To wonder if people prefer the last government to this one?

The amount of people who are saying they hate this government and would vote reform.
So let me get this straight: many would rather vote for someone who was a member of the facist party at university than labour? Er...ok then. It seems to me that most people are fairly racist and blame others for the state of the economy; immigrants, the disabled, sinle parents, working class etc.

The last government gave us Brexit which was a nightmare and landed us in the shit economically.
At least the roads are getting repaired under labour which is a tangible use of my taxes....and yet people moan about paying more taxes.

Im not saying Labour are amazing...tjey are not but are they worse than the tories?

The roads aren't getting repaired where I am!

Any sensible person with a memory told people what would happen if there was a Labour government but people went ahead and voted them in

But even I didn’t realise just how bad they would get, I didn’t think it was possible after the last Labour Government but here we are! Rachel has to be the most useless Chancellor in history and it’s only going to get worse after November

I know people moan about the Tories but austerity was down to the Labour government leaving the country in a mess. Compounded by giving people a vote for Brexit and the pandemic which no one predicted.

But as was said at Brexit people voted them in, so those who did can’t moan now

Starmer has to go. Useless, incompetent and a liar. I actually did prefer the last Government OP, although they were useless as well.

People should start getting used to the idea of Reform because that's exactly where we're heading.

angelos02 · 12/11/2025 09:10

I have no idea who I'd vote for if there was an election tomorrow. Basically whoever stops taking money off modest earners to give to the feckless (not including disabled, but am including the mildy anxious and depressed as I am both of those and have never not worked). The welfare bill is out of control. It needs a complete overhaul.

JHound · 12/11/2025 09:05

I would not say “prefer”. I loathe the Tories.
I have no view on Labour either way. I would never vote Reform because the party and its supporters hate everything that I am. But nor would I wish to vote for Tory or Labour. Hopefully the next election I am in a “weigh the vote” neighbourhood and can vote as I wish.

I want a government that addresses inequality arising from class, wealth, sex, race and disability. I believe in the state ownership of essential services and industries and am happy to pay for things based on my means rather than my needs. Unfortunately it's not a popular view, even amongst those who would benefit from it the most, so the chances of a government being elected that I was happy with are slim to none. I will be using my vote tactically to keep Reform out.

Absolutely this. My disappointment with this government is that it's not socialist enough.

Sally2791 · 12/11/2025 06:05

Definitely not worse than the tories, people seem to think the massive problems can just be magically resolved overnight. Farage is promising this by encouraging racism and division. Labour is far from perfect and lacks conviction in some areas but they have inherited a shit show.

This.

Also, lots of road repairs going on in my area to the extent that the traffic is barely moving some of the time but it has to be done.

There are positive changes showing in the NHS, although the resident doctors who had a large pay deal when Labour came into government aren't helping or being honest about their pay.

Locally there are now NHS dentists so thats improving too.

So in 2 important areas they are better than the last government and better than 14 years of increasing the problems.

tfresh · 12/11/2025 08:26

Labour are acting like children who don't understand the word no. Labour seem to have totally forgotten what their party is even called.

ButtonMushrooms · 12/11/2025 08:26

I agree with pp - Starmer has his faults but he seems like a decent man who is doing his best. The same could NOT be said of Boris!

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 12/11/2025 08:25

Doesn't seem to make a difference no matter who's in 🤷‍♀️

The amount of hatred and contempt toward Starmer that I hear everywhere.. it’s universal. People genuinely loathe him. It is a new level of low. There is zero trust in him. Incredible really.

It is quite incredible, actually. I am not a fan of Starmer, but the level of hatred and vitriol towards him is completely disproportionate to anything that he has actually done or failed to do.

I'm not in the least surprised that he is unpopular, as so many mistakes have been made and he isn't exactly charismatic as a leader. But I am surprised by just how unpopular he is.

It is as if a dam has burst, and the frustrations that have been building up towards politicians for many years are suddenly all focused on Starmer and the current government. I guess people got their hopes up that things might change, and because they don't see that change yet (and don't have confidence that they are going to see it any time soon because of all of the missteps that have been made), all of their anger disappointment is directed towards the current government - because even though we know that many of the problems were inherited from the previous government, they were supposed to be the ones that were going to fix it.

It will be a disaster if people turn to extremes such as Reform in response to all of this, as the situation in the country will get much worse, and what are they going to do then.

I am clinging to the hope that the Labour Party will somehow get its act together and start to turn things around before the next election, so that people can have a bit of hope again. Being honest, it is quite hard to see that happening at the moment, though, as they don't actually appear to have a plan.

NikkiPotnick · 12/11/2025 08:22

The people who are trying to pretend the last government didn't give us Brexit don't seem to have understood that the referendum was non-binding. There was no automatic process by which we'd have left, and leaving required a government to act in accordance with the results. That was the 2019-24 administration. This isn't even a party political point, it's just what happened.

RobustPastry · 12/11/2025 08:17

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 12/11/2025 06:04

The current government is a shit show.

But the Tories were an even shittier show, and Reform would be a fucking sewer.

I've heard a lot of people saying that they might vote Reform because "things can't get any worse". Er, yes they can... and will if people are stupid enough to elect them.

I will be voting for the least worst option at the next election, and for whichever party is most likely to keep Reform out.

Edited

This absolutely nails it for me.

@malificent7 There was a referendum on whether the UK should leave the EU. The electorate decided, not the Tory government. Local roads are dealt with by local not centralised government. Its great you are engaging in politics, but you seem to lack understanding of how the system actually works at national, regional and local level.

It was the Tory government that decided to give us a referendum asking a very simple question about a complex matter that most of the electorate didn't understand. Hence loads of people googling "What is the EU" on the day after the vote.

And they gave us that referendum, not because they believed that it was any sort of democratic imperative to put the question to the country, but because they thought it would shut up the eurosceptics in their own party.

The Tory government at the time was far too complacent in assuming that the public wouldn't be so stupid as to vote for a colossal act of national self harm, and they failed to make a strong enough case for Remain. Theresa May then came in with her ridiculous and meaningless statement that "Brexit means Brexit", steering us towards an unnecessarily hard Brexit despite the closeness of the referendum vote. And then we had Boris with his "oven-ready" deal that turned out to be a complete botch job.

Yes, the people who voted for Brexit must accept some accountability for their choices - they made a terrible decision. And yes, the Labour Party must bear its share of the responsibility for having failed to make a stronger case in favour of Remain. Yes, Farage and his cronies must take a share of the blame for his anti-EU rhetoric and the politics that pushed the Tories towards their disastrous decision in the first place. But the Tories were ultimately accountable for what happened, and they must take the largest share of the blame. And many people will never forgive them.

Starzinsky · 12/11/2025 08:05

We had our roads repaired under tories so I can't give labour credit for that one.

I don't think labour understand economics and I know many people who are working less or avoiding work as the tax / benefit arrangements don't incentivise working, which is crazy.

The nhs is actually now in a worse state in term of disorganisation and productivity.

Covid and a few unexpected global problems left us I the shit too.
Labour gave us tax credits in the 90's allowing working families to work 16 hours and be topped up by hundreds of pounds of tax payer money for nothing. They created pension credit making those who hadn't paid in a couple of pounds worse off than those who paid in for 40/50 years.
All unaffordable.
UC had to have conditions attached to it to make people get a job and the child allowances capped at 2 children to stop people having kids for a payrise and an excuse not to work.
Labour have always been the party that came to power with a surplus - they would then spend it all and the tories would have to step in and sort the mess.
This time there was already no money and Labour can't work out what to do.
Labour are the party of the shirker.
I've never been better off under a Labour government and I earn no where near even the median wage for UK.
As a worker getting no state help I expect to be worse off again on Nov 26 - however the benefits brigade will be fine.
And if they are targeted no doubt they will scream unfair! and some out of touch back benchers will come along and save their payments.

Slothlydoesit · 12/11/2025 08:02

I voted for labour for some hope, particularly on NHS and for more fairness and a better life for those who work hard.

I massively regret it. It feels like a race to the bottom, constant negativity, tax rises and increasing government handouts to those who don’t contribute.

I feel like this labour govt prioritise those who do nothing and contribute nothing over those who do and are struggling to make a better life for themselves and their kids.

I like them They're sensible, addressing the big issues of the country, decent, not trying to grab headlines with unverified dramatic claims. They're pragmatic and looking at long term solutions.
They know what they're doing, work hard and don't spend their time pandering to the tabloids.

I hope we never see Reform up there because it will be an absolute sh*t show with all of them running like headless chickens, infighting, blaming everyone for their shortcomings, not getting anything done properly

The Tories ? Nah...

This one is fine. It feels like the country is run by sensible grown-ups . It hasn't been for years.

Are you actually serious? How on earth do you conclude basically anything that has happened in the last year or so 'sensible' or 'grown-up'?
I am naturally a Tory, although I didn't vote for them this time (nor Reform) but I do try to be fair and not think along party lines.
But I do think it is amazing that Labour supporters are still cutting them so much slack for disaster after disaster and defending policies and cock-ups in a way they never would if they were Tory policies or cock-ups.
Also that the fact that the last Government had to deal with the unprecedented pandemic is brushed aside.
'The Tories Would Be Worse' is repeated over and over again but that's a pretty low bar to support a Goverment.
It's OK Labour incessantly banging on about the problems they were left, but the question is, what are they doing to make it better?
Not much as far as I can see.
Grown-ups indeed.

Absolutely prefer this government to the last. We were a joke under the Tories, they mismanaged and they were thoroughly corrupt.

Thoroughly corrupt …. Remind me how many Labour government ministers have gone since election ? They are all as bad as each other

SlothMama14 · 12/11/2025 07:36

God no. Labour have been shit so far but the Tories were evil. So many of our current problems - need for tax rises, child poverty and teacher retainment crisis to name just a few - are the direct result of Tory policy.

AmusedMaker · 12/11/2025 07:32

Feels like this Labour government have been in power for about 20 years, can’t believe the election was just over a year ago.
I hope to god they don’t get in again. Extremely disappointed.
