“Shut up, piggy”.

Trump told a female reporter this. How come this behaviour is accepted but if it was former president Obama, people would have lost their mind. Obama had to practically be ‘perfect’. When Obama wore a tan suit, it was such a huge deal.

Racism is a sick illness.

If we're talking standards, it's inarguable that Trump could orchestrate world peace and you'd still have plethora of people ad infinitum publicly mocking his skin tone, his hair, the way he speaks, his marriage, his children, his age, his weight. He's mocked to an unprecedented personal degree (by people who paradoxically consider themselves morally superior; people who think disagreeing with his politics gives them carte blanche to indulge their 'isms).

Completely agree with this. I don't even care about Trump getting mocked ceaselessly, but it's so odd to see people ignore this fact. And pretending that he has been given more respect than Obama is just daft.

Delphinium20 · 19/11/2025 00:06

I just want that man cancelled and have the rest of his days spent in some shitty nursing home and no one visits or bends the knee to him. I'm so fucking over him.

Lilactimes · 18/11/2025 23:43

I think the OP means the inherent racism towards Obama which meant he had to perform to a higher standard than your “average” President.

It’s probably tactical. Say something shocking for headlines to distract from the really harmful stuff.

This.

It's a series of increasingly head-in-hands dead cats from the WH.

My (depressing) belief is that we've seen the last free and fair presidential election in the US for a period of time. No country has an automatic right to a democracy, after all. Not even America.

Really worrying times.

I think the OP means the inherent racism towards Obama which meant he had to perform to a higher standard than your “average” President.

But he didn’t? I think Obama was probably one of the most respected and liked Presidents in recent times. He was always highly regarded by a lot of Americans and other world leaders.

Lilactimes · 18/11/2025 23:49

lifeonmars100 · 18/11/2025 22:28

not to mention that appalling incident where he mocked a disabled man. That would have ruined the career of any politician in this country.

I totally totally agree. How he got past those two comments is beyond me.

Thinking rationally here; he said "Quiet, piggy!". Not the same as saying "Shut up!". He's not a fan of Bloomberg which she is a reporter for. The outlet is probably a heavily-biased news outlet favoured by Democrats. He was probably thinking a lot worse but was tame in his words given he was on camera. 'Piggy' is hardly insulting and if you find that it is, then, well, no advice for you from me. It's all tabloid fodder designed to rile people up, and it's worked.

Just to be completely clear, there’s nothing “rational” about what you’ve said. Saying “quiet, Piggy” to a female journalist simply doing her job is absolutely unacceptable in any circumstances, especially from the president of the United States.

It shows his lack of respect, his misogyny, his belief that the normal rules don’t apply to him, and his refusal to be asked questions that challenge him or his authority in any way.

Justify it all you like, but anyone who defends Trump and this comment in particular is as racist, bigoted and thick as he is. Would you accept this comment from Obama, or Biden, or Starmer? No, I didn’t think so.

YourTruthorMine · 18/11/2025 23:21

What does this have to do with Obama - where's the sympathy towards the victim? Do women really matter that little to you?

The OP is just talking about the flak Obama got for wearing a tan suit and how he had to perform at a higher standard than others because he was black.

Glindaa · 18/11/2025 23:22

I am no Trump fan, but was he not just jokingly saying she’s being greedy and with her multiple questions and to give other reporters a chance to ask questions? I can imagine him saying it to a male or female, regardless of race .

Linzi2377 · 18/11/2025 23:42

I wonder why he despises the media 🤔

PaisleyGilmourStreet · 18/11/2025 23:40

We all think mean thoughts now and again. I'll admit that I actually have a grudging admiration for people who vocalise said thoughts.

No, he didn't say it jokingly.

TempestTost · 18/11/2025 23:25

YABU.

It was a dick ass thing to say, but people are not ok with it.

Livelovebehappy · 18/11/2025 23:25

User5306921 · 18/11/2025 22:35

Why aren't all the news channels just refusing to report anything he does. Why aren't people boycotting the papers and stations who support him. Voting with their feet. There are enough clips of ICE doing his bidding that would have destroyed anyone.

I honestly think if there was an election tomorrow, the Americans would re-elect him. Its like they can't think objectively or clearly at all.

Well unless the Democrats put up anyone other than Harris or Biden then I guess the Americans have little choice. Let’s not forget it was the Democrats who got Trump in by firstly sticking by someone not well or capable but manipulating the American public to think he was fine, followed by putting someone else forward when polls suggested she was hugely unpopular amongst voters. And now here we are…

Glindaa · 18/11/2025 23:22

FuzzyPuffling · 18/11/2025 20:11

I saw it as misogyny, not racism.

Also, it was " Quiet, piggy"

YABU for pretending that nobody is losing their minds over this and for trying to make it about Obama.

Notsurewhatisnormalanymore · 18/11/2025 23:11

I don’t think it’s racism although I don’t doubt that many people were towards Obama. I just think it’s simply that Trump seems untouchable, he’s disgusting, he lies, he’s a criminal and no one seems to be able to do a thing!

TeenLifeMum · 18/11/2025 23:10

He’s a convicted criminal who can do whatever the fuck he wants and still find supporters. It’s like a cult.

What is actually worse is that he is defending Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the White House this evening - defending him over the horrific murder of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

Trump doesn’t give a shit and why should he? He was re elected- people have allowed him to get away with it. Literally no consequences for him.

We aren’t. (I live in the US.) it is now a widely held belief that he used Elon Musk’s assistance to rig the election. He’s a miserable embarrassment, and every day we wake up and ask each other “is he dead yet?”

I must admit to thinking, when you look at the long history of assassinated presidents in the USA how come it's not happened?! I am only joking of course, not condoning murder even if Trump seems to.

You do have my sympathies, must be an abysmal and frightening time, wondering what else is to come. Friend of mine, the British photographer was shot in the leg by the ICE agents, he can't believe what is happening in the US and so quickly.

This!!
Who is accepting it?

Lots of people liked Obama, lots of people criticised him.

Thats politics. Politicians and world leaders are hated, despised, loved and worshipped in equal measure.

You’re mistaken, Trump has annihilated truth and accountability.
