Wow, so the I am alright Jack part of your personality extends too to sulking? Ok. Cheerio.

I literally don't understand this but ok. You seem to be determined to be a miserable and take it out on me and op.

I'm going to start my working day now so no time for virtue signallers, but if you have time on your hands, maybe volunteer at a shelter yourself? "Cheerio" you too

It was a little flippant, granted. But the same thing applies to far too many - and we only have her word on here that she will not let the cat have more litters and has homes, how much of it can be a reaction to the replies? No mention of getting the black father cat neutered either so he's probably out and about, adding to the problem.

I have seen and heard it time and time again, people say they will do the right thing and do not. Even with basics such as vaccinations (which I have personally paid for because people hard up), asking them to take the cat back for a booster, which I will pay for and never hear from them again. Too much effort to do right.

Forgive me if am cynical when it comes to this.

Ok, understood. Fair point. I wish you well in your endeavours.

TallulahBetty · 13/11/2025 10:33

Yay, more cats in the world when the shelters are already bursting at the seams

Please read people's posts correctly as you are putting words into both mine and OPs contexts. I never said cats were a commodity. I think you are vritue-signalling on one issue because you know someone who works in a shelter.

I won't engage with you but I'd love more kitty pics from @Kittenwatch

I love animals, I do not consider them a commodity and do quite a lot to help them where I can. That is the bottom line.

I love people and animals. Clothes might be a commodity, but the people who produce them, often in conditions far worse than that enjoyed by OP's cat, aren't. The waste that commodity produces contributes to environmental concerns which are harming every living thing on this planet.

I too do quite a lot to help animals. I've always had rescues myself and they've always been neutered/spayed. I'm still not pissing on OP's chips because her cat has had one litter of kittens she is rehoming to people who are not guaranteed to have gone to a shelter otherwise.

I'm not inventing scenarios for the kittens or the future of the OP's own cat because I have read her actual posts.

I was talking about how some animals are viewed as commodities ie the attitude some people have towards them but comparing them to nay other purchase like clothes, for example

Well the pp told me I was 'shameful' lol for not making cat overpopulation my personal issue to solve when i just wanted a cat. I replied to her asking if she was up for resolving all the problems of the world herself, and if her choices were always ethical, ehich I guess are not.

Happyjoe · 13/11/2025 10:27

ObelixtheGaul · 13/11/2025 10:15

Honestly, people don't read, do they. OP didn't mean she didn't have homes for them, she clearly stated she does. She meant it will be hard to let them go. Other people understood that perfectly well.

She also clearly stated her cat will only be having one litter. Try reading, instead of inventing scenarios.

Sallycanwait44 · 13/11/2025 10:27

Hopefully you keep them all and spay and neuter them all.

I have loads of rescue cats and have taken in emaciated sick cats that were pregnant. The rescues are all full to bursting, definitely don't need people breeding moggies while the streets are full of strays

Clothing industry is literally one of the worst and fastest growing polluters in the world. It's a bigger problem. You won't have a planet for you or the cats soon

Clothes are commodities. Pets are living, sentient beings. It's rather different.

I swear someone could come on here having discovered the cure for cancer and there would be people telling her she was bad and wrong and selfish, and probably did it the wrong way.

Love your kittens OP

Catpiece · 13/11/2025 10:22

What a lovely thread. Absolutely love the kittens. Why oh why have the righteous got to spoil every spark of joy. You can’t have anything nice can you without someone pissing all over it. I’m sure life never used to be like that. So many know-alls and people ready to put you straight nowadays. Enjoy the kitties until they’re rehomed ❤️

Allergictoironing · 13/11/2025 10:21

I have rescue cats. One was from a feral colony, started out as a couple of cats and there were 19 by the time the rescue got to them. When I lost the boy to CKD, I got another boy as a companion to the girl.

He had been with a family until he reached about 6 months from what we could gather, then he started to show adult male cat behaviours - no longer a cute pretty little kitten but a hormonal teen. So rather than neutering him they dumped him on the streets. Apparently this was quite common on the estate he came from, the rescues do a sweep a couple of times a year to get hold of the ones they can.

Unfortunately he was around 2 by the time he was trapped, so in that time he'd managed to contract FIV (cat aids basically) and has some serious permanent digestive issues - both of these mean his life is likely to be much shortened. He's about 5 now, and I'll be very lucky if he reaches 7-8 years old.

I know the OP has found homes for all the kittens, but that's 4 more kittens stuck in rescues now who now won't be offered the home that hers are going to.

Sadly many people anthropomorphise pets and don't understand that for cats having a litter isn't the same emotional thing it is for people having babies. They don't get the urge to have "children" as such, they have a hormonal drive which forces them to seek out sex and kittens are the result. The number they have in a litter, and the number of litters they can have, is due to the attrition rate of cats before they became domesticated. But they haven't evolved yet to adjust to being loved pets and homed. As a pp said, the longer female cats are left before spaying the higher the chances of them contracting various diseases like pyometra or mammary cancers.

Those of us who have seen the results of indiscriminate breeding tend to be quite passionate on the subject, which is why many have commented on this aspect.

But yes the kittens are very cute!

Lol, you have no idea of the responsibilities I have in the eorld or the work I do. You are just determined to make a happy thread a sanctimonious one.

I'm not going to trawl through shelter after shelter for a cat, hoping someone will not object to kids. I cannot take the weight of the world on me. I tried, then went private and have a lovely cat.

Are all your choices always ethical? Do you only buy from charity shops cause there are already enough clothes in the world to clothe thr next 6 generations of people?
Do you swerve Amazon amd Temu ro keep the high street from dying out? Do you donate all you disposable income to charities? Csuse you know you COULD take responsibility for the society around you.

Ok, that's a selfish attitude. We are all responsible and if all played our part, there wouldn't be such a problem.

But, you have the I am alright Jack, sod the rest attitude. Shameful.

And yes, the OP (despite initially admitting she had no idea how to rehome them all) may have found homes for these kittens. What about the next ones, the ones after that? Does she have an endless supply of friends who are willing to take her kittens on? Or will she be advertising them on gumtree for £40, leaving them vulnerable to the people who abuse, or the people who buy them from there as dog bait?

Be responsible. Play your part, same with everything in the world.

Tell me you haven't read all the OPs posts without telling me....🙄

OP meant she didn't know how she would let them go, which is a familiar feeling for those of us in her position. She said this at the same time as having said she had enough homes for 6!!!

Happyjoe · 13/11/2025 10:11

It is if you keep on doing it whilst attacking the OP personally as selfish, irresponsible and almost certainly the cause of unwanted kittens being born in the future

No it's not. Nice stretch there.... unwanted kittens are being born because people don't neuter for whatever reason they wish to try and justify it with, not because of what someone writes on MN.

Why do people have to be so foul on Mumsnet? This was a lovely thread by someone who wanted to share the joyful experience of her cat giving birth to five beautiful kitties but as usual, people pile on with unpleasant comments and derail the thread. Some people on this forum just argue for the sake of it and could start a row in a paper bag. It’s no wonder other forums have sections dedicated to taking the piss out of Mumsnet posters.

Other forums have sections dedicated to taking the piss out of Mumsnet users really? I bet that's hilarious 😂

DuchessofStaffordshire · 13/11/2025 10:11

tabbycatcuddles · 13/11/2025 09:51

I tried 3 and gave up - Battersea, CP and something else. Honestly, it's not mine or OPs problem to solve the animal welfare issues in the UK. OP has found nice homes for her kitties.

I think it's everyone's problem to be honest. Especially bearing in mind they are charitable organisations staffed by volunteers. My cats are spayed and neutered because I take animal welfare seriously. The amount of pets that are being abandoned at the moment is heartbreaking. I think we should all be doing our bit to make sure the problem doesn't get any worse. I too think the kittens are beautiful and I'm sure the op didn't intend on upsetting anyone. Are you thinking of having your girl spayed after this litter?

Quite.

Years ago on another forum I got told off for breeding my mare. She's well bred, with good conformation and I spent a long time finding the right stallion for her. But apparently I should have adopted one of the thousands of poorly bred cobs filling the horse rescues.🙄
