I think it is . Why make this decision at a time when anti semitism is increasing?

I admire Rachel Moiselle enormously now. I didn’t really know too much about her before this thread. She is a principled and courageous young woman.

You do seem to have a passion for minimising this issue. At the end of the day I will listen to Jews and their allies.

No idea what that is will not click on any X links

People in positions of influence that remain in their posts - with no repurcussions which neatly supports Rachel's other key point about the enablers and deniers. A quick look at Conor Reddy's instagram reveals him to have an obsessive hatred of Israel, with post after post. He has no particular interest in foreign policy, conflict resolution, or human rights. Just a relentless opposition to Zionism - the right to self determination of the Jewish people - and explicit calls for the end of the state of Israel. This is what he posted on 8 October 2023. He did not comment on the 7 October massacre. Looks pretty celebratory to me.

He's a local councillor in one constituency in Dublin he is hardly in a position of power, he was not successful in his bid to get elected to the Dail. If you knew about about irish local government you would know that local authorities do not have the same powers as those in UK so no he is not in a position of power. Irish politics have parties like sinn fein who were once the political wing of the IRA so there are some who still support that type of resistance but that's not exclusive to the Palestinian struggle

I completely disagree that this is evidence of many Irish people celebrating the rape and murder of children which was Rachel's words.

Please remember that Rachel herself has said that anti-semitism is not widespread in Ireland.

Ireland’s Chief Rabbi has said that a ‘very small minority’ are anti-semitic.

I know you have no intention of listening to me.

They are both in Dublin so I don’t think it’s so different to where I am.

Oh I thought you had your finger on the pulse of the opininons of the whole country?

And if you are now telling us you are not in Dublin perhaps that explains your different perception of the opinions of many people in Dublin, where Rachel is a student?

I can’t remember hearing of Conor Reddy before now. I’m in a different part of the country. Googled. He’s a councillor, has run for election to government but (thankfully) wasn’t elected as a TD (the equivalent of an MP). Still a councillor though.

His party represents 1.2% of the government so know at least they’re not mainstream.

I’m genuinely shocked. How can these people continue in their posts? How come Irish posters on here didn’t denounce this? Instead they maligned Rachel Moiselle for pointing it out?
This is truly shameful.

Your are really dancing on a pin now. Many people in Rachel's experience celebrated. You cannot dispute Rachel's experience. Its what she saw and heard. Its not what you saw and heard, but your experience doesnt override hers.

That line you quote just refers to Irish people celebrating. It could not be easily read by anyone in good faith as saying the nation was celebrating

I am presenting evidence of 2 prominent people who celebrated and that shocked majority apparently did not vote them out of office or cause them to resign. Now you are telling us that shock and horror was felt by the VAST majority of the country?! What possible evidence do you have for that Did that vast majority go and shut that demo down on 9 october - a demo called while Israel and Jews the world over were reeling in shock and horror and before Israel had retaliated. Did the vast majority come out for vigils for the victims of 7 October? I really think you need to stop this now.

Agreed. The fact that the tone of the post is moderate and reasonable doesn’t hide the fact that it’s ignoring and minimising the important point. People in positions of influence in Ireland celebrated October 7th and they were not criticised or removed from post. That says it all.

No, she didn’t use the word majority but she said ‘many’ people did. That was the issue for me, the ‘many’ part. It’s misleading. It implied lots of Irish people celebrated.

That ‘many’ doesn’t reflect the true shock and horror of the vast majority on hearing of Oct 7th. I, for one, have never said that nobody celebrated, that nobody is antisemitic here. I saw no evidence of the former but there are always some, very unfortunately.

Or lines like ‘when Irish people came out in celebration at the horrors of Oct 7th Rachel stepped up’ could very easily be read and misunderstood as a nation celebrating. I think any reputable journalist has a duty to be very clear and to make sure their readers come away with the full truth of a situation.

What happened to these public figures who celebrated the massacre of innocent people on October 7th? Are they still in post? Was there a widespread public outcry about their celebration of the atrocities of October 7th?

Thanks Sharon for finding further evidence.
Rachel Moiselle has been maligned and accused of lying on here for saying that people in Ireland celebrated October 7th.
She didn’t say it was a majority of Irish people- she just said it happened. And - alarmingly- it wasn’t random nutters - people in positions of influence made these kind of comments.

You think Israel should be allowed to continue to commit genocide without criticism, because you think if people don't live in Israel, they're not allowed to have a view on it?

You need to read the full conversation - don’t distort a poster’s meaning by taking a post out of context. It’s acting in bad faith.

To those who claimed that noone celebrated 7 October in Ireland I just happened to be researching something else and came across these - all tweets from Irish politicians. Note the dates.

And indeed the number of posters who have a view on Israel but don't actually live there.

And I posted reports from reputable organisations too, among other things. Stop trying to diminish what I provided because YOU don't agree.
