100% get rid

Yes I fully agree with the reasons why we don't have the death penalty but I'd make an exception for him and Wayne Couzens.

SerendipityJane · 03/12/2025 17:30

The money spent keeping even 2 or 3 of these in prison for life should be spent on the victims/families instead

Of we could put it towards compensating all those people wrongly convicted and jailed for decades ?

AtIusvue · 03/12/2025 17:29

To be honest, a high profile prisoner who has committed sexual offences against little children….may not last that long in prison.

Craftysue · 03/12/2025 17:29

Angela Canning, Sally Clark, Judith Ward were all convicted of child murder. All later acquitted. I can't support the death penalty while innocent people could pay the ultimate price

SerendipityJane · 03/12/2025 17:29

So let me get this clear.

Murderers who we aren't sure about can be locked up forever.
But murderers we are sure about get hanged ?

Seems so simple. You have to wonder what they spend the other 10 years at law school doing ?

I've changed my mind about the death penalty. I think all pedos and rapists should get an automatic death sentence. It's the only way to eradicate the faulty gene in men. And yes, MEN.

There was a female nursery worker who sexually abused children in her care, Plymouth.

But i get your point.

Perhaps rather than ask for the death penalty, we should be asking "How did this happen?"
How did a man abuse toddlers in his care for many years, its a closed environment, he should never have been allowed to continue his vile abuse, where are the checks? what concerns were raised and then not acted on?

Sure we could hang him but it wouldn't stop this type of abuse by others.

Monty34 · 03/12/2025 16:48

Because too many innocent people die that way.
And you cannot bring them back and apologise.

We used to have hanging. A young man with learning difficulties was hanged and it caused uproar. Ditto the last woman to be hanged. A victim of DV.
Yes you hang guilty people but innocent ones too.
It was abolished because people became unhappy with it.
Imagine being accused of something you didn't do. And being sentenced to death for it.

Exactly.

Peachykeenclean · 03/12/2025 17:27

I think if it's incredibly clear cut we should move towards euthanasia as an option where there is true evil, incurable psychopath, depraved and totally unredeemable.

Evidence dna and video etc these days means we are often 100% sure of guilt in some cases.

The money spent keeping even 2 or 3 of these in prison for life should be spent on the victims/families instead

Those who are against the death penalty because it’s inhumane/ could be a wrongful conviction but gleefully explain that the perpetrators may well be tortured, raped and murdered in prison which is better… how do those two ideas exist simultaneously?

I don't think there is much of an intersection.

We don't treat prisoners humanely because of any failing in our own morality. We treat prisoners humanely to display our own humanity.

Uniquely among animals, human are able to develop social behaviour around abstract laws. It's that which makes us human. descending into revenge or vengeance and succumbing to animal instinct rather undermines that.

I don’t know. Where there’s no doubt (like Axel Rudakabana) I think we should have the death penalty

I agree with this.

"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Bringemout · 03/12/2025 17:24

I think if life genuinely meant life or you couldn’t get released early fewer people would want hanging. He’s a monster and would be no loss to the world.

ShizIsWicked · 03/12/2025 17:24

Because there's the logical argument about mistakes etc.... However there is also the fact that, hanging is an easy for them! I would be up for them being taken to one of the worst prisons in the world, pretty sure it would cost us less than it does to keep them in one in this country. If that didn't deter scumbags, not much would.

We can't have the death penalty.

It's inhuman, and we're better than that monster.

This.
Because we have to be better than to answer violence with more violence, or what is the point?

Any evidence that it's genetic? If so, should we be pro-actively killing those with the specific gene?

Monty34 · 03/12/2025 17:17

There are many cases where it is clear the guilty person has been convicted. That, in the public mind should result in a death sentence.
The rationale for not doing so is that the 'clarity' can soon become a bit blurred.
Also, some argue, it debases society.

Hons123 · 03/12/2025 17:16

He is not going to last in jail and you know it - just like what's his face, the Pakistani man with his daughter and the musician scum, they died this year in jail, did they not?
But no to hanging the innocent or even if there is a shadow of a doubt.

SerendipityJane · 03/12/2025 17:15

Grammarnut · 03/12/2025 17:13

But there is doubt. And we cannot risk killing an innocent person.

Why not ? We used to.

myhaggisblewup · 03/12/2025 17:15

I think it's better to keep them in prison, they have accidents so have to sleep with one eye open.
There's also the chance they will send up with a hulking great cell mate who goes by the name of Honeysuckle.....

Bollihobs · 03/12/2025 17:14

HermioneWeasley · 03/12/2025 16:49

I don’t know. Where there’s no doubt (like Axel Rudakabana) I think we should have the death penalty

Agreed. Where there is no doubt and no further victims to find (although info is rarely given over that aids with finding others) I think it is a far more sensible outcome than 50 years in prison where, such as with Hashem Abedi, they are able to attack more people.

Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim · 03/12/2025 17:14

Men like this and the police man who has just been sentenced for raping babies are whey I could never claim to be against the death penalty. I really wouldn’t mind if these men were not sharing our air.
