Hello

My workplace has a vending machine. I bought a £2 drink this morning from it but the metal thingy turned around but didnt release the item so it got stuck.

I went to get more change to buy the one behind it/above it to try to release it, but the original one that was stuck was gone...

Im pissed off about this.

What do you make of this?

Do you think im being unreasonable?

It’s fair game to anyone who sees it after you e left the machine IMO

That’s soda pressing.

Brava! Makes the whole thread worthwhile.

A... a wooden... display bar?

No, sorry, not having that

What do you mean?

It was made of wood, inside a normal Lion Bar wrapper.

You should have just rocked the machine back and forward a little to make the drink fall out.

Or whacked it from the bottom. Negative pressure. Hit at the point where you want the item to land.
(Like when, as a smoker, you'd hit the top of the pack rather than the bottom to get a fag out)
I only learned what this was from Margot, in For All Mankind 🚀

Soda problem is someone else took it?

Better call the fizz fuzz.

That’s soda pressing.

nomas · 25/11/2025 22:29

Call the number on the vending machine.

Why are people so helpless these days.

I am in a bad mood and I've no idea why. Some of these replies have cheered me right up!

MBM18 · 25/11/2025 22:21

Speak to the person who manages it at your work? I used to manage it in a previous role. Any big issues I’d report to the vending machine company but for small issues like yours or swallowed change, we’d give back to employees out of the petty cash tin

I was not gone for long when I went to get chamge.

I was actually thinking that someone had walked past the machine and saw the can halfway released from the holder thingy (there is a see through panel bit) and theyve shook/hit the machine to get the can to fall and then taken it (and not bought anything from the machine, maybe had no intention to).

As for leaving it on the side, they couldve went into the staff room and asked if anyone tried to buy a can of something and the machine didnt release the can.

Why didn't you just hit/shake the machine?

mumof5five · 25/11/2025 22:15

This cracked me up🤣🤣🤣🤣

Zempy · 25/11/2025 20:57

Have you called the police?

Marylou2 · 25/11/2025 20:47

Any CCTV in the area? I'd spend hours of the company's time watching the tapes. Also dust the machine for prints. Cordon the area off with that yellow and black tape you see on TV. Buy a deerstalker from Amazon, pretty sure you can put this on your expenses. If you're in the Manchester area I'll pop along and be your sidekick.

IndigloLight · 25/11/2025 20:46

I meant went to get some change for the machine to use it a second time, not go and get changed (mistype).

I was not gone for long.

I think the culprit is on MN.

Annoying but not really a drama or surprising. Someone brought something. Stuck one fell out. They were hardly just going to leave it on the side.

Sorry no no no! It was a poor play on words. It was the three items. I tried to be clever but clearly failed. I apologise!

....No, I apologise. I've become so wearied by people not capitalising words that need to be capitalised that I now assume error where there is none.

M'lud, we request that all charges be dropped and that compensation be awarded in the shape of a Bounty.

Plain chocolate, obviously.

We're not animals.

I've had the opposite happen (and oh yes, this is not a humble brag) I've bought a drink and had a twix randomly pop out with it. Went to retrieve my bounty and there was a pack of crisps in the bottom as well. 3 for the price of one. Had all the major food groups for lunch that day.

Now, GivingUpFinally, let's just go over your statement, shall we?

The drink led to the unexpected Twix. But you opened the drawer to find a Bounty and a packet of crisps. 'Three for the price of one,' you say?

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I am but a simple barrister, and regrettably unversed in mathematics. But - bear with me, I shall do this on my fingers - a drink, a Twix, a Bounty and a packet of crisps?

Four. Is it not four? I think that's four, ladies and gentlemen of the jury.

I leave you to draw your own conclusions concerning the reliability of GivingUpFinally's....story.

No further questions, your honour.
