My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

@Purplebunnie try the Meyhew Rescue Centre. They definitely allow cats to live in homes where there is already another cat

Purplebunnie · 01/02/2026 12:42

I visited the local Cats Protection League website and Battersea website. Every single cat on Battersea is not allowed to live with another cat. Cats Protection had a couple who may be able to live with another cat. I have looked at other rescue centres and this pretty much seems to be the norm. So there is an extremely large proportion of homes in the UK who will not be allowed to take on a rescue.

I am disallowed on two counts, I have cats and I also have a DGC who visits on a regular basis and this is another criteria for not having a rescue - let alone if you don't have either of these you have a dog

Yes, despite that.
There are thousands of cats and kittens already in rescue centres.
It's highly irresponsible to deliberately let a cat have kittens. There are countless unwanted animals who need homes.
All these people who wanted a kitten from the OP should have got one from a rescue centre.

No, sorry, I disagree.It’s the people whose cats and kittens end up in the rescue homes who are the irresponsible ones. Anyone taking an animal from a rescue centre has a much higher chance of getting an animal with multiple mental and physical health problems than they will with these kittens. That is one of the reasons so many animals remain in rescue centres. Owning an animal is very expensive but to chance getting one with the risk of higher costs of veterinary visits, long term medication and expensive foods needs extremely careful thought.

I could argue a case for more rescue animals to be euthanised but this lovely thread is not the place for that discussion. I've had rescue cats in the past but would never consider one which had been feral or had a doubtful past.

These kittens were bred carefully for a specific purpose and all had homes before they were born. They have been closely monitored by a vet. They are far more likely to enjoy long, happy, and healthy lives.

Despite already having proper homes for the kittens ? There is no way these kittens were ever going to end up in a rescue shelter. They have been responsibly bred and cared for.

@Kittenwatch

Thanks so much for sharing your stories and pictures with us.
I have loved this thread. It popped up when I was having a sleepless night and I was able to witness the kitten births in real time!

Growlybear83 · 31/01/2026 20:52

I agree with @Davros - I think you’ve done a wonderful job with the kitties, but I’m sure you’ve enjoyed every minute! This has been one of the nicest threads I can remember on Mumsnet and I’ll miss it once they’ve all gone to thwir new homes.

Kittenwatch · 31/01/2026 20:51

@eyeses no - they are quite disparate

Well it's always irresponsible deliberately to let a cat have a litter.
Any look round a rescue would tell you that.

👋🏾 bye!

Well done, for someone who was totally irresponsible allowing your cat to have these kittens, you seem to have done OK 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I noticed the negative brigade have gone off to harass other people 😉

Are their new homes close enough that they might meet again outside?

All five eating happily together. We’re finally there with ‘Unc’ as up until now he liked to be fed separately.

what I won’t miss are the mega cat litter shipments 🤣

We get out litter on repeat from Zooplus and the DPD guy who delivers now knows to deliver to the garage door 🤣

Davros · 31/01/2026 09:10

It’s quite an undertaking to look after that many cats. I’ve only got one and the litter, food, toys, treats etc keep me busy

Davros · 30/01/2026 23:43

You’ve been amazing kit parents.

Thank you @Davros - I really appreciate that ❤️

@Davros not yet - hes with us until Feb 15th and im so happy!!

Nostada (as my son calls him for Not Tostada) is going Monday and then it’s just Scrump and Tostada.

Minnie has been given seal of approval by the vet who says she is in ‘excellent condition’ so again I am very pleased we gave our kits a good start ❤️

Has Scrump gone?

I’ve loved seeing the pics of Gubby especially - she has such similar markings to my cat who I adopted as a senior. It’s been so special to see what she might have looked like as a kitten. Thank you OP x

Kittenwatch · 27/01/2026 17:25

@1reason

Mama is good - a bit irritated when she can’t round them up for a feed which is hilarious, but healthy and chilled.

I caught Uncle Cat grooming one of the kits the other day too which was very sweet so it looks like we are on track for a harmonious 3-cat household 🤞🏽🤞🏽

Happy and secure toms make fantastic, really paws-on parents, even when there is no blood link at all. Fun times ahead 😽🐾

Kittenwatch · 27/01/2026 15:38

Gubby’s owners sent this pic - they have a mesh partition to keep her in her dedicated room at nighttime and she climbs it until she gets let out first thing 🤣

They say she’s like a whirlwind and settled really well - I’m so happy ❤️

Awww, this is a fab pic, a glimpse of things to come for Gubby's new family 😁 Thank you for sharing the kittens with us, I've so enjoyed the thread.

Kittenwatch · 27/01/2026 17:53

@grumpygrape

I’m really sorry to hear that.

One of the reasons I let our cat have kittens is that my aunt has terminal cancer. My mum died when I was in my teens so she’s more of a mum to me and is like a grandmother to my son - she was there when he was born and they are exceptionally close.

He is autistic and will struggle terribly with the loss when it comes so I just wanted a bright spot.

OP, I have a poorly cat, a poorly heating system and an 83 year old husband with Alzheimer’s. This thread has been so uplifting. 😍

We have to have some of those meshes on the windows so ours can’t get out of the house in the summer.Our girl is fearless, aka stupid, and wants to get in any stationary car or van, or play chicken on the road through our estate.
