Posting for traffic.

Just been asked if I’m pregnant. Partner is against Mounjaro because of potential side effects and luckily tells me I’m perfect. But I’m not. I’m 4 stone overweight. I was trying to lose weight by walking, cutting down crap etc. but being perimenopausal isn’t helping.

I am surrounded by success stories of mounjaro.

I think I’m going to do it. I’d rather not tell partner. I do feel ashamed. Will I be able eat “normally” in terms of meals, when I’ll be with him?

Just do it and tell him it’s done xx

you have to keep the medicine in the fridge how are you going to hide it?

It can be kept out of the fridge once it has been used.

I'm ashamed I’ve let myself get like this. And that I can’t seem to lose it.

You are being unreasonably hard on yourself just do if and stop feeling bad!xxx

Why are so many people with ‘unsupportive partners’ or partners they can’t talk to? I don’t see the issue at all. I tell everyone.

Me too. Trying to hide it is like trying to hide having Diabetes or HIV or anything

Followthesunshine · 22/11/2025 22:38

If you eat normally you won't lose weight. I struggle now with eating breakfast, and can't finish a normal sized meal. I have an aversion to alcohol and fatty food. Anyone who knows me well can tell I am taking WLI because my behaviour with food has changed so much (for the better). My WLI get delivered in a large cold bag and the pen needs to be stored in the fridge until it is opened. If I had wanted to hide it from my partner I'm not sure how I would have managed it!

FurForksSake · 22/11/2025 22:37

There is tonnes of support on mumsnet, it has been amazing for the WLI community I’ve found. I’ll forever be grateful to the 2025 Auggies and the maintenance crew.

if you do decide, find your starting month thread and jump on. You’ll find support and kindness and people that can completely relate.

I’ve never hidden I’m on it and I’ve never gone up from the lowest dose.
ive had no side effects at all!
what it has enabled me to do is fast really easily.
i do 16:8 or 18:8 no problem.
I’ve steadily lost weight and I’m really considering what I eat .
also chugging 2l of water a day minimum

My weight loss has come from intermittent fasting too (I do one meal a day mostly). Mounjaro has just made it achievable long tem. Like having an electric bike for the uphill parts really.

BMI 23 now, 43 when I started in Oct 24.

Negotiating maintenance now.

Go for it.
my OH still doesn’t know.
I’ve lost 26% of me since Christmas. I started MJ in February.

I didn’t tell him as I didn’t want to be judged and I was concerned in case it didn’t work!!!

I lost weight even on the low dose. I’ve gone from a BMI of 30 to 23.

I’m very happy. I’ve started walking more and doing weights. And eating less.

MJ helps me eat less. I counted how many calories I need just to keep still and as a short person it’s not much. No wonder I was putting in weight and struggling to lose it.

mJ has helped me start to reprogram my brain and approach to food and life.

it isn’t a magic wand.

but YANBU to start it and not tell a soul.

go for it!!!

You can’t have a very good relationship if he would judge you for trying to lose weight.

And a side effect of me losing weight is that he has too!!!!

both of us being more mindful about what we eat and drink.
incl drinking less alcohol

ShrankLastWinter · 22/11/2025 22:23

This time last year I felt like you. Now I’m 5.5 stone lighter.

Like pp have said: MJ, super-healthy diet, high protein, veg, exercise.

Shakeapeg · 22/11/2025 22:22

It’s changed my life. I’ve never eaten a lot but was nearly 5 stone overweight. Mounjaro gave me my happy life back and changed everything. It doesn’t just work on your appetite - it works on your blood sugar / insulin.

FastTurtle · 22/11/2025 22:22

FurForksSake · 22/11/2025 22:19

@FastTurtle some people don’t respond until they are on the higher doses. If he keeps going and eats in a calorie deficit (priority for protein and fibre and consuming whole foods) it will work. You hear a lot about super responders or people who in some way it works at the lower doses (placebo) but it is designed for you to keep increasing until you reach the maximum dose or the dose which works for you.

Ok thanks, I don’t know much about it and don’t want to ask him too much as it’s his thing. There definitely hasn’t been any constipation or big appetite loss so far.

FurForksSake · 22/11/2025 22:17

I highly recommend a bottle of lactose you can purchase over the counter for constipation. It’s very sweet but works well without making your bowels lazy. Also psyllium husk and lots of water!

FastTurtle · 22/11/2025 22:16

Unfortunately it isn’t working for my DH, he’s been on it for 11 weeks and has only lost 1kg. I’ve only noticed the tiniest decrease in his appetite.

Brightbluesomething · 22/11/2025 22:12

I’m not on it but two of my friends were so I feel like I’ve been on their journey with them. They thought it was a magic wand to curb their appetite. They both lost weight quickly and went up the doses but kept eating and drinking the same crap they always had, and didn’t exercise. They’ve both stopped now due to nausea, really bad constipation (for weeks) and the cost. They’ve put the weight back on.
Whereas a lady at work has been on it a year, eats well, goes to the gym and has lost 4 stone and kept it off.
If you use it to help you make sustainable changes, it can be really helpful. My BMI isn’t high enough to be eligible but I wish this was around after I had my DC’s as it took two years to shift the weight by going to the gym and eating well.

JinglingtoChristmas · 22/11/2025 22:12

The risk of the side effects of mj are lower than risks due to being obese.

Timetochange24 · 22/11/2025 22:09

I haven't told my partner. At the start, I thought it might be yet another failed diet fad, and I wanted the option not to have to share yet another faddy failure. I was also ashamed of my weight, even to the point that I couldn't tell my partner of 20+ years what I weighed. He thought I was just a bit cuddlier. I was heading towards morbidly obese, high cholesterol, and would wake him up with my sleep apnoea snoring several nights a week.

I took my first dose when he was away on a work trip so that I had some space to deal with side effects. Luckily, I've never really had any except for very low appetite. I've been constantly trying to lose weight for about a decade so the idea of sometimes having less on my plate isn't new.

If I had a time machine, would I have told him? I don't know. I've been hiding away my medication for over a year now, and I really dislike having this secret. But I still don't think he would understand.

JustBeach · 22/11/2025 22:07

Hasn’t been noticeable particularly. I am eating the same as when I am on a diet- healthy and smaller portions. The only difference is it’s easy to do! I’m on 2.5mg and not had any side effects. I’ve only told my husband , but none of my friends or colleagues have noticed and I’ve been out for meals. It’s the best thing I’ve done, I wish I’d done it sooner !

FurForksSake · 22/11/2025 22:06

I remember feeling deep shame and embarrassment. I now don’t feel like that, I needed help and I’m sure I wouldn’t have got the weight off without the help.

I can’t say it is all sunshine and roses. My bmi is now 21 and I want to tell everyone that actually I’m secretly an obese person hiding in a slim body. I often feel a total fraud when people comment on it or notice. I’ve recently had surgery and was described by staff as “tiny” and in my head I’m still a size 16-18 not an 8.

im still taking mj 15 months on and I’m terrified of coming off. I’ve got the hard work of working out how to maintain and get the habits to stick and to come down the doses. Potentially not to come off, but to reduce.

I would do it again in a heartbeat. It’s a tool and you’ve got to fix what got you here (the meds will fix the insulin resistance and hormones, but not all the other stuff).

Stay on the lowest dose you can for as long as you can.

bridgetreilly · 22/11/2025 22:05

OP, please check out the WLI boards on Mumsnet. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of about taking action to improve your health. The risk of serious side effects is minimal, and almost everyone finds their sweet spot with dosing to get to a point where everyday side effects are also minimal.
