AIBU to say my Dyson is a Cunt?

in a year I have only been able to use it a handful of times. It stops working after a couple of minutes and I have to pull a piece of fluff out of its arse before it will go again. I have never been able to do more than half a rug before it needs emptying and the fucking clips that are supposed to be so easy to open are actually very stiff and I have to lie the dirty bastard on my clean sofa to get them open. I have spent more time watching You Tube videos on how to coax the little fucker to work than I have vacuuming. You have to wash the filter, no, you have to replace the filter, no, you have to tweeze a couple of hairs out of its backside. I bought it because it was light and I am old and struggled with my heavy hoover. The worst £500 I have ever spent and could ill afford.

I’ve got a Henry Pet (which I can only ever hear in a geordie accent) which is fine.

lifeisgoodrightnow · 29/11/2025 08:33

I got a cordless shark and couldn’t believe how heavy it was. Don’t fall for the Shark propaganda either if you get really fed up of the Dyson.

Thortour · 29/11/2025 08:24

Dyson the Brexit king produces third rate tat. Someone gifted me one and it lasted until just after the period to return it.
Henry all the way.

Misanthropologie · 28/11/2025 15:56

James Dyson is definitely a cunt, and would be even if his products were magic.

See also his over priced hair dryer. It’s a hair dryer. Nothing more nothing less. It did not reduce drying time or frizz and it did not make me look like I’d just stepped out of a salon. So it isn’t worth hundreds of quid. I was given it as a gift- but anyone considering investing save your monies for salon treatments and hair get a £30 Babyliss one.

piscofrisco · 29/11/2025 08:19

I feel very much the same about the very expensive cordless shark we have. It’s fucking useless in every way. We also have a Henry which is good at picking things up but is cumbersome to use-always tipping over and getting caught on furniture and such (which was why we got the damn shark in the first place). On balance the Henry actually does the job so he is staying. DH adds insult to injury with the Shark, because he won’t let me throw the bastard out, so it sits there taking up space and falling out of the cupboard every time I open it. It makes me quite angry just to look at it. Grin

HermioneWeasley · 29/11/2025 08:01

I had had a Dyson, shark a dirt devil and a Henry and I can say with absolute certainty that the ONLY hoover which works reliably and consistently and lasts is a Miele. I won’t have anything else now.

I fucking hate the henry. I don’t understand the love at all. The suction is shit, the attachments are shit and there’s nowhere to store them, it doesn’t manoeuvre and tips over and I’ve knackered my back leaning over the bloody thing to wind the cable back up.

ColdHenrietta · 28/11/2025 14:14

I can only conclude that James Dyson has majority shares in blood pressure medication …

(Get a cordless Vax - they’re lovely!)

This would explain his Brexit stance, as well.

Barney16 · 29/11/2025 07:59

I have an old one, I think it's probably about 15 years old and it's brilliant. Very heavy and clunky but it's like having an elderly workhorse. It's never broken down and it has a good go at any hoovering tasks thrown at it. I don't think the newer ones are as good.

soupyspoon · 29/11/2025 07:56

Commiserations OP, I hear they're not that great.

NewAgeNewMe · 29/11/2025 07:41

Henry is too heavy for me. I have Miele’s cat and dog as well too heavy, as well as Dyson cordless which seems to need replacing every 2 years or so. Next time I’m trying shark as I need a cordless. Mobility issues. One day I’ll find the holy grail of cordless cleaners.

firstofallimadelight · 29/11/2025 07:33

Dyson and sharks are useless . A Henry is the only way to go.

NewGirlInTown · 29/11/2025 07:30

I gave up on Dyson and now use the GTech Air Ram.
I’m not very strong and this is much lighter to manoeuvre.

Buttcraic · 28/11/2025 19:22

Dysons are shite, always have been, the stupid mechanism clogs and theyre disgusting to empty. The cordless ones are simply pathetic. Cant believe the price of them and the hype.

Henry all the way - avoid smells by hoovering up some washing powder first when you change the bag. I have a cheapy handheld for the stairs because henry's too heavy; it cost about £30 and knocks the shit out of a dyson

Vitriolinsanity · 28/11/2025 19:07

TrippingOverMyAssets · 28/11/2025 14:34

Well he can’t be as much of a cunt as my Henry.

I agree. Doesn’t anyone have the problem where the attachment just randomly drops off?

wildfellhall · 28/11/2025 18:25

Ahh my old Dyson was like a member of the family
My new one is so irritating, so heavy and such a palaver; I bet it was designed by a young man who has always, and will always, have a cleaner - like one of those very elegant young architects who design unlivable and unusable buildings

RanchRat · 28/11/2025 17:28

Spurred on by MN I have contacted the seller as it should still be in warranty - I did not even swear. However, sadly, I don't think my Dyson is unusually cunty, I suspect the newer models are all like that - more plastic toy than vacuum cleaner.

I'm wondering whether the older ones were more reliable.

Far more reliable, they weighed the same as a bus, but worked.

Their cordless efforts are shocking.

Vaxtable · 28/11/2025 17:16

Luckily my mum and sisters had shitfest Dysons, although for some reason they still loved them

i have a cordless vax, can’t beat it

Onefortheroad25 · 28/11/2025 17:16

You have my sympathy. Mine was a complete prick.

PeloMom · 28/11/2025 17:14

I’ve had 2 Dyson for over 10 yrs and use it pretty much daily. Have had no issues. Even when my mushy brain (because of a newborn) decided to vacuum mashed potatoes off the floor (long story) it didn’t give up on me.

I have just had to shove my walking stick up its tube to clear it after another five minutes of it trying to suck up a bit of dust.

Honestly love my cordless Dyson! It’s 7 years old and still gojng strong. Bought a corded Shark for longer cleans and used it twice as I dont like it! I only bought it due to all the love they get!

I hate my shark too. Rubbish battery life. Constantly blocked. Drives me mad. I switched from Dyson that I hated for the same reasons. I've bought a £15 bagless corded hoover from Amazon that's forgivable for being shit at this price

Misanthropologie · 28/11/2025 15:56

Radiatorvalves · 28/11/2025 14:50

Is it under guarantee? If so see if they will fix it. We had one for years and when it died I was very happy to replace it with something else. James Dyson’s Brexit stance and moving his business off shore…. Well he’s not in my Christmas card list. Not that he’d care.

James Dyson is definitely a cunt, and would be even if his products were magic.

Misanthropologie · 28/11/2025 15:54

I've had three Dysons and hated all of them. All obviously designed by a man who had never used a vacuum cleaner anywhere but in a laboratory. I've learned my lesson now.
