To wonder if people prefer the last government to this one?

The amount of people who are saying they hate this government and would vote reform.
So let me get this straight: many would rather vote for someone who was a member of the facist party at university than labour? Er...ok then. It seems to me that most people are fairly racist and blame others for the state of the economy; immigrants, the disabled, sinle parents, working class etc.

The last government gave us Brexit which was a nightmare and landed us in the shit economically.
At least the roads are getting repaired under labour which is a tangible use of my taxes....and yet people moan about paying more taxes.

Im not saying Labour are amazing...tjey are not but are they worse than the tories?

The current government is a shit show.

But the Tories were an even shittier show, and Reform would be a fucking sewer.

I've heard a lot of people saying that they might vote Reform because "things can't get any worse". Er, yes they can... and will if people are stupid enough to elect them.

I will be voting for the least worst option at the next election, and for whichever party is most likely to keep Reform out.

Edited

All of this

unsync · 12/11/2025 13:14

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack Those people should have done their research before obviously, or maybe just refrained from voting. It was blindingly obvious what the outcome of leaving the EU would be, regardless of what the politicians said.

Having worked in a polling station on referendum day, the level of ignorance was jaw dropping. A lot of people turned out for the first time to vote and quite openly declared this and that they had very little intention of voting ever again. If this is something repeated across the country, it's hardly surprising the country is in a mess. Ignorance and lack of engagement is not a great combination in the electorate.

I've loathed and despised all governments since the day that self-serving Sir Tony fucking Bliar was elected: just as narcissistic as Boris Johnson, but cleverer at hiding it, and appearing to be trustworthy.

At the moment, Labour feels much closer to "grown ups in charge" than Saint Boris and billionaire "just hang in there while your bills are through the roof" Sunak. Labour are doing good stuff like employment rights, but are not telling us about it. They inherited Saint Boris's clown show. They don't have the Tory-owned media on their side. So right now, I'd much rather it was Labour, than the Conservatives or Reform. If we get Reform, that means Trump is on this side of the Atlantic for good (Farage is basically Trump), and we are finished.

I don't like Labour particularly, they're as much snouts in the trough as the Conservatives, and I have not forgotten that they cheered on the extremely damaging lockdowns all the way, and had NOTHING to say about the damage lockdowns were causing: basically, they completely failed to be the opposition while Saint Boris and his merry men were destroying children, their education, and their futures. They had plenty to say about Partygate, but nothing to say about the absurdity that brought about Partygate in the first place.

As for Nigel Farage: he is the Devil himself. "All this can be yours, if you will kneel down and vote for me."

Same old labour nonsense - it is not my fault

If they want to save money they could

Stop all foreign aid
Not have given 50M to Indian farmers
Not have given 50M to the guy who now runs Syria the ex ISIS commander
Not increase child allowance for more than 2 kids
Scrap all the people employed in diversity training
Stop benefits for illegal immigrants
Do not allow companies to pay less NI for employees from India than British people
Stop benefits for people who are able to work but do not wish to

None of that is rocket science to anyone other than Labour

What a horrible world that would be.

Lindy2 · 12/11/2025 13:09

I didn't vote for this Government and I'm even more disappointed in them than I expected to be.

I'd like the Conservatives to get their house in order as get a strong, ethical leader in place.

JoyintheMorning · 12/11/2025 13:05

@kirinm Boris had never been a Euro MP, Nigel and others knew the system and were much more committed and were aware of details but he did not meet them. Remember he wrote two articles for The Telegraph I think. One favouring Leave to other favouring Remain. He asked his wife which he should send. She chose.
Not the act of a committed man was it?

I don't know if I prefer the last government, but I do wish we could turn back the clock.

The UK is now in such dire straits economically (due to mismanagement by previous governments), it's concerning what measures the current government might implement at the drop of a hat to claw back some funds.

It feels pretty grim as a working person, with our apparently "broad shoulders" that can prop up the entire nation (and I'm sure feels grim for other groups too).

I wonder if Labour have considered bringing in a tax on the air we breathe....

No he wasn't.

He was a brazen opportunist who hitched himself to the Leave campaign because he thought - correctly as it turned out - it would give him the better chance of leading the Tory party. He actually wrote two mirror image op-ed articles, one for remain and one for leave, before he made his decision.

His own personal beliefs were secondary to what the choice would do for his career.

This.

BBB - bring boris back!

Hell no

QueenClinomania · 12/11/2025 12:07

Nobody is going to like any government because what the population (generally speaking) wants is impossible.

Nhs repaired, schools great, local services fabulous, wages high, prices low, taxes low. Genuine change without sacrifice. A vague "other people" paying / being targeted. A magic wand.

And no party is willing to do what it would actually take to turn things around because they'd be completely unelectable.

So it's just plaster on top of plaster until its so beyond fixing it cant be band-aided any more.

I’ve never voted Tory in my life, but I might in the next election. Sunak and Badenoch are much better than Keir imo. Labour don’t have anybody who can lead.

Labour are wasting their time trying to get the benefits street vote by lifting the 2 child cap. These people will most likely vote reform. All they are doing is further pissing off people who are going to get their taxes hiked. I don’t think they have a hope in hell of winning another election.

I don't think Labour can return to power in several decades after this term.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 12/11/2025 12:04

HELL. NO.

Other than Trump, just about anything is better than the last shower we had. The chaos. Lack of organisation. Back stabbing. Cheating. Stealing.

They weren't a government. They were a bunch of legalised con artists. Many of whom were the mega wealthy, landed gentry, stealing from state coffers and the poor.

CheekyChickenFucker · 12/11/2025 12:02

I prefer them to the Tories. Tories were awful and morally bankrupt, but I'm not particularly happy with Labour either, but I think any party would struggle to make things work right now. They've been handed a global economy that is built on gambling and making sure Elites come out on top. No party can win against that. The system needs to collapse first unfortunately.

I think Labour are swimming against a torrent, but they aren't brave enough to try something new either. The idea of Reform is fucking scary. They are spectacularly incompetent (yes I know Labour and Tories are not great either), but they just all seem very vicious, under qualified and lazy. Like the most unprofessional and incompetent managers you've encountered in your working life rolled into a political party.

Are you from the UK? Your misspelling of Labour twice is a bit odd.

apology, autocorrect for some reasons, I'll watch it.

Anyway, back to US debt. This chart partially demonstrates it:
The Magnificent 7 Dwarfs Entire Countries’ Market Caps 📈 - Voronoi

USD is still a reserve currency.

They can afford it, we can't.

RainbowBagels · 12/11/2025 12:00

I would take the Sunak version of the last government over thos one absolutely. He was smart and quietly committed, but didn't have the showmanship to maintain leadership. Given a year or 2 longer I think he could have set us on a much more stable economic footing.
I think it c was less about him and more that the Tories had shown themselves to be so incompetent and shit, especially with their revolving doors of leaders it was too late. If the Tory 80 year old Blue rinse brigade had elected him earlier they may not have lost

I raised 3 children with send under the tories and the decline in education and healthcare services, over the years, was clear and shocking.

I was pleased when Labour won but, so far, have been utterly underwhelmed and disappointed!

They are less shit than the tories but still shit.

Same. I had high hopes with change in government, but they have actually been worse, which is utterly depressing

Both the complex needs school I work in, and the ARP attached to my daughters mainstream school are considerably worse off than 2 years ago under the Tories. EHCP wait times are up, therapy wait lists are longer due to funding cuts (in this is the first time in 15 years that my paediatric physio teams budget has been cut). HNBF to schools has been cut, the NI increase has further stretched school budgets. My oldest had 2 class TA's to support those in their class with sub ehcp needs when she was in infants 3 years ago. My youngest now in infants has no class TA's, all TA's are now in ARP only to keep those children safe - due to ehcp delays the school is not getting funding to support their needs so that has to come out of mainstream budget, whereas it was previously self funding. They threatened to make it harder to claim PIP but only backed down after a huge revolt.

100%
Voted Labour
Always have
Now will never ever vote for them again

You won’t be alone in that.

I agree with pp on Sunak who had a better understanding of the economy and what to do.

Covid was obviously unprecedented, I don't know how, with the knowledge they had at the time, it could have been managed better. Of course it's very easy to look back now and think it could have been done differently, hindsight is 20:20. Furlough was an economic disaster, but what was the alternative, let millions loose their homes?

Brexit was democracy in action. Yes it was a disaster, and so is this current government - we as the public voted for both. As they say - be careful what you wish for, it might come true!

kirinm · 12/11/2025 11:37

JoyintheMorning · 12/11/2025 10:56

Nobody gave us Brexit, we had to campaign and work for a Referendum. In a free vote the British chose to leave. Some voted leave because The EU was getting more and more controlling and LESS democratic. We did not know what the Bureaucrats would control next.
That was one event.
The second event was how the politicians reacted and negotiated. Teresa May tried to over-ride the decision and we were faced with "Brexit In Name Only". Remember?
Boris turned out to be useless, worse than useless in the negotiations. He refused to consult or involve any Leave Euro MPs. The people who knew how it worked. .

Boris was a leaver ffs!

Labor are CONSIDERABLY worse than last Tory. Rishi knew what he was talking about and warned about Labor.

Apart from unionised public sector and benefits claimants I don't know anyone who's situation improved thanks to this shit show of government, but it became much worse for millions of people and more is yet to come.

Yes so many groups now hit by Labour, there’s not many left for them.

Snailslide · 12/11/2025 11:31

I think Rishi and Keir both have good intentions for the country. They’re trying to make things better. This is a massive improvement on Liz Truss and Boris Johnson who were out for themselves and and their shadowy backers only..
