I think it is . Why make this decision at a time when anti semitism is increasing?

If you don't see a problem with the first one, there's honestly no point in me continuing to respond to you.

Governments fund travel all the time. What were the circumstances of this trip? What was 'murky' about it?

I think her motivation is that she hates Ireland. There's quite a lot of it about sometimes a relic of early 20th century conflicts, usually manifesting as 'what is wrong with this country is . . . ' letters or phone calls to radio programmes.

She has adopted a cause to hang that on, and has been confusing actual Irish Jewish people who don't recognise the world she is describing.

And I am also not denying that there is antisemitism in Ireland, a shockingly high rate of it actually going by that map, considering the Jewish population is low, but it is not the worst country in Europe.

What's your evidence for her hating Ireland?

SharonEllis · 07/01/2026 19:53

What is your problem with either of those things? In what sense does she speak 'for Jewish people'?

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs brought her to Israel on a paid trip.

I also have an issue with her speaking for Jewish people when she is not Jewish.

I think it's very fair to reassess what she writes, particularly when she's got quite a lot of dubious claims.

I should make it 100% clear. I'm absolutely not saying there's no antisemitism in Ireland. I have Jewish friends. I've actually been to Israel. My main concern is that Rachel's output and her reasons for doing it are very, very murky.

What is her murky motivation?

Yes, sorry. I should have said she was raised Catholic and left in 2016. (By this I assume she means she’s lapsed as it’s really not at all easy to officially leave the Church.) It doesn’t really matter, but I’m just surprised. I assumed she was Jewish. It does make me feel what’s she’s saying is less authentic somehow? I don’t know if that’s fair, but sometimes when people are looking from the outside in it means their analysis of a situation is a bit off.
(ETA I’m not saying there isn’t anti-semitism in Ireland by the way.)

No @DaisyDenise @OneGladPinkTraybake Rachel is not Catholic, she was raised Catholic and she says she has not identified with catholicism for 10 years. Rachel is such a staunch Jewish ally that she is often assumed to be Jewish so no I don't think thinking Rachel is Jewish means that @OpheliaIsntMad is wrong about other things. Nobody least of all Ophelia said that Rachel had written the Irish Times article either. The article was obviiusly posted to verify the levels of antisemitism that Rachel has been highlighting.

I couldn't care less about the minite details of Rachel's heritage, she is right about antisemitism. I do question the motivation of anyone so invested in digging around in her history for some strawmen. Certainly a pause-and-think issue for any reasonable person.

Absolutely love how you move the goalposts when I come with receipts. Noted.

You might also want to find a good dictionary definition of strawmen. Because, to quote a great Jewish man, "I do not think that word means what you think it means".

DeanElderberry · 07/01/2026 18:42

'Rachel Moiselle' seems to be the latest in a long line of anti-Irish Irish people (many though not all of them Northern Unionists) who will tell any lie to tarnish Ireland.

I think this map, based on data from Tel Aviv, is still probably accurate. Made before the Gaza war and the re-branding of concern for people under siege as antisemitism.

You were in such a rush to reply to me that you didn't notice that I was saying that Rachel didn't write this article. Because she didn't.

You might say that the reason for posting it was obvious to you, but that doesn't mean it was to everyone.

And yes, getting something so wrong as to assuming Rachel's religion absolutely should be a pause-and-think moment for somebody. It puts a massively different framing on Rachel's output.

One other thing - this screenshot that you posted is exactly why Rachel disappeared from Twitter. That paternal heritage is now deeply doubtful. A number of accounts have discovered primary sources including birth certificates and other documents that cast severe doubt on her claim to Jewish heritage.

'People' eh? Well that's that settled then.

Yes. They've done the legwork to find documents that support questioning her claim to this heritage very strongly. So?

Here's one

She's not Jewish. She's Catholic. People used information that she provided to research her family tree and they proved that she has no Jewish heritage at all.

Yes it is - just seen this thread and realise i’m a bit late. I’m really quite shocked from what i’ve seen from Ireland the past few years

OneGladPinkTraybake · 07/01/2026 16:59

OpheliaIsntMad · 07/01/2026 15:27

I think what is important is that she is exposing the increase in antisemitic hate crime in Ireland
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025/12/31/hate-crime-investigation-under-way-after-anti-semitic-graffiti-appears-on-co-louth-roads/

She didn't write that article. Also, there's been absolutely no evidence found yet about who wrote that racist slogan on the road.

OpheliaIsntMad · 07/01/2026 14:47

Really? Who are these “people” ? And where is the evidence of their “research”?

I don’t think it matters how “Jewish” or not in Rachel Moiselle is . I admire the way she is shedding a light on antisemitism in Ireland. It takes courage .

You said "her experience as a Jew". She's Said herself that she's Catholic on Jan 1st on Twitter. Don't you think that since you were wrong about this, that you might be wrong about other things too?

OneGladPinkTraybake · 07/01/2026 16:56

DaisyDenise · 07/01/2026 15:01

She says she’s Catholic but that her father’s family are Jewish.

And genealogists have traced her family tree to show that the only person who had any tenuous link to Judaism was her great great grandfather.

DaisyDenise · 07/01/2026 15:45

Yes, though I doubt she wrote the article you’ve linked.

What does Israel have to do with Ophelia's comment about the Jewish community in Ireland ir Rachel Moiselle's experience as a Jew in Ireland?
