Is Shabana Mahmood right or wrong to restrict asylum seeker's rights? In general?

How does he know their immigration status on sight? He wouldn’t be engaging in a bit of racial profiling now would he?

It tends to be obvious. There's so many in some areas there's even a name for them - freshies.

Most people in France, Poland, Greece etc didn't flee. Those that did were the elderly, sick, women, children. It wasn't fighting aged men.

Er, actually it was the fighting age men that fled.
You haven’t read your history have you.

They were not allowed to leave until this summer.

Would you be ok if they were turned into barracks for asylum purposes?

Sure. Then maybe there wouldn’t be so many rapes.

OrangesCinammonIvy · 16/11/2025 22:14

Thankfully she's also apparently looking at the definitions of asylum seekers.
We need new definitions for the new landscape we face.

We the UK should be able to chose who we give priority too rather than housing self selection of thousands of men foisted on us each week.

We do. There are quite a few MoD bases nearby.

We weren’t exactly invaded though were we? Things would have been very different if Nazis had rolled in like they did to Poland, Greece and France.

Interesting point. The contrast couldn't be more stark.

When Britain was at war the men of this country didn't run away to seek asylum. They stayed and fought. The women didn't flee either. Children were moved to the countryside but stayed in the UK.

I think you are a little out of touch of the men we have in the UK now...

I hope the UK is never at war then, or being gay becomes punishable by death, that you are totally oppressed because you were born a woman etc.

Yes, and with the UK economy shedding over 150 jobs per day, I’d say the issue isn’t as much benefits and welfare reform so much as job creation.

Having read today that 1.3 million foreign nationals are claiming UC as we face a brutal budget ,yes I think it's a good idea and I'm surprised we don't already implement all these reforms

The vast majority of these are EU nationals from before Brexit that have settled status and therefore have worked & paid NICs.

A crackdown on boat people isn’t going to touch this cost.

I think if you had 600 young men living in a hotel or barracks in your town or village you might notice them.

Yeah, the crowd of fat, unemployed and unwashed balding men shouting at the door while wearing a union jack t-shirt and drinking a can of stella is a right giveaway.

10% of the population of Hungary is foreign born compared to 16% of the UK.

Can you really spot the difference?

Exactly. All this hyperbole about less than 1% of immigrants- the asylum seekers arriving by boat. When we would not even notice them if it weren’t for the fact immigration is sky high on the legal, paid for a very expensive visa side of the coin.
