I think it is . Why make this decision at a time when anti semitism is increasing?

So in other words, tone deaf.

Yes, as I said. Did you miss me saying that? I also condemned the tweets.

Your basing a lot on one person though (who later apologised I think you said? I might have that wrong.)

I’m in Ireland and didn’t hear Hamas PR.
I know I’m just another person but my experience to the news of Oct 7th was one of absolute shock and horror. Everywhere I looked here that is what I saw.

I think a lot of the comments on this page are from people outside Ireland and they are often relying on what they’ve read. I am relying on what I’ve seen and how I feel and what people around me say as well as what I’ve read and it gives a different perspective.

I do think we’re being judged harshly on the world stage and I think that is deliberate distraction to an extent (not by Rachel Moiselle to be clear).

I'm based in Ireland too. There have been posts from people including the OP using examples from England and proposing to transpose them to Ireland.

Two tweets. One professor. One student. Neither celebrating. Both supporting Palestinian self-determination at an absolutely appalingly timed moment.

That may well be the case but I can only go by DDs experience when her Irish bestie used the word genocide in her first message after 7 October, literally the day after the atrocity in Israel. This Irish person is a well known feminist author who DD studied with at TCD. It is not Sally Rooney but another well established writer. Hamas PR was alive and well from 7 October onwards. We were amazed that her (ex) bestie had fallen for it.

You said that Rachel Moiselle was lying when she said people celebrating October 7th in Ireland. You asked for evidence that this was true.
Then ( ironically) you provided a link to the article she wrote which referenced several tweets from Trinity professors and students celebrating October 7th .
Im not sure you read the article properly.

Exactly.

OneGladPinkTraybake · 08/01/2026 13:09

OpheliaIsntMad · 08/01/2026 13:08

Where does Moiselle imply that Irish people “as a whole” celebrated October 7th?
Evidence please

The article that people have quoted multiple times and that we're talking about right now. Come on.

OpheliaIsntMad · 08/01/2026 13:08

OneGladPinkTraybake · 08/01/2026 13:05

But people have said a few times to you now that Irish people as a whole celebrating is EXACTLY what was implied.

No one has claimed Irish people as a whole celebrated.

Posters on here have denied there was any celebration by anyone at all ( they even accused Moiselle of lying about it )

@OpheliaIsntMad I think the impression is too often given that Irish people as a whole celebrated or made excuses. This was certainly not true. Ireland was appalled by Oct 7th.

The tweets were I referred to were not celebrating at all! They were voicing support for Palestinian self-determination, and I called them tone-deaf.

And the one that Rachel quoted as actually using celebratory language, I couldn't find. If you can find ones that actually celebrate, please post them.

What bit are you struggling with?

At a very basic level, if all human lives are equal, which is obviously a lot worse; 6,500,000 lives lost or 72,000 lives lost?

I find it odd that anyone can take these atrocities and not consider all the deaths absolutely horrific.

Yes, she is. This was a response to someone about there being no genocide, not related to Rachel.

Calling the awful conflict between Israel and Gaza a genocide is just your personal opinion - not proven fact

Have you no shame. As if 'calling me out' warrants what you said. I have nothing more to say to you. I'm surprised Mumsnet allows this.

🙄

I agree but when a poster uses the Holocaust to support her theories she needs to be called out.

Please stop with the atrocity leagues. It’s horrible.

Yes, sorry, I totally agree about atrocity leagues. It was the other poster that directly compared those who question whether Gaza is a genocide and Holocaust deniers though- I do believe that should be challenged- strongly.
