AIBU to say my Dyson is a Cunt?

in a year I have only been able to use it a handful of times. It stops working after a couple of minutes and I have to pull a piece of fluff out of its arse before it will go again. I have never been able to do more than half a rug before it needs emptying and the fucking clips that are supposed to be so easy to open are actually very stiff and I have to lie the dirty bastard on my clean sofa to get them open. I have spent more time watching You Tube videos on how to coax the little fucker to work than I have vacuuming. You have to wash the filter, no, you have to replace the filter, no, you have to tweeze a couple of hairs out of its backside. I bought it because it was light and I am old and struggled with my heavy hoover. The worst £500 I have ever spent and could ill afford.

“Hello posters, Dyson speaking, how may we redeem ourselves…”

Which one do you have? They're not all equal, but anything from the V11 onwards are pretty great.

Blimey, check out all the Dyson devotees who’ve suddenly rocked up the morning after! 😬

I like this thread

I dont own a Dyson and never have because I didnt fall for the marketing and did my research, sorry OP

But what I would say is that like the other thread recently about washing machine cycle times and eco this or that on equipment or just rubbish equipment, they are invented and tested mainly by men, by and large. Not by the average householder with a myriad of stuff in the house and actual working experience of the things.

We need a thread about household appliances and their little foibles and things that are rubbish about them

Another thread recently the OP was asking about a particular airfryer she had seen which was on special offer. I had a quick browse, turned out from the reviews that this all singing all dancing 3 drawer airfryer had a major draw back, when you open one of the drawers to check on the cooking or shake about, it stops the cooking in all the other drawers. I mean WTF???!!!

This sort of crap, I mean who came up with that?

I hold my hands up Soupy, I did fall for the marketing, over many years I heard how revolutionary and wonderful the Dyson was. At the time I was always saving for various DC related stuff and could not think to afford one. DC now grown up and independent and I had been salivating so long over this cunt of a vacuum cleaner I bought myself one for my 70th birthday without due diligence.
I really find it hard to credit just how bad this piece of equipment is. The sheer nerve of this fucking Dyson bloke taking our hard earned money for his plastic crap.

I LOVE my Dyson. I've had it for more than 20 years, you can easily replace parts yourself, it comes apart so easily.

TeenLifeMum · 29/11/2025 12:03

I’m clearly a weirdo because I love my cordless Dyson. Shark couldn’t cope with 4 of us with long hair, Henry was useless on our carpets, so I went back to Dyson and I love it. We had a fault and it was 2 days after warranty ended, customer services sent us a replacement part for free anyway. I’m nothing but impressed by it and baffled by the shark love.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/11/2025 12:00

We’ve had a Dyson cordless for years, it works fine. My only gripe is that they were too bloody stingy to provide a 2nd filter, when the thing is supposed to be allowed to dry away from heat for 24 hours! Not much use if it packs up (because the filter needs changing) when you’re in the middle of hoovering.

We bought a 2nd one, £12 - so why on earth they didn’t supply one as standard I have no idea.

Friendlyfart · 29/11/2025 11:52

Agree. I got rid of my Dyson and bought a Shark.

WinterOnItsWayOut · 29/11/2025 11:34

I love my Miele cat & dog (have both) and I have a shark cordless.

The Shark is a little more temperamental but we rub along ok together, apart from when it keels over like a drunk teenager 🤨

LOVE mine. Yours is either a fake or an unusual glitchy one. Contact Dyson. They’ll come to your home and sort it out for you.

Amazing number of fakes and glitchy ones on this thread. Does 'Sir' James do the house visits himself?

Dyson PR klaxon 😄

Spurred on by MN I have contacted the seller as it should still be in warranty - I did not even swear. However, sadly, I don't think my Dyson is unusually cunty, I suspect the newer models are all like that - more plastic toy than vacuum cleaner.

Duckishness · 29/11/2025 11:22

I have had 3. 2 paid for, 1 replacement.

The upright one lasted but no need for the gym as it’s like weightlifting.

The cordless ones are great - when they work. Had to get replacement batteries sent twice and then they wouldn’t do it again as out of warranty.

Never again and now have a Shark.

BlakeCarrington · 29/11/2025 11:18

Oh same here OP, I have never owned such a temperamental device and I’d spend far longer trying to make the stupid thing work than on vacuuming.

Gave up in the end and bought a Shark instead. It’s put me right off Dyson products.

EBearhug · 29/11/2025 11:14

I'm on my second Dyson in over 20 years. Can't remember when I got the current one,but it was definitely pre-Brexit. It works well for me.

DoubleShotEspressox · 29/11/2025 11:07

My Dyson was a cunt. Cried about everything. Battery lasted five minutes and couldn’t cope with a single strand of hair.

Was repaired four times in four months. Was so happy when my “no it’s expensive I’ll fix it” engineer husband finally got the arse too and I could throw it out.

Went for a retro Henry and never looked back.

kab89 · 29/11/2025 10:59

I've just started a thread on Housekeeping for reviews of the Miele duoflex. I had a Dyson in the past which was crap - I threw it down the stairs in a fit of rage. I then got a Vax cordless - really not impressed, it just scatters anything bigger than a microscopic grain of dust around the room rather than pick it up.

Soonenough · 29/11/2025 10:53

So many issues with Dyson and I felt a fool for falling for the hype and spending silly money on mine . Then tried to justify it to everyone . But the cleaner just gave me pitying looks.
So on from that what do people recommend? It needs to be cordless lightweight and good suction for dog hair .

My Dyson hairdryer is a cunt too but harmless. But I didn't buy it so no angst involved.

RanchRat · 29/11/2025 10:41

Hope Mr Dyson is enjoying spending his profits on his cunty toy vaccums that just DON'T FUCKING WORK.

A photograph of “that cunt”.

Your days are numbered you arsehole.

Thanks
Wonder what the holy grail is…

NewAgeNewMe · 29/11/2025 07:41

Henry is too heavy for me. I have Miele’s cat and dog as well too heavy, as well as Dyson cordless which seems to need replacing every 2 years or so. Next time I’m trying shark as I need a cordless. Mobility issues. One day I’ll find the holy grail of cordless cleaners.

Dont grt a shark we have a "liftaway" still really heavy.

HopSpringsEternal · 29/11/2025 08:37

PatThePenguin · 28/11/2025 14:21

Oh you need a Shark.

Not a cordless one, but the 'pet hair/lift away' one.

They're fab and not a bit cunty.

I regularly call mine a cunt. It used to be amazing now it rarely does anything. It doesnt seem to pick anything up. Ive checked and checked and no blocks.
