Ex won't remove his belongings

igotyoubabex · 12/11/2025 17:36

I have made several attempts to contact my ex partner to arrange collection for their belongings in my property. Some of these items include clothing, TVs and electrical equipment. He has blocked me and also my friend who contacted him, trying to prompt collection. This is just a way of controlling me and I'd really just like to get the stuff out of my home and move on. Where would I stand on taking the stuff to the skip and just getting rid of it all? I've tried to contact him multiple times but am still blocked.

Of course in order to sue you he would have to list all the items and prove they are all his. Does he have receipts?
I'd be inclined to say:
"stuff? what stuff? I thought you took everything with you"

@Vaxtable he's self employed unfortunately! Literally the only thing he took was his tools and some underwear.

I reckon you could easily find out where he is working and drop his crap off for him. or aska friend to come and quote some work, when he trurns up give him his crap back..

LovesLabradors · 14/11/2025 12:52

Keep the messages or screenshots, OP. Get the friends who messaged him for you to forward the messages or screenshots to you.
Just imagine how free you will feel when it's gone!

  • Provide written notice with a clear deadline (14 to 28 days).
  • Record all correspondence and efforts.
  • Safely store items during the notice period.
  • After the deadline, dispose of or sell items, keeping records of value and proceeds.
  • Even if they ultimately complain, police basically don't care about this sort of case. If you did the above, you're covered.

Is he registered in companys house if so would his address show up there ?

RavenhairedRachel · 14/11/2025 10:08

My daughter had a similar problem when her ex partner moved out ( he lived with her in her house) the parting was amicable and she couldn't understand why numerous attempts asking him to shift his stuff including glof clubs and a bike worth £1000 were ignored. In the end she moved it all into the garden contacted his Grandma who he lived with and said if it wasn't gone by the end of the next day she would ring the local charity shop to collect it. Guess what it was gone by teatime 😄

NigellaWannabe1 · 13/11/2025 22:25

Just sell it and go on holiday with the money.

laylababe5 · 13/11/2025 21:37

This happened to me. I hired a man with a van to come and collect his things and drop them off at his place. I didn’t care about the expense. I needed his stuff out so I could move on. Might not be possible for you if you don’t know where he lives.

Passenger42 · 13/11/2025 18:59

If he took his tools, and is self employed tradesman get a bloke to ring him to book him for a job and have the stuff packed up on the mate’s doorstep with a note, or you answer the door to him when he rolls up to do the work! His face will be a picture, lol

Achewyhamster · 13/11/2025 12:17

I had this

The fool walked out, leaving his crap behind

I contacted him (in writing) saying he had until x date (about a month) to get his stuff or id take it all to the tip

He laughed and said I couldn't do that-i had to hang on to it until he got round to picking it up

It got to the date and he hadn't picked it up so I got my mother to take it to the tip

6 years (and a house move later) he tried to get in touch to say he 'was ready' to come and get it!

I informed him id got rid of it the day after the deadline

He was purple with rage and threatened to take me to court

I couldn't stop laughing and didnt hear another thing

I would have loved my day in court-it wasn't about his stuff,it was about control (and him laughing at the thought of me tripping over his stuff whenever I went into my bedroom)

MyHouseIsOnPrettyGirlAvenue · 13/11/2025 11:23

Can you just dump it outside his family home?

crumpet · 13/11/2025 11:20

Stop trying to contact him by phone. Send a registered letter saying that his belongings will be put outside at x time and on x date. If they are not collected by y date then they will be considered as not wanted by him and taken to the tip.

Justtoodamneasy · 13/11/2025 11:13

He clearly doesn’t give a stuff about whatever he’s abandoned and just wants to move onwards and upwards. He is obviously doing fine without this tv and whatever clothing he’s discarded so I wouldn’t think twice about giving the clothing to charity, and the TV to the dump or even my teenager for his room!

anyolddinosaur · 12/11/2025 17:55

He can sue if you just bin it. So you need a record of having sent him a message saying I've given you many opportunities to collect your possessions so you now have 7 days to collect or I will sell anything I can to cover storage costs and bin the rest. After 7 days you can sell or bin it.

Absolutely this ^

Ratafia · 13/11/2025 08:03

Send him a letter by post. He can't block that.

sammylady37 · 13/11/2025 07:38

Fiftyandme · 12/11/2025 18:57

Bag it up. Put it outside. Message him.

Read the thread.

igotyoubabex · 13/11/2025 07:26

@Morningreppy Perhaps read all of my posts on this thread that will give you a more informed insight. Also, as a woman myself, I would be getting the police involved if I was terrified of someone.

@Alloveragain44 He's blocked me off literally everything. Two other people have tried to contact him and he's blocked them both also. I won't be seeking out any further way to contact him. That's three different people and multiple messages. He has a deadline of next Friday and it will be getting skipped if not collected.

If this was a woman doing this to her ex.., we would assume she was terrified of him!

Quamarina · 12/11/2025 19:42

In a similar situation (it cost a lot less money 16 years ago I’d imagine) I paid for 1 month storage, used a friends phone to message him with the details of the storage place as I was being blocked then unblocked when he wanted to send abuse. Detailed the account number, that I’d set up a password for him to give them that was something he would know but my friend who’s phone I was using wouldn’t know (in case he wanted to lie & say she’s gone in & stolen his crappy ps2 games, weight bench & clothes). Stating that only one month had been paid by me but before that month was over it was his responsibility to collect the stuff, or get in touch with the storage people to pay to extend the lease. I didn’t really want to see him so it felt like £35 well spent.

Uberella · 12/11/2025 19:35

Sod taking it to a skip;what a pain;post on the fb free sites and let other people collect it.

Happyjoe · 12/11/2025 19:24

Do you know where he lives? Could send a letter, registered so it's signed for as proof. Then throw away if he doesn't show up. He sounds annoying... sorry OP.

houseofchaosandclothes · 12/11/2025 19:22

Legally, you’re an involuntary bailee. He sounds like he’d love you to do things ‘wrong’ so I’d Google that term, follow advice to the letter, and then don’t give him another thought

Maybe you could use his business contact details. Do they have a Facebook page or email address that you or a friend could message and tell him that he needs to pick up his stuff on x date or it will be at the tip. Give us all his details and we'll all message him.;)
