Doctor lying on report..

Anon662120622 · 04/12/2025 13:27

So I've sent a very blunt email with threats to report to the ombudsman and GMC after appointment with specialist.. Long story short - Shoulder trauma injury, felt shoulder pop out and tear. Still no improvement after 21 weeks, unable to lift arm out any further than 30 degrees. Extreme impact on quality of life

I've been to multiple appointments and four physio sessions (referred by doctor.) Last one was extremely dismissive and actually lied in the report. Physio wrote a letter suggesting he thought I had a paralysed muscle, muscle wastage and nerve damage. Doctor completely wrote that of as he "doesn't trust that physio" because he doesn't specialise in my kind of injury... Why send me there and waste two whole months then?! He told me I was holding my arm down.. it's completely deformed, as mentioned above, I felt it like pop out and it was instantly lower.

He lied on the report saying
*I could touch my thumb to my lower lumbar spine which was an outright lie. I can't get my arm to rotate backwards at all.
*He noted there was no muscle wastage - my shoulder is pretty much skin and bones, there has definitely been a massive amount of wastage.

  • noted no weakness of rotator cuff. I'd say not being able to lift my arm out any further than 30 degrees indicates a significant amount of weakness?

I've written a complaint email to the pals team noting that I'm going to complain to the ombudsman and GMC and will even go down the legal route if a delayed diagnosis leads to further problems/permanent paralysis.

I asked for a second opinion and they've just booked me back in to see the same doctor.. fastest response and appointment offer I've ever recieved I might add.

Am I being unreasonable to ask again for a second opinion from a different doctor?
I'm still going to attend the one with the same doctor and have said I'm requesting to be able to audio record this next appointment so any discrepancies can be properly noted with no denial. I'm also requesting for the report to be changed.

I believe the reason he said all of the lies as mentioned would be to downplay my injury to avoid having to take the reasonable steps to treat me properly? He referred me to a rehab saying they'd give me a diagnosis on my first appointment and he'd trust everything they say. They phoned to book my appointment and told me that the doctors massively lie and act like they're some kind of miracle workers. They said they're essentially just another physio and they wouldn't be able to give me a diagnosis.)

I've honestly just had enough, I'm going to have to pay to go private.. maybe our NI and Tax should be a thing of the past, or massively dropped as we obviously aren't recieving what it's all advertised to be. 🙄

@Didimag48 Yes, I had one around 4 months ago. It showed burstitis, thinning of the supraspinatus and tendinopathy. I read this from the report sent to my doctor after the appointment I had been to to "talk me through my diagnosis". During this appointment I was told that there was nothing really wrong. I had been told in previous a+e visits that they had suspicions that I had majorly torn one or two of my muscles so my husband questioned this and the doctor said there is tears BUT nothing major. So he had massively downplayed the findings from the mri when I went to see him. I just can't really trust him.

PS Have you had an MRI? You haven[t mentioned it. That should have been done immediately.

Ratatouillenights · 10/12/2025 15:39

Standing up for oneself can be very hard work when being unreasonbly ignored or sidelined.

Alwaysalert · 07/12/2025 23:00

NeedyLemonCat · 04/12/2025 13:43

Have you actually seen a shoulder surgeon or not?

You sound hard work. Good luck with that GMC referral and recording appointments 😂

I do not think he sounds like hard work but like smeone in pain who is fed up of not being given a professional diagnosis by someone actually interested in their chosen medical field. He just wants appropriate treatment. Some Doctors/Specialists/other Medical "Professionals" do lie. Why?? Who really knows.

HevenlyMeS · 07/12/2025 14:27

Yes I completely comprehend & immensely empathise 😢
It's horrendously worrying & deeply distressing how what 1 professional writes, can then have rippling awful affects, because numerous of these people with power, abuse their authority & they're sheep like
Jumping on the bandwagon 😢
Some just presume, that because a so called professional, wrote something, it must be Gospel truth, like it's written in stone
Please keep the faith & continue to have courage & confidence to clear this up
You deserve immensely much better 💚🙏💚

Didimag48 · 07/12/2025 14:20

Retired physio here. Demand to see an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in shoulder injuries. He will send you to a neurologist if necessary to see if you have nerve damage. Keep us posted.

esem · 07/12/2025 13:36

Sorry to say but you will have to go privately to get peace of mind - and get yourself fixed - expensive but its your health and hopefully it will be worth it

Anon662120622 · 04/12/2025 13:34

@JC19827 The physio has done all he can do, there's nothing a physio can do to fix an arm that has no ability to do what they want it to do. He said the should at the minimum offer to do nerve testing to see how buggered they are. I'm told something different every time I'm seen.. impingement, nerve damage, torn rotator cuff, burstitis, tendinopathy, thinning of subscapularis. I honestly have no trust and can't see any light at the end of the tunnel anymore.

Did you not go to A&E for shoulder X-Ray in the first instance - assuming you are in UK?
You would then be given appropriate treatment at A&E and then referred to Orthopaedic Consultant..

I agree the.GMC referral is unlikely to go anywhere unless there is a pattern of behaviour, or an allegation of purposeful dishonesty for an ulterior motive.

Patients are allowed to record consultations with or without the medical staff's consent or knowledge.

x2boys · 04/12/2025 13:37

Yes i agree there is no way a physio would risk their own professional reputation by telling a patient that a Doctor lied.

They'd also often be ok saying this verbally....

I've worked with many physios... I've heard them say in front of patients, that various surgeons were incompetent /dangerous /butchers and encouraging pwtients to complain. They've also saod some choice things about some GPs about referral delays...

Toker · 07/12/2025 10:02

hcee19 · 06/12/2025 09:21

If you do see the original doctor, you would have to ask his permission to record the appointment , it's a grayish area, but it can breach privacy rights under the human rights act. This doctor sounds obnoxious , prat, l would definitely be requesting a second opinion which is your right

No you don't need permission. See below...

Toker · 07/12/2025 09:47

EvelynBeatrice · 06/12/2025 15:59

Ask to record your next consultation. Explain it’s because the previous consultant ‘clearly confused you with another patient and the inaccuracies were recorded to your detriment in your record. You want to ensure accuracy for the protection of all going forward.’ Or take someone with you to write everything down.

Make sure you look at all guidelines for treatment of your kind of injury and prepare your questions in advance. Good luck

You don't need to inform or seek permission from the other party that you are recording if you are part of the conversation. What you can't do is record other people having a conversation that you aren't part of. That is eavesdropping. Many people record their conversations to keep as notes. If it happens to be required later to prove that someone is lying then that's up to a judge....

@darkpassenger1 I've just come off the phone to pals, records are being changed and they've changed my appointment to see the main shoulder surgeon.. hopefully he can help me further. 🤞

Great outcome. Hope the new surgeon can help.

TFICoffeetime · 07/12/2025 08:06

Go see a private consultant if you can..would an MRI show a dislocation
If it would why not ay for a private MRI then take to a different doctor - or rather I would be tempted to book in consultation as one off with a surgeon that can correct dislocation.
He/She if confirmed on MRI could then write to your GP instructing them to make relevant referrals to get fixed.
I know it's an expense but a lot offer monthly payment arrangements so if you can. You could get it sorted quickly
Left uncorrected can lead to far worse conditions especially with your nerves etc and compression. Good luck
Xx

Have you had proper diagnostics ?

it took me a year to get an ultrasound on my shoulder after I injured it which diagnosed torn tendons which were not picked up on the x rays that were done at the time of injury.

I had been sent to physio before the ultrasound and the exercises were making the injury worse.

I would push for a firm diagnosis as physio cannot be effective and could be damaging without that.

Surgery fixed my injury eventually.

Î’ve lived in France for years and I am just speechless that it could take a year to get an ultrasound. Ok I live in a big city but that would be done within a week here at most. It’s ridiculous that it isn’t possible in the UK. It’s just baffling that they can’t sort it out,

We’ll have to disagree then. The GP may well have listened properly, not taken you seriously, or not treated you appropriately but I think the way you have repeatedly accused him of lying, rather than dealing with the issues rather more tactfully, reflects very badly on you. Sending ‘very blunt emails with threats to report to the ombudsman and GMC’ when you haven't exhausted the correct complaints process really does make you sound unhinged to me.

except if he wrote down things that are not true and he knew they weren't true then he lied..... If he said he had seen xxx in his examination and he did not even ask to see it, then he lied.

LemonDrop150 · 06/12/2025 19:24

Sorry I haven't read the whole thread. But you're 100% doing the right thing. I have bulging discs, the latest episode in January gave me the worst sciatica and Foot drop. I've only just seen a surgeon for a consult, he said surgery should sort the pain. I asked him what about the function in my foot, he looked at the screen then at me and said 'it's been 11 months?'. He looked shocked and told me I have a fraction of a chance I'll be able to use my foot properly again. Do what you need to do to make sure your getting the right care as soon as possible.

Newsenmum · 06/12/2025 19:24

Of course get anothet doctor for 2nd opinion- that’s what second opinion means! Ridiculous.

rre · 06/12/2025 16:59

Having been in the boat of having to go through the process of a dr lying, I wish I’d just taken the OPs approach of very clear to the point, what he has said isn’t the truth type letter straight away, Dancing around the bush and trying to be like oh maybe he misremembered, maybe he saw things differently and trying to be tactful, was a total pain in the arse, meant I struggled to be taken seriously, it is easier just to be clear and to the point from the very beginning.

@growlybear83 the reason I've accused the dr of lying is because he lied.. I don't understand what you don't get about that? Would you not call someone out for lying? I really don't think anything I've said would make me seen unhinged..
