“Just the tip”

Joe and the juice. I have 2 AIBUs 1. To think asking for a tip when they’re just making a juice, writing my name on it and handing it to me while I stand there is stupid and 2. To find the tip jar saying “just the tip 😉 🍆 “ is a bit crass? I’m actually not a prude and maybe it’s just because I got a really arsey response to me saying I don’t want to leave a tip but it annoyed me today 😅 to make it worse - they don’t accept cash which has had me caught before as I didn’t have my card - but best believe cash is welcome for the tip jar!

a restaurant tried to charge me an automatic service charge of 15% after they handed me a can of coke and a glass 🤬🤬🤬 I asked them what it was for ?!?! And told them very clearly to take it off they were taking the piss! Even a cup of overpriced tea they tried to whack a “service charge” on!!

I’m definitely not 😂 quite the opposite. I didn’t say I don’t want to leave a tip off my own accord. I was asked a) by the card reader asking yes or no/red or green. Then the staff pointing to the tip jar and saying “the tip jar is there” when I pressed no on the card machine. So, very much assuming I was giving one.

The tip jar can jog off. I never tip anyone for doing their job, nor have ever tipped me for helping to save their life. It's what I got paid for as part of my job.

I’m sorry, I call bullshit on a staff member pointing and saying “the tip jar is there”. I live in a country with a strong tipping culture and I have never, ever seen this happen anywhere.

I’ve not either. Hence my surprise.

What?

I think it helps if you know Joe and the Juice is the name of the coffee shop (i didn’t. Read the op three times then had to google).

What was the arsey response you got for not leaving a tip?

I have never had this happen. I live in the States and never, ever tip when buying a takeout juice. The UK doesn’t even have a tipping culture. Odd that they got arsey with you.

Thanks!!

KetchUpWithEverythingPls · 01/12/2025 18:36

@Tryingatleast OP feels just making a drink isnt worth leaving a tip for

Also "just the tip" is alluding to the tip of a penis and feels it is inappropriate

She doesnt want to go back, but then will miss out on some good scran

I’m actually not a prude

I mean, you do sound like one if you’re bothered by a ‘just the tip’ joke. It made me laugh.

Anyone who is too young or innocent for the joke isn’t going to understand it, so it’s harmless.

You don’t have to leave a tip if you don’t want to. Loads and loads of places like that have a tip jar and they don’t have any expectations that people should be obliged to put money into them. It’s just there on the off-chance.

You got an arsey response to saying you don’t want to leave a tip because there was no need for you to say that. If you don’t want to leave a tip, in any establishment, you simply don’t leave one and they won’t be offended. Making a big deal out of not leaving one, and making a point of telling them, was odd, rude behaviour on your part.

The not taking cash isn’t the staff’s decision.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 01/12/2025 18:17

Well, actually I would if it was a decent drink because my actions aren't as strong as my morals. But I still wouldn't tip.

😄😄😄😄😄

This is me after being unable to boycott amazon because I need something delivered by prime 😄
