To be delighted PIP assessments are to be face to face?

PAYE · 26/11/2025 14:04

The only good thing about the budget is that Rachel Reeves announced that face to face assessments for PIP and disability benefits are being brought back. AIBU to think that this is a great thing?

It will make sure that the money goes to those who need it. It is madness that such face to face assessments were ever stopped.

I will use one example. A family member has just been awarded higher mobility (car has been ordered ofcourse). She claims (on facebook) to be waiting for emergency surgery for a spinal condition. She claimed (to a mutual friend) one of her kidneys no longer works so she can't walk far. She claimed (to her ex) she has rheumatoid arthritis in her hip so can barely walk. She works as a community carer...

She has just returned from benidorm and has happily showed me photos of her jet skiing, clubbing, windsurfing etc. She openly says she exaggerated her claim and her Dr just wrote her a letter about walking pain. She has also been convicted of £64000 benefit fraud before so has form. I don't begrudge her it. The system is shit and she took advantage 🤷‍♀️

I am not against disability benefits. I have a severely nuerologically disabled child who will forever be a toddler in an adult body with high personal needs. The fact is that PIP in its currenty form is easily defrauded if you know what to say. The rates are insanely unfair as someone who has no physical disability but "anxiety" get the same amount as someone experiencing lifelong severely debilitating conditions such as MS, Cancer, SLD, Blindness, Limb loss etc. It's madness.

Report her or zip it.

LadyKenya · 26/11/2025 17:20

@PAYE Can you clarify that this was mentioned in the budget Today?

A person can lie, all that they like, but if they have no medical evidence to support what they are saying, the assessors will not just take whatever they say, and run with it.

They used to be in person.
Someone I know would come back from running his tours in India to attend them.

I mean, you’d hope posters like this had the balls to report benefit thieves. Otherwise they’re part of the problem.

I receive PIP and have no issue whatsoever with face to face, providing my carer can get me there obviously.

Ah - seeing OP is skirting the interesting questions. Tells me everything.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/11/2025 17:16

You have to notify pip too. No more than 4 weeks out of the country.

She’ll be in huge trouble.

I kind of hope there is some comeback, I do. It’s morally wrong.

Zov · 26/11/2025 17:19

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 17:18

You must surely know if your close friends own their home or rent? What kind of work they have done, and if that comes with an occupational pension?

Anyway, you seem quite angry and combative, so I’m going to bow out of this thread now.

Why are you not saying if you reported this woman?

It's very clear you HAVEN'T reported her. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm off too as I'm going out for a bit. I'm not going because I can't and won't answer questions aimed at me.

Have a fab evening. 😎

Did RR even mention PIP Today? I never saw it reported in the news.

Yep this. I am waiting for the OP to come and post the link to this story she said she heard about in the budget. No-one else seems to know about it. I can't find it anywhere.

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 17:18

Zov · 26/11/2025 17:14

Also @dontletmedownbruce how do you know so much about this person's outgoings and income and assets and benefits and travels? I don't know half as much as you do (about this random woman,) about my own best friends and adult children!

"No it's not. It will hopefully put off some of the chancers from applying. Taxpayers money shouldn't just be handed out on the basis of a phone call."

It's a waste of time when someone already has continuing care funding for their disability and extensive care agency care plans.

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 17:15

The “wonga” is your income tax, @zov🤣

So have you reported her?

Zov · 26/11/2025 17:16

Overthemhills · 26/11/2025 17:11

It’s so boring day after day of the increase in Pip claimants/ADHD/anxiety/free cars/taxpayers.
Ironically, the only benefit I can see that’s been reportedly changed is Universal Credit.
It hasn’t changed the amount or criteria for disabled benefits and yet still this OP has come out with a story to make sure people don’t forget that their are them disableds getting things for free you know

Exactly this. Such a goady, baiting thread, designed to cause outrage and froth. And I fell for it.

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 17:15

Well she MUST have some wonga stashed away to be travelling as much as you say she is.

Hope that helps.

What “I’m on about” as you so charmlessly put it, is your assertion that the person I know is “an incredibly wealthy globe-trotter”. I was helping you to follow. This person has nothing. They have a state-funded rented flat. She has nothing at all except her benefits. Hope this helps.

AutisticAndMore · 26/11/2025 17:12

Kirbert2 · 26/11/2025 17:01

Exactly.

It makes no sense. I literally had to explain that just because my son is in hospital, it doesn't mean that he's stopped growing and magically won't need any new clothes.

You’d think that would be obvious to anyone with half a brain cell but that just demonstrates exactly what a mess the benefits system is in many respects.

What are you on about? 😆EVERYone's life in England is good in comparison to some other countries.

And why are you not answering everyone asking you if you have reported this globe trotting wealthy person on benefits? She MUST be quite wealthy doing all this travelling yes?

So..... did you report her? And if not, WHY not?

It actually is if you lie. If someone is playing the system it's not hard for them as it really makes no difference if they are awarded or not. If you have a genuine need for the assistance it is much harder as it actually has a serious impact whether ot not you are awarded.

It is NOT easy to claim PIP, it is notoriously hard!!! FGS, this thread is infuriating!

askmenow · 26/11/2025 17:07

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 14:11

How often though? And when will it start? As I’ve mentioned on another thread, I know someone travelling around south-east Asia. Claiming PIP and disability allowance and UC. Has a flat paid for by the state which has her stuff in it but is otherwise unoccupied.

She feels confident to continue her holiday / travelling, because her claim isn't reassessed until 2027.

Report her! Thats unconscionable conduct and fraud. Sooner we clamp down on PIP fraudsters the better because any system needs to be proven to be fair.

At the moment we have an evidently unfair benefits system, which is open to abuse.
We need a well advertised whistleblower website to clamp down on cheats.

Zov · 26/11/2025 17:06

deepseaargyllfish · 26/11/2025 16:58

She isn’t incredibly wealthy. Where did you get that idea from? No savings, no assets, no property, no pension. In England she was incredibly poor, existing on benefits. In developing countries with no bills, her quality of life is good by comparison.

What are you on about? 😆EVERYone's life in England is good in comparison to some other countries.
