Ex won't remove his belongings

I have made several attempts to contact my ex partner to arrange collection for their belongings in my property. Some of these items include clothing, TVs and electrical equipment. He has blocked me and also my friend who contacted him, trying to prompt collection. This is just a way of controlling me and I'd really just like to get the stuff out of my home and move on. Where would I stand on taking the stuff to the skip and just getting rid of it all? I've tried to contact him multiple times but am still blocked.

I had a family member who left boxes for ages at our house and just refused to move them.Basically pretty arrogantly saying they will be there a bit longer without being clear how long and they were there taking up two rooms for more than a year. Legal advice was you cannot just dump them, you need to provide formal notice before you do so. We did this eventually and he collected his stuff in a right huff denouncing us as awful family… yeah right.

Thanks all. I've asked a friend to send him a new message saying it needs to be collected by next Friday or I'll be taking it to the skip. If no response, that's what I'll do. Many thanks.

You find a way to make sure one last message gets to him and you say,

”all of your things will be on my front door step on this date and this time. If you do not collect them they will be taken to the local tip.”

So you don’t know where he’s staying
and you don’t know the location of any family or friend of his?

how long were you with him?

Sugarfish · 12/11/2025 18:01

I’ve done this before. Gave a deadline which he didn’t meet so I binned everything and then blocked him.

igotyoubabex · 12/11/2025 17:59

@anyolddinosaur yes I've done that. He's blocked me and a friend who contacted him saying the same thing.

He can sue if you just bin it. So you need a record of having sent him a message saying I've given you many opportunities to collect your possessions so you now have 7 days to collect or I will sell anything I can to cover storage costs and bin the rest. After 7 days you can sell or bin it.

amber763 · 12/11/2025 17:49

Get it binned. Fuck him.

igotyoubabex · 12/11/2025 17:47

@Stormwhatnow ok thank you. He will want me to be trying to contact him. He'll get a kick out of it. I've sent multiple messages but remain blocked. I'll try off one other person's phone and then skip it. Thank you.

A friend of mine has this issue recently. She bagged it up, put it outside and messaged to tell him. It had been over a year and the guy had a lock up.
Just do that if you can contact him, maybe using someone else's phone. Otherwise yeah take it to the tip, you're not obliged to store it.

igotyoubabex · 12/11/2025 17:41

It's been a few weeks now. No I wasn't allowed to go to his families homes because I wasn't good enough basically, along with his ex girlfriend not liking it when I spoke to anyone.

How long has it been since he left?

Do you know where he is/any family members you could drop them at?
