Hi all I don't know if I'm over reacting.. was in a discussion other day with my partner and it was getting abit heated as in tones where changing etc. We were talking about cosmetic procedures Iv lost a lot of weight and my boobs aren't what they was I said oh I'd love them done he responded with you don't need them etc etc
Topic changed slightly and he then come out with and you've made your face worse since having Botox and lip filler I asked what he ment and he said in my opinion you've made your face worse ... now it's hard to judge without seeing me I know but I had 0.5ml in lips and Botox on forehead an crows feet everyone says I look well. His comment has really hurt me and made me feel self conscious he said he was being a c*nt and sorry but now I feel how I feel and how longs he been thinking this. Sounds trivial written but was harsh an unnecessary comment that was very personal. Don't know if I'm over the top though

I'm not against a 'little help' and if it's something you want to do, that's your choice. Your husband has expressed his opinion (even if it wasn't great timing) and perhaps he's not said anything previously because, he knows it's your body therefore your choice. Lip fillers in my personal opinion are probably the one thing that can look obvious and over-the-top very quickly. I don't know many men, who would think it's a fabulous look. He clearly does find you attractive, and likes you as you are - most men would have encouraged you to have a breast enlargement, when you suggested it. He's not stopping you from having Botox or lip fillers, that's still very much your choice, but he's telling you he prefers you without it. I prefer my husband clean shaven, but if he decided to grown a beard, that's his choice, I wouldn't tell him he couldn't but I'd say I prefer him without it. I wouldn't find him unattractive with a beard, as he's still my husband, I'd just prefer him without it.

Did anybody ask for your opinion?

Yes. That’s what AIBU is for, asking for opinions. Everyone is sharing their opinion.

People do say ‘you look well’ when people have had cosmetic procedures. It’s non committal yet positive. If you don’t think they look good you don’t want to say anything too positive!

He is telling you that he thought you looked better before, I don’t think that’s shitty.

Agreed, it's the polite way to say I don't like it but I don't want to tell you that.

PollyBell · 18/11/2025 08:20

He is right, it doesn't look nice, if my husband deliberately changed his looks i would say the same to him

It is fake and looks fake same as faking baldness on men or men getting botox

InsanelySturdy · 18/11/2025 08:03

I think it would’ve been more cruel to say something about a procedure that you couldn’t reverse. As this filler and Botox are temporary, he probably felt ok about feeding back to you.

Do you think you’ll have them again?

InsanelySturdy · 18/11/2025 07:58

thecatneuterer · 15/11/2025 12:27

I think he is allowed an opinion. After all it's nothing intrinsic to you - it's something you have done, which you have the option to not do. Just as if he grew/shaved a beard or shaved his head/dyed his hair blond. Would you feel unable to express an opinion on that? He's not telling you to do anything different, he's not saying he no longer finds you attractive - he's just saying he's preferred you before. That doesn't mean you need to stop doing it if it makes you happy.

For what it's worth I'm guessing it's the lips. Filled lips "ruin" faces really easily and I'm often amazed that the people who do it appear not to agree

Yes. Lip filler makes everyone look worse and I won’t change my mind on that.

He didn’t really need to say that to you though OP, unless you asked for his opinion.

IamnotSethRogan · 18/11/2025 07:56

Obviously it's wrong that it came out in this way but I think actually it can be a bit unfair to partners when the person they're in a relationship with has cosmetic procedures done. You fall inlove with someone and they're face is often a part of this then all of a sudden they start changing it. Similarly, all these procedures do have the affect where a lot of people who have them look very similar to eachother.

It clearly hasn't changed how he feels about you but he is allowed to prefer how you naturally looked before you started with these procedures. Maybe the conversation about your breasts made him feel like he had to say something before it got out of hand.

Eenameenadeeka · 18/11/2025 07:48

Could have been worded more delicately - perhaps if he said "I thought you were even more beautiful naturally and I don't think you should have any more alterations to your body because you look great as you are".

My DP would never stop me doing what I wanted to my face but I’m completely certain he’d feel any of those things spoilt my looks because he likes the way I look now! And I’d feel the same about him. I usually do think anyone “tweaked” has spoilt how they look - I mean I’d never tell them because it’s their face and their choice, but I never think they look better.

Whole heartedly agree with this.

CJsGoldfish · 17/11/2025 21:49

everyone says I look well

'Everyone' really isn't going to say otherwise, are they? It's generally noticeable and the safest/nicest thing to say is that you 'look well'
Not saying you don't but don't put too much stock in 'everyone says'

Gair · 17/11/2025 21:47

Your partner probably loved the way you looked before botox and lip filler, and maybe prefers a more natural look. Is the "everyone" who comment positively other women who also have botox and fillers? That might skew opinions a bit. Also, most people would say something nice if only to be polite.

Tbh 0.5 ml of filler is noticeable, and unless you had very thin lips previously, it will give a bit of a pout. I think this look has become more normalised in recent years, but I still find it noticeable and sometimes jarring. I think that very few of those injecting are skilled enough to do it in such a way that is subtly enhancing, rather than distracting and artificial looking. However,, that's the look that many aim for, so whatever rocks their boat, but other's don't have to like it.

Did anybody ask for your opinion?

Opinions on here are implicit. Anyone starting a thread on here is consenting to opinions, no matter how agreeable they may or may not be.

So no, my opinion wasn't requested because it doesn't need to be.

Do you have any more silly questions?

Lastfroginthebox · 17/11/2025 21:29

It sounds like he loved you as you were and wasn't so keen on the change, although he still thinks you're lively. Why did you have it done?

Floundering66 · 17/11/2025 20:59

It’s a really tough one, and not nice if it’s made you feel self conscious. It sounds like it’s just his way of saying he prefers your natural looks but definitely came across wrong in an argument.

My personal opinion is that Botox can look great if done well but I always find lip filler noticeable and distracting when I’m talking to someone. My SIL gets 0.5ml and I think she looks so much better without! (Not that I would ever say this to her).

KellsBells7 · 17/11/2025 20:55

From the way the men I work with speak, I don’t think that many men like the look. As long as you’re happy with it then that’s what matters.

sunkissedandwarm · 17/11/2025 20:54

My impression is that most men prefer the natural look. Obviously you do what makes you happy, but he loves you just as you are naturally.

I'm not sure it's any different than if my DH shaved his facial hair off and asked my opinion and I told him I prefer him with the facial hair.

Doggielovecharlotte · 17/11/2025 20:16

Im sorry but Botox and fillers look completely unnatural and odd to me - I really don’t know what is attractive about having lips like Donald Duck - appreciate yours might not be like that

I don’t think people who have it can see it because they never see their face moving

see Demi Moore on the one show tonight…awful!

ELCismyspiritnana · 17/11/2025 20:12

Apologies for all the typos, the cat is lying on me lol

ELCismyspiritnana · 17/11/2025 20:11

Realistically, 0.5ml of filler will make very little difference on most people. The pillowy celwb lips are usually around 3ml. And a small amout of botox can loik very natural and give a refreshed loik depending on where you get it. But really its hard to tell on yourself, b3cause when your face is still it looks great, its when it moves it loik odd. I can tell my smile has changed since having filler, but i wanted to replace a sudden loss of volume, and felt very self concious of my lips, so im happy to have a slightly different smile but have proper lips again.

ellyeth · 17/11/2025 19:59

I think it would be a lot more hurtful if he was urging you to have a boob job, get your face sorted out, etc, etc. He obviously should not have voiced his opinion in such an undiplomatiuc way but, if you think about it without seeing it as a criticism, it might give you a great deal of comfort and confidence. He has said you are lovely as you are and so you shouldn't feel the need to have stuff injected into your body on a regular basis, to the point where you won't look like you any more.

Imho plastic surgery should be limited to two categories:

  • Disfigurement as a result of cancer, burns or injury
  • Physical abnormalities, ie deviated septum, inverted eyelashes

Nobody needs fuller lips or botox. Or BBLs. Or breast augmentations.

Your natural looks, what you were born with, are far more attractive than any highly-skilled plastic surgeon can ever achieve. Remember that.

Did anybody ask for your opinion?

TangoWhiskeyAlphaTango1 · 17/11/2025 19:17

You had botox and lip filler and it made you feel good about so ignore all the other pp who have a negative opinion about it. Your face, your life.

My guess is he was trying to dog at your insecurities during an argument and hit you where it hurt. Fuck him as long as you like how you look.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 17/11/2025 19:01

Sounds like you are being insecure and over reacting. Nobody else would tell you if you didn’t look good by the way. I don’t look at people with Botox and filler and think ‘oh they look good’ I think they look like they’ve had Botox and filler and looked better before, I’d never say anything other than they look lovely to them though. It’s an unnatural look even when done well so not everyone will like it and he’s allowed an opinion.

Parsleyforme · 17/11/2025 19:01

Just because he is allowed an opinion it doesn’t mean he can say whatever he wants. That was really unkind and I’d be sad knowing he thinks that. It doesn’t sound as if you’ve overdone the procedures so I assume he must look like a Greek god himself to be making these comments
