their story about this thread and realises what a dick he is!

Pessismistic · 07/12/2025 15:19

Hi op just another pov I e had neighbours doing this and it is absolutely frustrating but my neighbours have informed me they never got the note. I would knock say you have a parcel at ours come get it and we are not taking them again so make alternative arrangements.

I’m surprised so many people think this is reasonable of you. It’s fine for you to decide you don’t want to accept parcels, though I don’t really get why it’s such a big deal to do this. I take parcels for my neighbours both sides whenever I can, and they take them for us. How quickly we each seek our parcels back or return them to each other depends on how urgently we need the item or how much space it’s taking up. No big deal in my opinion, but horses for courses!

I don’t think it’s reasonable to use your neighbour as storage just because you don’t urgently need your parcel. They’re doing you a favour taking it in and when our neighbours do that we get it from them immediately. In the rare event a neighbour forgets we have their parcel or missed the postman’s note, we go round with it. But that’s because it so rarely happens, it’s obviously a mistake. In OP’s case this happens constantly. The neighbour simply can’t be arsed and just wants other people to do the storing and running around for them. It’s taking the piss.

I agree, another example of how selfishness is becoming the norm.

Why would I have his mobile number? 😭

I wouid get his number so you can text to say you have his parcel and can he collect it asap

im happy to take in odd parcel but that’s as neighbours are food and collect or even do the same for me

SusieLaws4 · 07/12/2025 07:08

Get his mobile number and text him you have a parcel and can he collect it as you don't have the space to store it. He'll get the message that he needs to collect it. Don't assume he's psychic and know you're annoyed by it.

salsapasta · 07/12/2025 02:24

I thinking some tomato sauce on the box, maybe some other comdements

Friendlygingercat · 07/12/2025 01:01

If no answer when you suspect he is at home leave the parcels on his door step to be stolen or ruined by the weather, Job done. He will learn.

B1anche · 04/12/2025 14:59

Just don't accept the parcels.

This.

ittakes2 · 07/12/2025 00:05

my missed deliveries do not go to neigbours - this is happening because he’s given them instructions it’s ok to deliver to you when he’s not in

Babyghirl · 07/12/2025 00:02

@fuzzypuffling this happened to my folks aswell, girl down the street had a note on her door deliver to blah blah num, my mum not being well with copd can hardly walk without rushing to the door, some cf about.

quietmagic · 04/12/2025 14:57

I’m willing to keep it forever at this point just to prove a point because yes I am that petty 🤐

I'd take it over and tell him that you will refuse all parcels in the future. Then put a note on your front door to that effect
