To think my mum has fallen down a conspiracy rabbit hole and I can't get her out

My mum has just sent me a video of Ant Middleton explaining how in 2027 the migrants / boat people who are seeking asylum and have already been made legal, will kick off and attack us all.
He says there will be a civil war, he knows because of army contacts and that we need to prepare.
What am I suppose to say to that?
She fully believes that an army is being formed and is constantly telling me or sending me videos about it.
I love my mum but since covid, which she thought wasn't real, she has been thinking the government is out to get us. We live in an area of increased immigrants and she absolutely hates them.
I've tried to talk to her but shes adamant and its really getting me down.

It's happening to a lot of people. Immigration is out of control all over Europe, the media is poison and it is creating a serious mh crisis.

PoppyRoseBucky · 26/11/2025 00:44

No, I didn't.

I specifically said in my post the number could be up to 500,000.

There is no reliable way of knowing true scope of the rape gangs, so the figures could up 250,000, more than that or less than that.

You posted that link, claiming that the 250,000 figure had been debunked. That is not remotely what the article said.

Simply that there was no reliable way of knowing how many.

Your words. The first part you posted as a fact, the second in brackets you posted as conjecture. Goodness sake, it's there in B&W!

250,000 white girls (some are reporting the figure to be as large as 500,000) were groomed and raped by gangs of predominantly Pakistani Muslim men.

So, tell me. Why do people need to make things up or spread misinformation as a fact if immigrants and migrants are that bad? Should people not just deal with facts (real facts are truth, which is backed by evidence don't forget), and still come to the same conclusion if it's true?

I would argue that 1 man raping is 1 man too many, from any background, religion or colour. It doesn't have to be 250,000 in order to get outrage does it?

Debunked: falseness. It was false what you wrote because do not know the figure.

kathmacc · 26/11/2025 01:24

I class myself as a well educated, degree level person who is employed. When I was a bit bored a couple of years ago I watched a documentary on Netflix about “flatliners- basically they believe the world is flat, not round. After watching it I found myself actually listening to their reasoning- the internet is truly scary! It doesn’t take a massive leap of faith to see how quickly people can fall into a very dark rabbit hole!

Sounds a lot like my parents. Not very educated and very susceptible to misinformation. My brother followed a lot of accounts reflecting their hobbies and interests when he was watching their TV and it’s improved the situation a bit.

This is a good idea and try and educate them on how algorithms work.

Be honest.

That's not what the link says, and you know it.

It simply says the total number cannot be estimated.

"An inquiry in 2022 said “it is simply not possible to know the scale of child sexual exploitation by networks”.

We have not been able to find a reliable estimate for the total number of victims, however. We therefore cannot say whether the figures quoted in these posts are right or wrong."

That hardly debunks the figure. Simply says that they can't make a reliable estimate. So it could be less or it could even be more.

Either way, interesting that you ignored the rape gangs and tried to focus on the one thing you tried and failed to debunk.

However, you reported it as fact when you now can see nobody actually knows.

Completely agree @PoppyRoseBucky

This has set this population against itself. Sides are being taken on behalf of child rapists. It's been the most shocking thing I've experienced.

It really has, and same here.

If there was one thing I'd thought we'd all be able to unite under it was being against child rape-no matter who the rapists were and who the children were.

I think the rape gangs have revealed that there's still a real class divide in the UK. These girls were ignored and dismissed because they were white girls from poor, working class backgrounds, many from broken homes and some in the care system.

They were left as fodder for these men, and the men knew it and capitalised on it and everyone turned a blind eye. Many don't care, even to this day and would much rather not talk about it.

Happyjoe · 26/11/2025 00:16

PoppyRoseBucky · 25/11/2025 23:56

Precisely this.

In a lot of the European countries that have allowed mass immigration, they have also seen an increase in the number of reported rapes and attacks on women and children.

It's not comforting or any less frightening to consider that we are so high up on the list in Europe for the number of reported rapes. Whilst some of that could be attributed to the broader definition of rape we have here and in Sweden, and an increase in reports of rape being made-it doesn't truly capture the entirety of the reason we're so high up in the statistics.

In March 2024, 71,227 rapes were reported for the year March 2023-March 2024.

In March 2001, 8,593 rapes were reported. Yes, some of the increase could be attributed to an increase of reporting and the broader definition and more people becoming more aware of date rape/coercive rape etc.

But it's a fool's errand to deny that immigration, especially immigration from countries and cultures that have vastly different values to us on women, has had an impact.

250,000 white girls (some are reporting the figure to be as large as 500,000) were groomed and raped by gangs of predominantly Pakistani Muslim men.

There is strong suspicion that these gangs are still in operation today, and it is something that is not just a national scandal and outrage but one that even Americans are talking about.

We can't just ignore things just because they make us all uncomfortable. It's doing that that led to one of the biggest, if not the biggest, stain on our country that we've ever had.

250,000 number white girls was debunked.

How many children have been the victims of grooming gangs in the UK? – Full Fact

A widely shared estimate that a million children have been victims is not reliable, but the true total remains unclear.

Apologies, The response to the rape info;

Oh, so it's the definition of rape that's incorrect and that is why England has now taken the crown for rape capital of Europe!
Good to know. Keep telling yourself that.

Thanks. What's your opinion on that statistic? Is it something that worries you, or do you see the context as reassuring? What about some of the other concerns around rape and sexual violence - obviously the rapes we've seen by immigrants that have been prosecuted, and the stories from residents around some of the asylum hotels that they no longer feel safe. What would you say to a woman or girl in an area like that to reassure them?

Happyjoe · 26/11/2025 00:09

wrongthinker · 26/11/2025 00:04

Oh, I was talking about the poster's response to that comment. Which I may have misremembered or outright invented. I wasn't trying to summarise the comment you quoted, but the response.

I guess what I'd say about that comment is, yes, the different definitions of rape mean that you're not always comparing like with like. But putting forward a stat showing that the UK has more rapes than elsewhere in Europe (even Sweden with its vastly expanded definitions) and then telling people that they shouldn't take that to mean that the UK has more rapes than anywhere else in Europe, because Sweden changed their definition of rape... doesn't make any sense?

Surely Sweden should be number one, in that case? Or it's even more worryiing that it isn't?

In any case, I don't think telling people that the statistic doesn't mean what it looks like it means is going to assuage people's fears. I think it's completely understandable that it frightens people and you're going to need a lot more convincing statistics to make people less scared. Just telling them they're stupid and don't understand the context is not effective.

I cannot be arsed to fact-check your whole post, but you need to know that YOU are the problem. You, and people like you.
Spreading misinformation and disinformation without putting any effort into checking the credibility of your sources and highlighting individual criminal acts and using them to tar a whole population will do FAR more harm to this country, than anyone arriving in a small boat.

There you go.

As I recall (without scrolling back for pages) she said that she understood that there are different ways of identifying rape in different countries, but it was nonetheless a frightening statistic that shows an increase in rapes in the UK. It doesn't exactly put your mind at ease to consider that we're not the worst in the world, we're only the worst among the countries that are actually counting. And it doesn't take away from the point that there's a correlation with increased immigration into the UK (from countries who don't count rape as rape so much as we do.)

Precisely this.

Again, you seem to think that 100% of the population is driven to hatred by politics. This is simply not true.

Not 100% of the population took part in the votes you've quoted.
Most of the population aren't that bothered by politics of any kind.
Hatred is a strong feeling that most of the population don't have the energy for.

And it's the ECHR (European court of Human Rights)FYI. Something that gives us the protections we take for granted, that some people in this country would like to remove so they can make more profit from us. I suggest you maybe do some reading around this so you know what they stand for, rather than regurgitating incorrect information.

So nobody cares, it's all misinformation, everything is wonderful.

A thought . Given how internet algorithms work - could you try spamming your mum’s social media by sending her a load of alternative videos/reels etc so that she is opening and viewing completely different material which in turn would generate more of the stuff you are sending ? Doesn’t need to be showing an opposite political view - travel blogs, cute animals, anything to try to dilute her current feed .

I haven't ascribed it to voting intentions.

The hatred is between the two groups of people on the basis of their diametrically opposed beliefs, ie leave or remain, leave the EHRC or not.

wrongthinker · 25/11/2025 23:42

So here's what seems to be the 'argument' from the 'lefties':

"I have lots of great arguments and undeniable facts. I'm a brilliant critical thinker and I am excellent at debunking conspiracy theories. I know I'm right because I have a lot of evidence. What's more, I understand exactly what my opposition thinks and I'm familiar with every point they make and I have fantastic counterpoints to make, backed up with solid evidence. But I'm not going to share any of the facts, evidence, or arguments here when invited to do so. I'm just going to call everyone who disagrees with me stupid and racist. That'll do."

I'm sorry, but I honestly believe that if you think your ideas are good, you have the confidence to express them. If you are genuinely good at presenting counterpoints to arguments, it's because you understand the opposing arguments deeply. And you certainly wouldn't let your opposition put their arguments reasonably and clearly on a thread like this without taking them apart, one by one, so no one could be left in any doubt that there is, at the very least, an equally valid counterargument that should shake their certainties.

It's not just this thread, but every thread where the established 'left' narrative is challenged in any way. Maybe lefties just got too comfortable having everything on their side, and forgot that they have to actually argue for their views, rather than enforce them through censorship, cancellation, and violence.

This thread prevents users from posting on it until they have been members for at least 2 days.
