To not want to stay at this family members house again bevmcause she doesn't change the sheets between guests?

I've just been to stay for 4 nights and was told that sheets aren't changed between guests. Told "'it was only X who stayed in them and she's family so I don't see the problem". I said I wasn't comfortable with it and was laughed at and told I was being snobbish/ precious. It wasn't in a nasty way but clearly whatever I say the sheets won't get changed as "they aren't dirty".

Then I was told not to strip the bed because Y is coming to stay next week then Z is coming for Christmas.

I honestly find it pretty revolting and don't want to stay again. My husband says it's fine, he's not bothered, but I know it's just because he doesn't want to cause offence . I really would rather pay to stay in a hotel.

So am I being precious?

Ewwwww. Definitely get a hotel! 🤮

Yuck!
Imagine if the previous occupant(s) slept naked, were very sweaty, had greasy hair, had had sex, or had a badly wiped bottom. 🤮

I'm not the most fastidious, but I always give guests clean sheets and would expect them myself.

Even if they were extremely clean, just showered and disinfected themselves I still wouldn't want to sleep in the bed after them, and it sounds like the op is talking about multiple guests weeks apart.
So yeah, then you factor in the sweaty dirty arses and it's a no from me.

cozyandwarmish · 27/11/2025 08:06

Yuck! And no, you’re not being precious at all. If you really don’t want to cause offence, guess you’ll have to take your own sheets. If your host goes into your room while you’re there, you might get rumbled though!

To not change sheets between 4 different sets of guests is really quite grim.

JustAn0therUsername · 27/11/2025 07:49

No. That’s not ok. The only time I haven’t changed between visits was when my mum was up and down to our area visiting a poorly friend so would stay a night and then be back a few nights later.

but between different people. Change every time!

HelloCharming · 27/11/2025 07:44

Very posh friends of mine change the spare sheets once a year whether they need it or not. Very heavy linen. I think it’s the way of the very posh (but no longer rich enough to have staff)

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 27/11/2025 07:41

I stayed overnight with a friend to save getting a taxi home after a night out. I asked what fabric softener she used as it the bedding smelled like aftershave. She said her teenage nephew (who I've never met) had stayed and he literally covers himself in Lynx as he's at that sweaty boy stage.

I felt grim. I've never stopped there again as I prefer to pay for a taxi home.

NetZeroZealot · 27/11/2025 07:19

Always change bottom sheet & pillowcases for new guests. Might just flip the duvet over if previous guest only slept in it for one night.

Owly11 · 27/11/2025 07:14

I think it depends. Most people don't dirty sheets after one or two nights so if the sheets looked clean and it was a family member that slept there i wouldn't mind. If it was repeated guests over time, there would come a point where i might not like it.

Pricelessadvice · 27/11/2025 07:10

Old flaky skin cells and bodily fluids. No thanks.
Grim.

JustYourAveregeMillennialMam · 27/11/2025 07:09

Absolutely rotten. I wouldn’t stay again! Dread to imagine how often she’s changing her own bed.

Volpini · 27/11/2025 07:06

my brother in law stayed one night recently - sheets were changed beforehand. No one else has slept in that bed since.
i haven’t (yet) got around to stripping the bed, but
my best friend is coming to stay this weekend- also for one night. I will be changing the sheets and duvet cover before they get here.
that bed won’t be slept in again until Christmas when my mother will stay for two nights. Bedding will be changed again for her.
To not do so is rank

MyDeftDuck · 27/11/2025 07:03

Take your own sheet, duvet, and pillows next time……..sorted!

My parents used to bring the sheet, duvet and pillows off their bed when they came for a night every Christmas as she understood the pain of having to change the bed for 1 night.
We then started to take our sheets etc with us when we stayed with our daughter . No hassle for us and she had a new baby.
For other guests we would always change everything

I sometimes do this if I’m staying with a relative or very close friend for just one night to save them the hassle.

I just couldn’t bear used sheets - millions of skin cells are shed every night even if there’s nothing worse!

Superhansrantowindsor · 27/11/2025 06:48

Sleeping bags.
in laws bring sleeping bags when they stay. I always offer to take a sleeping bag when I stay anywhere.
4 nights is a lot though!

I once stayed at a friend’s and she proudly told me ‘Sue and Bob stayed last weekend but nobody else has slept on those sheets since they were changed.’

Gee, thanks.

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 27/11/2025 06:26

YANBU

Granted I did say to my brother recently I wasn’t going to change the sheets for him when he stayed over as they had only been used when we babysat his daughter (7)…but I think that’s different tbh and I wouldn’t do it for any other family members except maybe if you had someone’s partner to stay and not them for some reason

Looociee · 27/11/2025 06:23

YANBU - that’s disgusting. My DH’s step mum does this. I once found a finger nail in the sheets. I’ve stopped staying over now.

Notthehill · 27/11/2025 06:16

Always, always change sheets for visitors over age of 21 18. However, am a bit less fastidious when it's DC's teenage or student friends.

miserablestepmum · 27/11/2025 06:13

That’s disgusting! My son has his room here, doesn’t live here full time, splits between mine and his dads and I even change his bedding every time he’s been home and only he sleeps in the bed!

Shoxfordian · 27/11/2025 06:03

Definitely wouldn't stay there again knowing this

Empress13 · 27/11/2025 05:59

Grim 🤢 Lord knows what leakages could have happened in that bed. She’s a dirty lazy mare

JustMe2026 · 27/11/2025 05:57

Nothing would make me go in that bed if I knew it wasn't fresh and I have nothing against germs but I don't know if the last person slept naked, sneezed into all the pillows, had sex etc etc ewwww no not for me

HeyThereDelila · 27/11/2025 05:46

I’d take my own sheets and lay them on top.

Mummyoflittledragon · 27/11/2025 05:40

I wouldn’t mind sleeping in a bed my mum has slept in for a couple of nights. She showers daily and wears pjs etc. Apart from that, just no and would not give a guest slept on sheets. It’s gross. Take your own bedding including the bottom sheet is the solution here.
