Yes me. I was flying to Ukraine after having something like my 4th or 5th round of IVF in Istanbul. This was during Covid and I was preparing to self isolate in Kyiv for 11 days. I was already under stress being alone, having 3 embryos inside me and being away from home for total over 2 weeks during a pandemic.
I was the only English speaking person on the plane. 99% were Ukranian. A few were very kind to me and wanted to practice their English with me and we talked about our cultures and things.
As we were flying over the Black Sea, the captain announced - fiesta in Ukranian, then in English that due to an "Engine failure" they were diverting to the nearest airport for an "emergency landing".
I genuinely 100% was convinced that this was going to be the end. And what a tragic end in tragic circumstances. I started to become hysterical and my life was flashing before my eyes. I'd never see my DH, family, friends. The babies I were carrying would never get a chance to live. I even started recording a tragic voice note into my phone telling everyone I loved them and that I was sorry.
We made to an airport and touched down. It was VERY bumpy. I remember seeing every type of emergency vehicle lighting up the Runway. Crews ran towards the plane. Including 2 paramedics... who came straight for me and carried me off, wrapped in a foil blanket. Turns out my hysterics were quite loud and the air stewards called an ambulance for me. I was given a sedative which helped.
Then we were all sat in the airport for about 5 hours waiting for another plane to take us to Kyiv.
The 11 days spent in Ukraine was unforgettable. The place is extremely different to the west.
Also, the local people were very kind to me, and we chatted a lot. I remember them saying they were confused as to why there were Russian troops on the border...
