Would you class this as flirting? DH with shop assistant

Bex39 · 12/11/2025 17:07

DH is adamant I am being OTT and he was just being polite but I disagree. Please help settle this for me.

We were in a shop which sells chocolate and he was at the till with me next to him.

Shop assistant - those (the chocolates DH was buying) are my favourites

DH - I would eat so much chocolate if I worked here

SA - tell me about it, I can’t help myself with the samples

DH - you couldn’t tell by your figure

SA - you are being too kind

DH - seriously, you are in great ‘nick’

SA - laughs

It's sleazy regardless of his marital status.

As you can see from this thread, women don't appreciate random men commenting on their bodies!

Sassylovesbooks · 13/11/2025 19:41

I'm not sure he meant the comments as flirting. I think he was (in his mind!) giving the woman a compliment. He said this in front of you, it wasn't hidden or in a secret text message. Perhaps say to your husband that his comments in this day and age, may be not be taken as a compliment, but as a sleazy, creepy comment and he needs to be more careful what he says in future.

Sunshineismyfavourite · 13/11/2025 19:41

Eww very sleazy and inappropriate. My BIL (older than your DH) is like this and thinks he is a 'charmer with the ladies'. No - you're not. Just a dick and a sleaze.

@Bex39 Id feel like him to be honest knowing what others are saying about me online id feel crap.
It would make me wonder in silence is this the first time you have gone online to slag me off.

You can tell ive been through this lol.

Edited

Is that you, husband of OP? 😅 I hope so. And I hope he/you does feel like crap. It's an appropriate emotional response after behaving badly, also called "shame", "guilt", "regret". Behave better, and you'll feel better.

I’ve offered to show DH the replies on here, but apparently we’re all a bunch of miserable middle aged women and he couldn’t care less!

Perhaps because some of us middle aged women were once that young girl working in retail/services.

We know what it is like, having to hold your tongue when some old pervert makes a comment about your body, and worse, thinks they are doing you a favour by doing so, or risk losing your job. Like their oh so original witless prattling hasn't been heard a thousand times before.

The memories of having to weakly smile or brush off the 'compliments' of a slobbering old fool has made some of us rather protective of the younger girls coming up now.

Did he tell her that they put it smell in gas?

Pardon???

Tryingtolikeyou · 12/11/2025 21:28

Tbh it would have made my day i always get called fatty and bullied most of your life because of your size.
To have someone say something nice to you even if it is via a stranger its nice, even with his wife there id think fuck me your a lucky woman.

It seems nice to a person with low self esteem... No offence but you might not be the best gauge. Something seeming okay in comparison to bullying does not in fact make it ok.

AliceMaforethought · 13/11/2025 19:34

A bit personal but nothing too awful. I think calling it 'pervy' is a bit of a stretch, although I could understand it might be annoying. I think that some men seem to find the need to compliment women on their appearance, it is almost a kneejerk reaction with them.

He dismisses the thoughts of actual women? No way!! I'M SHOCKED

Just to be clear, you CHOSE this man? You married him on purpose?

Blink twice if you need rescuing.

Bex39 · 12/11/2025 18:04

He’s from a different era, stuck in his ways sadly no matter how hard I try to educate him.

oh give me a fucking break and stop making excuses! He is young enough to be my son and I would have trained that behaviour out of him before he left home.

notacooldad · 13/11/2025 19:28

What does he say to women when you’re not next to him
How would she know! 😆

weusedtobeapropercountry · 13/11/2025 19:27

drinkwaterx · 12/11/2025 19:10

Would i like it if some man said i had nice tits that fill out my jumper YES without a doubt yes.
And i laugh about it.
Because i dont find offence in everything.
If anyone wants to tell me i look good even though i look rough im gonna take it because life is shit with everyone taking offence.

Wow you are either a very desperate woman with zero self esteem absolutely BEGGING for a crumb of validation, or you're a clueless bloke 😂 Thank you for the belly laugh!

The first bit didn't bother me, it just seems like a clumsy compliment. But the "seriously, you are in great nick" was way over the line I think. He needs to learn to quit while he's ahead.

weusedtobeapropercountry · 13/11/2025 19:18

Holluschickie · 12/11/2025 18:51

Wow. Do you not see the difference between being friends with a woman- none of my male friends comment on my body btw- and perving on someone in her workplace?

I guarantee you Hons is too dull to spot that difference 😂

weusedtobeapropercountry · 13/11/2025 19:13

drinkwaterx · 12/11/2025 18:46

Tbh i dont see it as flirting i read it as nothing other than someone trying to be nice in a cheesey way.
But the man aint a cunt, perv almost cheating, dirty fucker, shameful, disgusting yuk or flirting.
Some on this thread need to un-clutch.
Not every man that says something to another woman as sex on his mind ffs.

Maybe next time he should say you can tell you eat chocolate your a fat bitch not a good look.
Then come back to MN and we will call him abusive.

We will soon have men handing out permission slips for us women to fill out before they say anything to us.

Edited

Or how about you don't comment on others people's bodies. Specifically people you don't know, especially when they're working and you're a customer. What about this is difficult for you 🧐

weusedtobeapropercountry · 13/11/2025 19:10

ThatChristmasMug · 12/11/2025 18:35

MN Bingo, all the haters coming in force to scream yuk, sleezy, revolting, disgusting. You cannot make that up 😂

Yes, I am female, before someone get all miffed and accuse me to have a penis or something😂

As long as you got picked, sis
