To be sick to death of noisy cars

Dappy777 · 03/12/2025 22:15

WHY don't the police do anything about this? I'm f-ing sick of it😡. Every year the problem gets worse. I'm sitting here unable to concentrate because some idiot is racing around in a souped up car.

I don't know what they do, but their cars screech when they accelerate and then make a banging/exploding sound when they slow down – like someone has let off fireworks. They wake me up at night, and they disturb me when I'm trying to read or watch TV. It's really affecting my life. No one expects the police to catch every single one, but if they'd just fine a few, word would get around. These horrible, ignorant, vile, selfish little bas*ards are basically bullies. They know they upset people, and like all bullies their behaviour will just escalate until someone stops them.

It's electric cars that scare me. Some of them are so quiet and just appear from nowhere when Im out walking my dog. Especially when it's raining or very cold and I have to wear my hood up and a hat.
I do agree about the souped up idiot cars. I can hear them late at night as they screech around our out of town supermarket car park.

Came here to say this. There’s nothing worse than being creeped up on by an electric car. At least cars with loud exhausts give you a warning.

I don't know how they get away with it because your car fails its MOT if the exhaust is noisy.

Where I live the young farmers all have these souped up cars with roll bars and lights like Christmas trees. When they get married and have kids the car rots in the yard alongside all the old farm machinery.

HelenaWaiting · 04/12/2025 09:22

Roll on the day when petrol engines are finally banned. Oh, and don't expect a vintage car waiver. These cars aren't vintage; they're just noisy heaps of crap.

RedPony1 · 04/12/2025 08:51

As a female petrol head in my 40's, my weekend car is louder than average - it's set up for track days which is what i mostly do with it. Anyone that purposely maps in "pops and bangs" are missing a braincell or two!!

However, saying that, i LOVE hearing the sound of loud cars (minus the crap pops and bangs) and will always stop what I'm doing to listen 😀

Pointless nonsense !

Sarah2891 · 04/12/2025 08:39

YANBU. The people who go around with exploding cars are morons.

Delia65 · 04/12/2025 08:33

Mokel · 04/12/2025 06:28

It’s those who make their exhausts louder including having that popping noise that are annoying. It’s actually illegal to make an exhaust louder than it was manufactured.

Nonsense

PigeonsandSquirrels · 04/12/2025 08:10

It’s the motorbikes that piss me off. Especially at 2am when they drive down the road sounding like an atom bomb. I live in a leafy suburb! Why are there bikes with modded engines etc waking the entire neighbourhood up??

Twistedfirestarters · 04/12/2025 08:10

Hamstery · 04/12/2025 02:41

Feel your pain too. It’s totally antisocial and I don’t know why it’s legal.

It's not 'legal' in the sense that it's an MOT fail.

Funnywonder · 04/12/2025 08:05

My eldest went through a phase of going to car meets when he was 15. No car of his own obviously! But he loved all the giant exhausts and bangs and explosions. A bit of a surprise as he’s autistic and used to clamp his hands over his ears at loud noises. He said he wanted a car like that when he was old enough. Now that he’s 17 and learning to drive age, he looks back and thinks how immature he was. That says it all for me. We live close to the countryside and often hear a lot of boy racers on the back roads with their roaring engines and popping exhausts. It’s bloody awful.

If this is true then almost all of your neighbours don't like you. They just won't tell you they think you're a twat to your face.

You attempted a little brag there and failed 🤣

Goodadvice1980 · 04/12/2025 07:43

This is where Section 59 is the best tool for the police for this type of anti social behaviour.

Isouf · 04/12/2025 07:36

I'm from another country but when i moved to the Uk i remembering thinking Oh noooo...these 'species' also exists here🤣
Sorry, not sorry, but the owners look and sound just like their cars 🫢

CottageLoaf · 04/12/2025 07:35

I feel your pain. Both male neighbours on either side - on a terraced street - have done this to their cars. They both leave for work very early, making our whole house rattle. I honestly can't see what the point is.

AgnesX · 04/12/2025 07:24

Where I live is on the route between the suburbs and the city centre and I thoroughly agree.

It really is a look at me/egotistical/selfish/twattish kind of behaviour from a particular kind of individual. Unfortunately it's not going to go away anytime soon.

muddyford · 04/12/2025 07:20

I live in a fairly quiet village but a bloke round the corner had a car like this. I reported it on Crimestoppers' online form and it's stopped.

This isn’t the flex you think it is 🤣🤣🤣

Checknotmymate · 04/12/2025 06:48

I've noticed this is coming back again. More cars being customised like back in the 90s. I did an anthropology degree and one of the lecturers spoke about it and compared it to how young men in certain African tribes hang things on their cows' horns to similarly 'supe' them up and attract the ladies.

It smacks of fragile masculinity.

FantaIsFine · 04/12/2025 06:45

Although perhaps (?) Beeautifull is being ironic?
Edit as cross post, this was to my own :-)

Hamstery · 04/12/2025 06:45

Signed! Thanks for the link. Changing the law is the only way out of this. £50 fine is no threat to the people spending loads of money on doing this to make their vehicles sound aggressive.

FantaIsFine · 04/12/2025 06:44

I normally waggle my little finger at these cars (as well as those driving at double speed limit in residential areas, often hand in hand anyway) on the grounds of them likely being driven by a bloke with manhood insecurities.

Never even OCCURRED to me that a woman might actively choose to be such an exhibitionist pillock in this way. Sexist yes, I'm sorry.
