What the heck! Trans women get periods apparently

AIBU that this is the most ridiculous thing for a company to claim.

"Can a transgender woman have a period? Absolutely. Many trans and gender-diverse people menstruate. Whether you’re a woman, a man, non-binary or agender, your body may menstruate too."

I always change the word "trans" in transwoman/transman to "pretend" and that stops me being muddled up.

HermioneWeasley · 21/11/2025 12:51

That would be violent misgendering. You can’t say trans man is any sort of woman.

Good God almighty, what a farce.
But yes, a trans man is a biological woman. Though as you say, a transgender man is a trans woman. (And we thought pronouns were a minefield!)

How to support trans women during their period

a) they don't get them, and b) why the hell would I want to support them through it if they did? Honestly, anyone choosing to get periods when they don't have to is a brick short of a full load.

Being a good ally to trans women during their period means being respectful, understanding and supportive. Here are some keyways to be there for them:

  • Be kind towards the trans women in your life, and acknowledge their experience as women. Respect their names, pronouns and bodies.

It just gets worse. Now I have to acknowledge their experience "as women"?

I think it’s this insistence on being validated as ‘women’ that makes me see red.
It’s such a bullying attitude: ‘agree with me, play a part in my fantasy, tell me what I want to hear, or I’ll bring the weight of the Law down on your head’

I thought that too…but in the article they state correctly what a trans woman is.

A trans woman is someone who is a woman and who was assigned male at birth.

Hence them thinking some trans women have uteruses is baffling.

Edited

What? No, that is incorrect. If they are trying to make that very exact distinction there, then they are presumably referring to individuals until recently referred to as ‘intersex’.
That is not the same thing as ‘trans woman’ as the term is used and understood currently. (Which is a biological man who chooses to adopt a female presentation and its cultural hinterland)

I said in another comment that there’s a push out there to use ‘trans’ as an umbrella term for any sexual orientation, voluntary gender presentation, or chromosomal irregularity/anomaly which departs from the more usual heteronormative body and soul. (A clumsy way of expressing a tangled idea; apologies)
Anyroad, I think this should be resisted, as it is distorting the recorded actualité in contemporary society. What’s more urgent is that it adds greatly to the existing confusion.

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 22/11/2025 01:48

I need more period underwear, so thanks for reminding me not to buy them from ModiBodi.

If any male is experiencing sustained, multi-day bleeding from his crotch, he needs to see a GP. I think ModiBodi's marketing here has been irresponsible.

I think "some" might be just about correct, when you factor in that some males with certain DSDs, but who presented as women, could reasonably identify themselves as transwomen.

But the article doesn't seem to be saying that, and is presenting it as if there's a reasonably large cohort vs an extremely rare instance.

Anonymousemouses · 22/11/2025 00:58

Malvarrosa · 21/11/2025 23:35

The trans women who DO have uteri are probably actually circumtranswomen: biological women (Modibodi would probably say AFAB - Assigned Female at Birth) who identify as biological men who identify as and present as women.

There was a Labour councillor in Lewisham who came out as circumtrans in 2019, but I think it’s still quite taboo. Circumtranswomen are of course a triply-marginalised minority as they (1) are women, (2) are trans, and (3) present as women to society.

So they are confused women? What a mind fuck that is

While I don't doubt there's a research team of absolute fuckwits in London fundraising for this, surely anyone donating funds, if they thought about it for more than five minutes, would decide to donate elsewhere.

Having carried babies, my experience was that pregnancy and growing a baby involves more than a uterus. It's the entire endocrine system, digestive system, your lungs, your heart, your blood volume, your brain.

Where would the uterus go?

And what kind of research team would take that risk with a live foetus?

And what would be the point?

It's clearly never ever ever going to happen and anyone who thinks it might is insane. Certifiably.

[Not a pop at you AnSolas, but just something I ponder every time some idiot blithely talks about uterine transplants into men like it's ever going to be within the realms of possibility]

These are all good questions.

I have noticed that some people, researchers included, believe that a uterus is a plug and play organ. And that what would end up being a human grown in a bag is apparently something to be celebrated as progress.

Because as you say, growing a foetus to term is more than an embryo in a uterus. The fact that the embryo / foetus takes components from other parts of the mother as and when they need it, not just awash of hormones but a range of components, needs an endocrine system managing this. One that cannot simply be switched on. And how the fuck do they create these connections out of nothing as well.

It is madness that this has been considered. And it absolutely is experimenting needlessly on humans that cannot give consent. For what? A male person who has fetishised yet another female body function.

orangemapleleaves · 22/11/2025 00:39

AnSolas · 21/11/2025 13:54

There is a research team in London etc fund raising on how to do this ( as experimentation on babies is what a cool father decided is the best start in life ).

Perhaps a member of their PR team watched the Danish Girl and assumed that uterus transplants in men were now a success? Lord knows.

Obviously many trans men have periods.

He's hard to follow.

However, even if a man had a uterus implanted into his abdomen, he'd still be a man. I could get rabbit ears grafted to my head, it wouldn't make me a bunny.

So true.

And no male has ever received a successful uterus transplant anyway.

So they can't have periods.

ThatCyanCat · 21/11/2025 22:51

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 21/11/2025 21:38

Indeed.

Tommyhound was suggesting a uterus transplant, however.

I agree but some do have uteruses

No, they don’t. Not even through surgical procedures. If a transwoman told you they had a uterus, they were lying.

An inverted penis is not a vagina.

Well, to be fair, the only people who have ever had their testicles removed and their penises also removed, or inverted into an artificial , dead ended surgical wound in their perineum that requires lifelong dilation to keep open, in order to resemble a woman, have been men.

Indeed.

Tommyhound was suggesting a uterus transplant, however.

I've ha done for 80 years so I do have an inckling.

It’s hard to tell with the typos but you seem to be saying that you have had a uterus for 80 years.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that a woman of 80 years-old doesn’t know the difference between a uterus and a vagina.

ThatCyanCat · 21/11/2025 20:54

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 21/11/2025 20:47

No. No it wasn't. Because it's never been done with a male.

This is where all this anti science bs gets us.

This is why is important to counter lies in adverts.

I wasn't referring to you, Tommy. I was referring to your predecessor earlier who came in, told us facts should bugger off, threw a tantrum and then bogged off to get hammered by their own admission, which is exactly what I'd do if I made posts like that. It seems they were the opening act and now we've got... stuff like this. Maybe the matinee was better.

Tbf I think they should double down and start selling a Tans Woman Period Kit that contains

  • chocolate because women always eat chocolate when they have a period,
  • tissues for all the weeping,
  • some pink pyjamas and fluffy pink slippers for all the lolling about women do when they have a period,
  • a hot water bottle with a fluffy pink cover for those cramps
  • a dvd of some soppy romance

There is a sub genre of the aesthetic daily self care routine videos where "clean girl" influencers actually set out their Gilmore Girls style ideal period experience, involving journalling and scented candles round their Bathtub 🛁

I wonder how many of these get shoved the way of the aspiring Menstruaters who are claiming they also have period cravings. She gets absolutely flayed in the comments in the one above

Do you know what a uterus actually is?

Quite.

It's a womb. The bit you grow a baby in. Women have them, men do not. Transwomen - even those who go through surgery to lop off genitalia and repurpose it, do not have a uterus/womb. Or a cervix.

Some women have their womb and cervix removed. That;s called a hysterectomy. Having your womb removed does not remove your status as a woman.
